Delisting Jonno could have made room to give me a pay rise. Too late now though. YOu'll pay, oh you'll allllll pay.

Johnson had poor disposals, no forward pressure or back pressure but i still feel he could of added depth. He plays in the hardest position and players like Bentick or Smith might not be able to handle it all season.

I woulda kept him before Prendergast and Bannister aswell. He was hard done by but i would rather depend to look to future Carlton players than a recycled player

But thats the thing - we need to know if either of them can handle it, or not, and sooner, rather than later. Both are rookies, left over and looked over by every club a number ofo times. They are both highly incentivised to make a go of it.

We all love AB now, Risgin Star and all that, but the truth is that AB and Smith are coming from behind a lot of other players. We need to know if they're good enough ASAP so we don't waste development time.

Johnson tried, played - what 60-70 games? but was found wanting in some key areas:

* defence
* disposal
* very short (not a marker)

I don't know how a guy can play AFL without at least 2 of these.

Nice try Johnson, and thanks very much for helping, but that's where it ends.

I think the delisting of Johnson was a case of him coming out of contract at a time when we have too many similar but younger players in AB, Blackwell and Smith, and who the match committee obviously feel are better options and who need to be developed.

He could get the ball off the contest, but his lack of height meant that he was immediately tackled; he couldn't get his arms free to dish off. Bad disposal also cost him - think back to the Port game where he had 3 very gettable shots and missed all three. Bentick has much better disposal and has the height/strength to dish off while being tackled

Johnson was just one of the Hawthorn discards from their team of athletes from a few seasons back. Bokes that can run to the ball, even get it sometimes and then..........We need footballers not track stars

Your thoughts?

Prendergast is still around because he has height...one thing we lack severly...
Banister will adopt a new role in 2006... a 3rd or 4th defender providing pace through half back..

if that doesnt work..so long Jordan...

Glad he's been delisted. Johnson was one of a group of about 6-8 Carlton players who would not make it onto any other teams list.
The sooner we get rid of the 6-8 of them, the closer we'll be to being a force again.

I don't care if Johnson was a reasonable in & under player, the fact was, he couldn't kick. Players who cannot kick, do not belong in the AFL anymore. Either they waste opportunites delivering into the forward line or they turn it over across the middle that result in opposition goals.

I'm tipping Fevola won't be too upset that we've delisted another guy who cannot kick. OUT: Johnson IN: Murphy - he's wrapped I'm certain!

sorry pj, sorry brett ...
had to go...
couldn't dispose of the ball, it would just lead to another 50/50 contest 30 metres forward, and that's if it didn't go to the opposition, and if he didn't get tackled first, in which case brett was too light...

was a trier, will do well at the lower levels...i wish him luck

No doubt Bannister will be doing that in the VFL.

Where he belongs!!!

I think all of these types of players are on the list until there is someone from the ranks of our youth ready to come in and take their place. Otherwise a bloke like Brett would be holding a youngster out of the team.

I think Bentick and Carazzo will be able to fulfil these roles for us as well as Johnson has.

Dennis Commetti ranked Brett Johnson as the perfect interchange player, maybe someone will take a chance on him on the draft as i expect he will nominate. He does get the ball a lot but does turn it over also with poor skills sometimes but i do think we might be in trouble next year now we lost him and put Camporeale and Lappin there and Morrell, even thou he wasn't great it a bit of a worry especially if Bentick,Simpson struggle next year and if Kouta or Stevens gets injured we could get smashed like never before as i dont expect Murphy and Blackwell to be stars in their first year, leaving Walker and Scotland doing the rest in the midfield.

Camporeale Lappin and Johnson get the ball alot it trouble if we dont get the ball sure these guys waste it at times at least 50% they will do something with it. It will be embarrasing if we see score like 28 goals kicked from one side to us like 5 goals because we can't get out in the middle to our forward line.

I've never been a fan of Johnson's purely for the fact that he did waste the ball so often.
You knew he was going to get the ball, but every time he did it was like you had to look around to see which opposition player was not being picked up forward of the centreline.

You almost expected him to give the ball up everytime because it became so regular.

He did give 100%, but just wasn't quite there with his kicking.

Have heard that Johnno's meeting with Pagan went along the lines of:
DP- I have given you every possible chance. Its time to go.
BJ- OK(accepting his fate).

BJ leaving OO and his phone goes not once but twice. 1st was Libba and 2nd was Mitchell both saying that DP has done this totally by himself and that when the coaching panel discussed the list Johnno was to be retained for another year.

Whether they were covering their arses or not hoping to make themselves as good cop I don't know. I hope this is the case and not that we have a football dept that can't agree with each other now with a whole season of disunity to look forward to.
