That depends on the industry. Whilst stricter demarcation of Board function from executive operation (regarding functional oversight/accountability) is what traditionally exists in non-for-profit orgs, including sports organisations where profit is not the main objective, that doesn't mean that its the only or most viable structure in the current AFL environment. The AFL has openly stated it is not the competitions' banker. Our current structure is more corporate than most other clubs, however provided it comprises a satisfactory mix of expertise and representation of all major stakeholders (including members), there's no reason why it cant deliver successful outcomes above and beyond other clubs.
