Which begs the question....what exactly is everyone around here basing their assessment of Barker on?

I will admit our dysfunctional forward line has made me thinking negatively of Barker, however, I got to trust Mick. You don't put a known spud in charge of such a valued part of the ground. Mick would probably rather have no back line coach (and do it himself) than appoint someone he doesn't rate.

Or that Mick has such strict non-negotiables on how the backline sets up, that Barks essentially sets up the witches hats and has very little input into what happens

Fwd line is product of lack of depth in midfield

Well there we go. Maybe Barker isn't the source of all our problems. Maybe if it remains just as dysfunctional with Green, some people may lay off Barker. Anyway, I still maintain that Mick would sooner have no backline coach than have someone he doesn't rate appointed as backline coach. Therefore if Mick is fine with Barker as backline coach then it is okay by me. But, it the coaching reshuffling, does indicate Brown leaving was a surprise to the club. Considering they said we would only be adding, and so far all we have done is replaced and shuffled some things around.

Nonsense
Our forward line gets its share of oppportunities. They just dont have the ability to capitalise.

I always rated Laidley, both as a player and most certainly as a coach. He took North from nothing to top 4 in a 12 month period.
A fantastic footy brain but lacks a little zizzle for the media these days.
No nonsense individual.

I think this is a fantastic get for us. Fits our player dynamic perfectly.

All I can say is ... ... the more wise heads guiding the Super Duper Coach, the better.

Good appointment.

If he's half the tactician that it's claimed he is...it's a great get. We're poor at most strategies ...let alone developing new ones ahead of others.

This was wished for a few years back when he was in limbo. Hopefully adds a fair bit with tactics & gels with MM again. Take it.

Met him once and he is a very congenial guy, open, disarmingly so. Spoke of the need to 'nurse' and 'massage' the players occasionally through difficult times (eg. goal kicking yips). My guess therefore is, like Wiley, these assistant coaches play good cop to Mick's bad cop.

...or that Mick rates Laidley that highly, that he doesn't think the ball will get into our back half.

In broad terms, the fact that our forward line is completely dysfunctional and our kicking for goal still remains some of the worst going around.

(His track record before coming over wasn't exactly stellar either)
