Carlton's FIXture for 2014

I love Jon Ralph trying to push that we've got a tough draw. If we're playing who we're rumoured to be playing twice it's not that much different from this year.

Draw is no harder IMO to this year. Only reason it is deemed tougher is because we only play Richmond once. An extra game against Geelong makes up for the singe match against Richmond.

Our only top 6 double ups are Port and Geelong (according to Caro). We always play Ess and Coll twice - Ralphy is just being dramatic.

Exactly. The draw, as much as it can be assessed at this point in time, isn't difficult.

Interstate trips will be on the lower end of the scale, given we play 7 out of eight non-Victorian teams once.

If we are good enough we will make finals. If not, we won't.

Could be easier than last year

It has been reported today that Collingwood will play 5 interstate games and play us, Geelong and Hawthorn twice. We us reportedly playing Geelong and Port twice it would appear that Collingwood has a tougher draw than despite not finishing in the top 6.

It's about dollars in the bank for the AFL. Nothing else. They want the top 6 to look like this (in any order)

Collingwood'
Carlton
Richmond
Essendon*
Hawthorn
WCE

That is their ideal. Then the policy of every side plays every other side twice would be like owning your own money tree for them. Of course, the following year, all the bottom sides would be on the eight because half the top six would have to drop out so it's just a nominal thing.

They do have a waiver.

The big games have to be played twice. You will rarely if ever see a season where Carlton and Collingwood play just once. And that year we played them at Etihad was obvioulsy a severe fukup on their part and will never happen again either.

We cop it and Collingwood has to cop it. In a way they suffer the most because of their drawing power. But they get the dolooars as a result. Up to now. If the AFL subsidises the gate takings, Eddie won't be so keen to play so many blockbusters because they won't get the gate.

Tend to agree, but would say Sydney is a bigger priority than Hawthorn, to secure the game, TV audiences etc.

Anyway, I don't care how often we travel, but if we don't have one match in Sydney every season from now, there's something very wrong. Ideally, we would have at least an alternating match against either side each year. That would be good for us, good for the AFL, good for the Sydney teams, and in case you missed it...good for Carlton.

Caro has written today that Carlton will play 2 Thursday night games, one against Richmond in round 2 and another against Freo mid year.
She says we will play 6 Friday nights and play Essendon* in round 23 which could also be a Friday night.

COLLINGWOOD and Carlton will clash on a Sunday night at the MCG in June 2014 in an AFL fixturing experiment.

The Pies and Blues are slated to play at 7.40pm on June 29 – the first weekend of the mid-year school holidays.

So if we play port in round 1 on a Sunday night, and play tigers round 2 on Thursday night ? 3 day break! Bit harsh

We played the first week of round 1. Round 1 is split over 2 weeks. We have an 11 day break. Tigers have 12 days break because try are playing Gold Coast on the Saturday of round 1 week 1.

The Grand Prix will start at 5pm, finishing a bit before 7pm. And what good is the footy season starting on the same weekend as the F1 if we're playing in Adelaide. :donk:
