Myers and Colyer for pick 2? They actually put that up as a serious trade offer? Essendon* are a joke of a club. If you put up those two for pick 2 you just can't be taken seriously during the trade period. I reckon it's counterproductive to be that idiotic.

Sorry I meant we are using trade period to add depth into the midfield and will use this years draft to load up on talls

There aren't the talls to load up on in this years batch. Next year is another matter.

Well Andy McKay must be talking crap then

..i understand game time and opportunity may be less with a player 'like' chappy coming onto the list.. ..but i will also say that there's isn't just spot 21 up for grabs in our best 22.. ..a third of the afl side is easily malleable.. ..the few kids we have that look like playing more senior games next year, still are doubtful for playing games all season long.. ..chappy says he will play for min. wage, won't cost a trade, we have a dozen spots opening up on our list and plenty of spots up for grabs on the senior list.. ..1 player like chappy won't upset the development cart.. ..you can't buy [actually, now we can] 250+ games of experience in a champ team, a hardened finals campaigner that can help guide the team, let alone the youth.. ..and, a player like chappy isn't a club hero for us, so if we 'treat him shabbily' and play him afl and ressie level, tough titties for chappy i says..

Andy McKay on SEN radio this morning, here's what he said.....

On chapman: "is obviously one we are considering but it's vey early stages at the moment. He has a good a bit of good footy left in him and we'd be mad not to look at him, but we are a long way off"

On Savage: "we've spoken to Shane and he seems reasonably keen to have an opportunity at other clubs. We will be pursuing him and we'll see how that pans out"

"You gotta keep in mind we are constrained by salary cap plus we wanna use three or four picks in the draft so we gotta be aware of that as well"

He was asked by Andy maher if they could use the Hampson draft pick to trade to the hawks for savage his response.... " yeah that's an option Andy but we would like to give a later pick"

On The three players: "they are certainly moveable. there are a number a number of players that are untouchable and there are some who for the right the deal can be moved but we value all our players and it would have to be something good to make us move in them"

On pods: "he's an interesting one, a key forward who has a a year or two footy left In him. He may suit us on a very short term basis but it's very early days.

On Sam Docherty: "yeah we are definitely interested in him. Has indicated he wants to come to us. We have to negotiate with the lions what they what and negotiate with Sam what he financially. we need to get all our ducks in a row for him to get to Carlton."

Well done Macca, you've basically said we will try on a later pick for Savage but suspect Hawks will seek 28

This is Negotiation Class 1 aka amateur hour at Carlton

He's now on AFL.com.au trade radio program.

Here's what he said about chappy: "he is certainly an option but a short term option. The idea of Having him there will help with the development of some of the younger kids as they come through

On savage: A way off from getting savage. We are trying to speak to him but no offer been made to hawthorn as he is talking to other clubs

Gumbleton: we tried last year but got nowhere. We are not into Scott gumbleton and won't be pursuing him

Levi Casboult: we haven't offered him up. There's been some slight interest from other clubs but not with any conviction. We don't like putting our players up so clubs have to approach us about them.

Docherty: we have spoke to Sam and we keen to pursue him. Over the next week or so we need to make sure Sam really wants to come to us and if he does, we need to talk finances and then we will up our effort talking a deal.

Yarran: is required player and tremendous player and a good fella. west coast have shown no interest at all.

Scotland: has not been offered a contract but he is thinking about his position as he recovers from his ankle injury. Keep in mind we need to free up spots on our list and both parties have to be happy

Robinson Mitch not going anywhere. Not sure where this rumours coming from

Daniel cross. We've spoken to him, his work ethic is fantastic and a great example to young players and he'd make a very good coach as well

Seems as if both Savage and Docherty at chasing a bit of coin to me.

Looks as if Melbourne is throwing up some cash at these players like Viv, savage, docherty

The three most interesting points for me. I wouldn't be surprised if Scotland's situation depends on what happens with Docherty, and I'm curious about why he would mention coaching with Cross.

Also interesting about the wanting "three or four picks" in the draft.

We'd have about 7 or 8 ATM yeah?

With Curnow and Bell needing to be upgrading from rookie to senior the list, how many spots left on our senior list including the pick for Hampson?

So at this stage, we are seriously chasing, Chapman, Cross and Podsiadly. The others are meh.

Great strategy. We are going back to the olden days again.

No idea how you'd come to that conclusion after reading those comments.

Kenny it may be so Doherty's manager doesn't try and put a high price on the contract.
