Hi everyone - there is some very interesting stuff in this collection including some type written notes from Jezza surrounding the reasons why he left the club in 1979 and who he in no uncertain terms blamed for the situation.

Go to this link in - and it will take you to the auction website and you can actually see the letters and other cool stuff.

Click here to see the website with the typed letter on it:http://tinyurl.com/p2adl6bthen you need to click on the first image of the letter and click on enlarge.

Thanks AGRO, interesting reading

I loved Jezza and he was always my favourite player growing up.

Its amazing given the fractious nature of the football club at the time that we managed to win 2 premierships after Jezza left.

There will always be pub room debate would we have managed to win the 4 premierships in a row had Jezza remained at the club or not.

We'll never know - but it certainly was interesting times.

Good read. What was the reasoning for Lofts wanted Jezza out so badly??

I dont think Lofts wanted Jezza out so badly - Lofts probably wanted Harris out and Jezza was just collateral damage.

There is another school of thought which suggests that Jezza really wasnt that much of a coach (tactically), and that the playing group of 1978/1979 just revered him so much that they would (and did) walk over hot coals for him - and that they really willed themselves to that Premiership in 1979, and that had Jezza remained as coach for the post 1980 period he would have been exposed tactically, as Percy Jones was in 1980.

David Parkin was able to come in (with the aid of 2 super recruits in Peter Bosustow and Ken Hunter) and wring out every last bit of potential from this group in 1981/1982.

It makes for great evening of pub debate which ever school of thought you subscribe to.

More than 2 super recruits. Don't forget Greg Wells. And didn't Glascott and Maylin start then too? A whole new awesome centre line. Oh, and Vladimir the pig hunter might have come that year as well.

Disappointing result for Jezza's auction tonight. Many items passed in and unsold. The 1979 player and coach medal garnered $20,000 each. The ball kicked to register his 100th goal sold for $13,500, as did the 1970 premiership medal. The 1968 premiership medal went unsold. Other than that, the Victorian jumpers sold for between $1,800 and early $2,000's and there was some miscellaneous stuff that sold for a few hundred. Keenest bidders in the room were the enamel badge, lapel and cufflink collectors...but overall not much interest in the other stuff. Photo collection, slides. film and scrapbooks all unsold.

The club really should have bought that letter (did it sell?) ... that is a fascinating piece of Carlton history.

The club doesn't buy memorabilia Liam. In a perfect world, there would be a fund set aside that purchased some items of Jezza's stuff for posterity - but it's far from a perfect world at Carlton. The letter didn't sell. But a lot didn't sell. I quite liked the photograph autographed by one of the gents below...but not for $500.

He was going to leave them to his kids; but they said they didn't need them; and he should sell them to attain funds for a big Family holiday.....he said ''OK''

Sorry Doc.....but that is virtually verbatim what the great man told Tim Watson on 7 News at PP a few weeks ago.
