I appreciate that's your opinion but no substance as to why.

Maclure would be a better option than Madden. Has more conviction and understands what a club needs to succeed.

Little commercial know-how / Reliance on competent people around him and when that fails, so does he.

That said - he's the ideal man for the Mathieson/Pratt Carlton oligarch. But I can't see Justin taking it on regardless. Surely he's had enough of thankless tasks?

Going by his book years ago, was never really a team player off the field, didn't like the whole commitment thing. He liked to play, and go home . Though was funny around the club, only when it suited.

Anyway, that's how I remembered the book.

I think he's more the sort of bloke who just doesn't fit into the blokey mould of footy player, doesn't buy into the whole player/ex-player bullshit and tends to walk to the beat of his own drum in that way.

Whether he's president material, I wouldn't know, others would know him and his abilities in that way better than me.

Still, could he be worse?

As he will have time on his hands whilst living off his fat Tax Payer funded super, he may be able to design another Smorgy Land

 There won't be another Smorgyland, but in my lifetime I envisage the Hawthorn Stand being torn down and a wellness centre of some sort going in next to the Legends stand. I see our Corporate Social Responsibility playing a large part of our future. I expect a basketball court will end up replacing the grassy knoll in the not too distant future and perhaps even a Kickstarter project and a few wealthy benefactors raising funds for a rejuvenated Gardiner Stand. Maybe even a neon 'Carlton Football Club' sign illuminating 24/7 at the entrance and a complete drainage overhaul of the ground all being in place before the start of the 2015 season. All these things don't require Justin Madden, but he's a good bloke and it'd be nice to see him at the footy more often...

Awful, awful thought.

Players union involvement more likely
