Yep. I'm sure the club will file that one away next time it's is our home game in a similar circumstance. We can trust Swanny with that at least, can't we? Maybe ask his PA to set a calendar reminder or something for October 31st 2014.

And kezza, this isn't directed to you personally, but FFS!! The mindset that dwells on the 'penalty' for winning games of football will never be successful. I would have thought this lesson should have sunk into Carlton more than most.

Well it was directed to me personally, you quoted my post.
We were in reality the 9th best team.

Did we or did we not beat Richmond 2 out of 3 times? Port Adelaide twice? Where do they slot in?

Are we victims? Is that your point?

Seems to me that Bitchmond have been given a dream run into the finals and maybe even a top4 finish this year.
God help us listening to KB in 2014...

Actually we were the 8th best team. Essendon* cheated. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news Andy Maher!

We also lost to St Kilda, Bulldogs, Essendon* twice, Collingwood twice who will all get easier draws than us.
Just saying by being elevated into the finals and winning one we will get a tougher draw next year and later draft picks for a team that was in 9th place at the end of the home and away season.
I am allowed to have an opinion arent I?

West Coast were going to win the flag this year according to just about everyone. Everyone who had Port twice on their fixture in 2013 were given a dream run.

Hawthorn were going to be lucky to be breaking even at the halfway mark because of their horror early run.

The right teams tend to make the finals regardless of what sort of draw they had. I could be talked into Adelaide benefiting from playing expansion teams in 2012, but the way they pushed Hawthorn in the prelim validated their finals spot that year.

If we are good enough we will overcome the punishment handed out by the AFL for winning a final and make next year's finals series regardless of the draw. And if we are going to play this stupid game of deciding in Oct 2013 what teams we want to play in August 2014, I think Geelong and Port are two of the more palatable choices out of the five options we have.

I am not worried about the fixture, if we are good enough we will deal with it.

This year we played 1 top 6 side twice, next year we play 2, is it really worth losing sleep over?

Does anyone really think Port will finish top 6 again? Geelong could even drop off a bit.

Seems to me our draw will be about the same level of difficulty as this year.

I think people enjoy whining.

I'd say that Les Whinen ought to do more thinking and less whining!

Can't wait for our opener against Port on a Sunday at Etihad!

Who cares what other teams fixtures are. On paper means almost nothing.

Agreed great we are opening the season - good we have tigers second
About time we beat sides like geelong at Etihad or MCG - we were at the end 6th side in comp and need to use platform to go higher
NO WAY AM I AT ALL SORRY TO BEAT RICHMOND in that final it was fantastic -94,000 there come from behind victory against all the odds pundits etc against a mortal enemy who was raging favourite -apart from Grannies one of the best finals win I can remember

One of the most satisfying things about it was the majority of those 94,000 were Richmond supporters

I don't care who we play where or when or twice. We will either be good enough or not and those teams who have 'easy' fixtures will be found out quickly in the finals. I want to be a genuinely good side and not rely on an easy draw to make the top 6.

I find it funny that people keep insisting we finished 9th in 2013, as i recall we finished 8th after the home and away season was complete and we actually had to earn that spot by beating Port Adelaide in the Final Game.

After our Finals win against Richmond we ended the year in 6th position.

It's really that simple.

People saying we were gifted the finals berth etc is just nonsense. Of the teams eligible to play finals in 2013 we made 8th.
