It's kind of like the 1999 Preliminary Final - you have to think of that in a decades isolation.

i think were losing the plot that little bit more ....

I agree with Synbad. Enough of mediocrity.
Who cares if we beat Richmond, Essendon* or even StKilda in a minor final.
We need to be the team everyone is striving to beat. The team they focus fully on beating before the season starts. The team they change game plans and structures to gain the advantage.
Currently we are not even close. That's what I miss and want back.

I completely understand and agree with Synbad's logic, but it's still nice to stop and smell the Punt Road roses from time to time.

I can't press the delete button either.

Don't agree either - aside from the big ones - one of the most exciting finals wins we have had against all odds - having said that we were very poor against Sydney and that loss should motivate them to do much better - still trying to work out who was supposedly on spike mcveighs brother :donk:

After having a bad year but making the finals for obvious reasons I also see that win as an against the odds great win.
Look at Richmonds season against ours and you won't get sucked into the hot air some consistently exhale.

Sydney on the other hand was a bad lose especially after their early injuries that we didn't take advantage of and as you mentioned about who was on MR 20 possessions in one quarter.
Unfortunately for us their coaching staff and players had a better game plan and made the appropriate changes to suit the situation while our waited around for someone else to take the responsibility or just didn’t have the awareness required for the response.

Fantastic stuff. Mind you, I have a heart attack every time I see Jeffreys running goal. 1 bounce in about 45 metres.
Why would you?
Just have a bounce every 10 metres and dont take the risk! :donk:

I'm pretty sure the umpire didn't have time to count his steps or measure how far he'd run.

The 50m line and 10m goal square should offer a bit of guide you'd think.

Yes but there was a down field free kick halfway through that dash that restarted the count.

Still ran too far. Jetta at Sydney does it too....and Buddy.

You realise your excitement about beating the only team in the competition that is well and truly our bitch?
Means nothing unless was followed up the successive week.
We lack club highlights recently don't we?
Nothing this illustrates more than the excitement enthusiasm we share collectively as this particular game
Months later we rave about it.
It's a commentary in itself on who we have become.
We rolled some football pygmies

Hawthorn don't exactly crack open the champagne after giving us their regular towelling.

if they had a come from behind win in an elimination final against us...they wouldnt have a wank fest like we do...

its a representation on where the two clubs and supporters are IMO

if we followed that game up by something not pathetic like the sydney game .. the richmond game would be palatable

but we didnt. and its not!!!.. not to me!!!..

Synbad I know it was only the Tigers I was there - still a great win against an old traditional rival in front of 95 000 in a do or die final - yes it all came apart the next week and I saw the match live against Sydney and this game was symptomatic of our poorer performances over the season -I said yesterday it was a dishonourable loss to Sydney and we shouldn't forget it - still doesn't mean the win against Richmond wasn't good given context where Richmond won about 4 more games for the season - were roaring favourite -we got in because Essendon* WERE DISQUALIFIED and We had beaten the Tigers in similar fashion a couple of weeks before and it was unlikely that we would repeat the dose in the final but WE DID - our best ball winner mclean pulled out in the warm up - we came from the dead to beat port the week before and it was unlikely that we would do it again but WE DID

Sorry cant say it wasn't a great win -shocking the next week an embarrassing performance and I want my money back for funding 4 carlton supporters to go to the game take the plane to and from Sydney and the accommodation costs -overall a disappointing season last season in terms of win loss ratio and we should strive for better this year hopefully on the back of motivation of a very poor last game in an important final

If nothing else, the 2013 elimination final will be remembered by me as the most ENJOYABLE game I have experienced since the 99 prelim - regardless of what happened before or after.

We all know where the club is at... no one is foolish enough to rate us based on an elimination final win against Richmond

Enjoying one game in isolation doesn't mean to rate an entire season, or decade, or future etc... just enjoy the win for what it was... a come from behind win in a final... against a rival club... they don't come any better than that

I went along that day with two of the cockiest tiger fans who were discussing their Sydney trip before the game
Watching the replay, I forgot about the trash talking the tiggies were dishing out that day... and how they went quiet in the last

But the time has come and I've finally pressed the delete button... bring on 2014

2 bounces, one at about 46m and one at about 25m.

if you can't enjoy a win without analysing everything around it what's the point in being a supporter?

It's these games that bring us through the gates.

We'll remember that win until we die.

Even better, so will tiger supporters

This would be fitting.....THIS WOULD BE FITTING......!!!!!

Tell me that doesn't make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up when you hear Dennis's commentary, after you'd witnessed the goal live at the game.

Life is too short not to seize pleasure from the truly special moments
