A better than expected 1st hit out for mine. Bell BOG for us no doubt. Everett was great in the 1st half and will be a real bonus this year! Cripps is a genuine footballer, will be awesome no doubt!!
Gibbs was good, Watson tried hard and did well, Woods will be handy, Menzel in a league of his own, Buckley tried hard and was rewarded a few times, Warnock was ok, Toohey was rock solid, McInnes was consistent again and Yazz was just playing with them....

Lucas is not AFL standard, why we wasted a 1st round pick on him I will never know. He will be delisted at year’s end as nobody will trade for him.

based on today, considerations as real contenders for a spot rd 1 (ie that weren't regulars last year)
Bell - very good. Better option than Robbo
Menzel - polish
Everitt - assured and finishes well
Watson - held his own and most importantly wasn't brushed aside during the one on ones (was our leader down back it seemed)

on the fringe - buckley was better than lucas

Was a good performance by many of our younger players. Building our depth nicely.

Is Walker ok? Got taken off.

Can anyone answer this? Any injury to Tex is the only thing that could take the gloss of a pleasing hit out for mid-Feb.

Walker out for a few months could see us drop from 9th to 12th.

I hate to see any of our players injured. Especially in February.

Yes, Bell BOG.

There was a tackle he laid in the 2nd quarter where the Norf player for a moment seemed to try to slip down for an around the neck and Bell squeezed him tighter and arrested any chance of a free. There's technique and there's brute strength, but Bell might be learning some presence of mind. It's great watching him throw aside the opposition - I hope he has a greater level of fitness and overall awareness this season and can be a regular contributor.

Also, I was more than happy with Robbo's game. His second efforts got us onto the scoreboard a few times. He won't ever be a genius on the field, but hopefully he'll find a little more polish with each game he runs out.

Everitt looked very comfortable out there, as some seemed to predict - hopefully he can show it under the pressure of a real game.

And very happy and relieved that Jimmy Jr got a hold of that annoying shit Thomas before he could sink us at the end.

As for the commentary...actually better than a lot of last year's efforts on Foxtel, despite the Norf membership drive / love-in / barracking...that's just because the commentary is usually so friggin' woeful...today was just slightly less shit >:[

The man love for Dal Santo by the Fox Footy guys every time he went near the ball was a joke.

Anyway, plenty to like from the new kids and some fringe players.
And the best thing was, all this without Jamo, Kreuz, Simmo, Carrots, Scotto, Jeffy, Judd and Daisy.

Lost by 257 points. Petrie kicked 14 on Rowe.

Massive positives with Buckley, Watson, Bell, Menzel , Wood and Everitt.

Given the players we had out, North should be very worried. They looked almost at full strength to me and only got close late. Joel Tippett looks like he'll make the grade.

Pros:

Thought Everitt was our best, which is a good sign. His size, athleticism and especially his kicking skills are going to a real bonus for us.
Robbo and Bell were my next best.
Blueboy23 spoke about the plan for increased flexibility. Certainly saw signs of it today.
Early season, but tackling was best I've seen in a while. And looks like we might benefit from having a decent midfield coach this year.
Warnock dominant in the ruck again.
Really pleased with the poise and willingness to tackle from Menzel.
Thought McInnes was really good.
Very happy with the performance and role given to Buckley.
Watson was pretty good.
Bootsma had an encouraging second half. He's looked bereft of confidence for a while, so hopefully he's past that. Same with Casboult. Played pretty well.
Yarran looked good off half back, after quarter time.

Explain "of late" in the context of the first pre-season game of the year?

Of late as in his entire season last year and nothing tonight.

Tou have to watch it even if it's just to see who is who. I find it hard to recogize a few players because of their new haircuts. Gibbs? I had no idea who it was until I saw his #4.

He makes them feel that they are hung like donkeys, is it any wonder that they love him.
