Yes it's February. We all know that.
Tell Dangerfield.
Tell Rutten.

They seem to think you have to try in February.

February is for getting a few miles into your payers and testing your game plan, win or lose.

Based on tonight, I'd say we still haven't worked out the game plan. The bombing it long to a two on one or 4 on two seems to be the norm. as it was last year.

memo to MM. Waite is not Cloke. More's the pity.

The defensive pressure was down on last week, which is a worry seeing as they had an extra week under their belts.

Last week we gave up six or seven goals in the last quarter and again tonight. That's not a skill error. It's a fitness thing.

Buckley, Ellard, Wood, Daisy early were a few of the plusses. Otherwise nothing to get excited about other than Menzell's kicking for goal.

Kruzer was a liability tonight but he's had a long layoff so that's nothing to worry about just yet. He has to hold his marks or I wonder how he will be used. He likes first ruck but Warnock can't play anywhere else and I don't think Kreuzer can either.

Not only do we have no tall KPP forwards, we don't have any genuine forward line players.

Other problem is pace. We lack it. Especially rebounding off half back. The pace we do have are not quality kicks - Walker, Simpson and Yarran

Practice game but cant help but read into things.

In terms of players being rusty, not going hard, taking risks yeah I can handle that but it's hard not to read into there being Zero fwd structure. Same old bomb and hope fwd of centre that we've persisted with post Fev.
How can we have only have one decent KPF on our list (that happens to be our best KPD)???? Persisting with Kreuzer again, tried that and failed 3yrs running. Only difference is we don't have Eddie this year feeding off the crumbs and winning 4 or so games this season.

If this preseason is evidence of Waites year, delist him now. Sooked and moaned for frees all night. Well beaten by two kids in two weeks. Maybe worth playing him in defence all year

Just so that everyone knows already......I ducked for cover ten minutes ago.

Believe me I know It's a practice game...yadda, yadda...and I hate bagging players....fully understand....but...... :garthp:

Mathew Kreuzer / Trent Cotchin

Bootsma / Anyone

Recruiting / Contracts / Player Payments / Board

We're not even in the same ball park as the top half dozen clubs on so many levels.........argue with that!

Quiet day in the membership department tomorrow.

Don't get cross cos I ducked and moved on to analize our cricket team. :donk:

No one played as badly for us as Doolan did last night, with far more at stake

Actually we do have pace to sling out out of the backline as you call it..
Yarran
Walker
Touhy
Armfield
Buckley
Simpson (not lightning quick but knows how to get into space)

But that is not how we play. We play the long kick down the line. Other teams run it out of the backline because it is a good way to get through the zone. We kick it long down the line, which is another way to expose the zone but only if we maintain possession. It has been MMs staple plan for years. He hasn't changed the basics of it and never will so don't expect to see any of the above streaming through the corridor in waves any time soon.

BOG or second BOG last week.
Tall, mobile, fast, good kick and was good enough to get a game at Sydney is why.

Result doesn't matter but the issue is the ball movement out of defence and into the forward line. Still kicking long down the line and inside 50. It is predictable to Carlton players but it's also predictable to the opposition.

So we can throw a few players off it?

The clear difference IMHO is that the Adelaide players are bigger and stronger than ours and are more skillful....

Daisy and Cripps look like genuine quality additions to our list.

Agree... to an extent... which is why I never pay to watch a practice game. May go next week if members still get in free, to see the old ground more than anything.

Brush off cobwebs, see the new guys, no injuries... all's good for round 1

BUT I do find our (still) lack of a forward structure a little disturbing tbh

The only player I am worried about is Bootsma. I just don't see a fit for him.
