This has been bandied around before - but it seems it's back on the agenda with a number of clubs showing interest. With Demetriou's pending exit post-2014, the door is ajar for the first time for 2015. Interestingly - of the keen parties - only Gold Coast, Western Bulldogs, Carlton, Hawthorn, Geelong and Collingwood have pitched their idea to the AFL.

The Bulldogs have gone 'all in' with competition equalisation being at the forefront of why they need Good Friday to promote their brand. Internally, they are quietly confident of getting it. The Gold Coast's pitch revolves around playing the game at home and in doing so would not be giving a free kick to the NRL who rate through the roof on Good Friday and broadcast to a national audience. Collingwood are interested in creating another blockbuster. A showcase of the AFL brand at night - but their selling point is one of corporate social responsibilty. A massive % of gate takings would go to the Royal Children's Hospital if the Pies get the nod. The Cats want another game in Geelong and the Hawks are spruiking their family club image and resurgent popularity amongst Gen Y and female followers to bring families back to the footy.

Carlton and North Melbourne are still pitching geography (the two suburbs that border the Royal Children’s Hospital) for a twilight Good Friday game at Etihad Stadium. They would have the winning captain and coach go into the RCA Appeal on TV post-match to present a cheque of $100,000.
It's North's idea - so forget about it being a home game.

Be nice if Carlton didn't have to piggy-back off of others (or their ideas) to be invited to the dance. But it'll continue to be a bidding war in 2014 and all the clubs think it's a shoe-in to be on the fixture for 2015.

Question to supporters is...presuming it's a given for 2015 - which model do you like/prefer? And whom/where would you like to play?

A bit like Anzac Day, I don't see why there cant be multiple games. If GC play one up there, would seem silly not to have something happening in Melbourne also, in a different time slot.

The RCH benefit seems an obvious fit, but maybe they do well enough out of GF already. But then I guess a kids hospital can never have too much money.

Collingwood can @#$%&! off......Anzac Day and GF...greedy shits.

Carl vs Roos, with the home game rotated.

Come to think of it, why should any two teams get it perpetually? Perhaps make it like ANZAC Day should be - top two Vic teams from the season prior.

Given the way the umpires crucified us last time we played them, maybe we could push for a Hawthorn Carlton clash?

The Collingwood approach is the best from my perspective Doc. I think it needs to be really heavily linked to charity and that a blockbuster game is more appealing to the AFL than one which involves North (not sure why we are running with them on this).

Otherwise I think the Gold Coast initiative is reasonable too because it gives them a spot on the calendar and reduces the free kick the NRL currently has on that date.

The AFL should have done this years ago. It's all very well for Demetriou to crap on about families spending a day together, but it;s a bit hollow when he oversees a competition that restricts employment opportunities and forces teenagers away from their families and friends based on the luck of the draft.

Ideally, if it was done ages ago then Carlton may have had a chance to secure it as an ongoing fixture.

I stated years ago that tying in with the Good Friday Appeal was the link to making it a workable solution, which in effect locks the fixture in to being two Victorian teams, as most of Australia would have NFI about the GFA.

If it happens, I can see Gold Coast getting the gig, with probably a large Vic-based club to ensure a decent crowd.

I think the North–Carlton partnership with the captains involved etc, is a good idea too and as I said, it would have been nice to have made this happen a decade or so ago.

A good way to have done this would have been to just get the club on the front foot on Good Friday Appeal and building a rapport with the community so that when the inevitable fixture happens that Carlton's ownership of the day, from a footy point of view, was already well established.

But I spose it's better to sit on your arse with good footy people who didn't kill anyone and suck down a few Crownies on your day off.

Peter Gordon is pushing really hard for the Bulldogs to be involved. It's going to be very hard to ignore someone who makes a very good business case. It all comes back to having a good President and CEO. Ours are lazy - and are not good presenters. Kernahan and Swann survive via the club having a very strong supporter base. If we're not careful - that supporter base will diminish before our very eyes.

We are a reactive club. I want us to be proactive. Brayshaw went to Kernahan and Swann and said 'Would you be interested in this given we both border the Hospital?' and they said 'Sure.....sounds good...' and presumably offered him a Crown Lager for his troubles.

Carlton need to think strategically. They may have promised the strategy (see Blue Print 2011-2015) but they are incapable of implementing it with the current President and CEO.

I agree with horse - why does it have to be set on two particular teams?

I'd like to see the bulldogs business case doc, other than "it's not fair, we don't have money, give it to us"

Should be at the peoples ground also in my opinion.

So in summary, top two vic teams from previous season, MCG, percentage of every ticket sold goes to RCH with collectors there also. Easter eggs for everyone

It's about f'n time Good Friday had some AFL played on it. People's choice, not AD's to watch, and I'm sure it'd get great viewing numbers both live & on tv. Most boring day in the calendar.
Like the Gold Coast (day) game & then a game in Melbourne to suit the appeal if it's such a sticking point or event. No idea what time the RMH appeal is but would think Melbourne day game & GC night match would actually work better with the climate on the GC. Would like CFC involved but killing the long w/end with a loss against North or WBD would be a dampener.

With the possibility of losing the game, and therefore Good Friday becoming Bad Friday, I'm happy to sit this one out.

Too late mate...George Calombaris has already been approached. Carlton supporter. I'm thinking he and Juddy do a 'Two Bald Blues' segment. Straight to YouTube?

If it's to be a stand-alone feature game then i think it has to be played at the MCG, similar feature games such as ANZAC Day, Queen's B'day & the big finals are all there and this is no different.

No real concern over who's home game it is as it sounds like a large percentage of revenue would be going to charitable causes anyway, but i think it's important that we're involved simply because it showcases our club in a timeslot that 16 other clubs don't have access to.

ON the radio the other night, forget who it was, basically said that Norf deserve ANZAC Day because they played well this year and really deserved to play finals.

Love it Doc.

I do want Carlton playing on GF if a game is to be played on that day.
It should be Carlton vs Collingwood, like I believe Anzac Day should and should have been.

I know Carlton Coll is a blockbuster any day, and so we can add another Blockbuster to the Carlton calendar by playing against NM or Footscray.

I think there should be a GF game in every state. No one should own any day unless Carlton is included.

Onya
