Rhys O’Keeffe delisted.

I understand the thinking but I'm not convinced this is a great idea.

5 years for 3 games, and he had to elevated to the senior list for next year.
Had to go unfortunately.

Confusing. So is Laidler counted in that 8? The article tends to say he isn't

Luke Mitchell, Patrick McCarthy, Marcus Davies and Aaron Joseph have been informed that they will not be offered new contracts.

Rookies Rhys O’Keeffe, Frazer Dale and Andrew Collins will also depart, while after 24 games for the Blues Jeremy Laidler has informed the Club he wishes to seek further opportunity elsewhere.

That's 8 in total.

You'd imagine there is still more to come over the next month. I don't think Ellard, Duigan, White etc. would be sitting too comforably yet.

Technically - it's 5...but there'll be more. We must think there's a home for Duigan somewhere.

That's why I said I understand it. His last 12 months missing was due , not to an injury, but by post op infection.

But from the limited time I saw him I thought he showed the sort of vigour needed.

Anyway, good luck Rhys.

I think he will be too. He's not contracted for next year yet though is he?

Add Buckley to that list as well I guess.

Betts makes six.

Allowing for Bell/Curnow promotions, probably inclusions of Staker and Thomas, and four draft picks. Two more to come.

I can't see White being moved on at this stage, i seem to recall MM having flagged that he would be returning to the seniors just before he did himself the injury in the twos.

As he should be IMO. He showed some good signs of progress this year.

O'Keeffe should get opportunity elsewhere, could be real find but as mentioned we had two options and his track history with injury doesn't support senior selection.
I have always been a fan and have waited anxiously for him to get fit and no doubt ill be cursing if/when he excels for an opposition club. Good luck to him though.

Liking the delistings thus far. Go Mick go!

EIGHT DEPART VISY PARK

Carlton has made eight changes to its senior and rookie lists as it prepares for the upcoming trade period and drafts.

Luke Mitchell, Patrick McCarthy, Marcus Davies and Aaron Joseph have been informed that they will not be offered new contracts, with rookies Rhys O’Keefe, Fraser Dale and Andrew Collins also to depart.

While Jeremy Laidler has informed the Club he wishes to seek further opportunity elsewhere. Laidler played 24 senior games during his three seasons at the Blues.

Joseph departs after 73 senior games for Carlton, having made his debut for the Club in Round 1, 2009 against Richmond.

The 24-year-old went on to be named Carlton's Best First Year Player in 2009.

Marcus Davies made 17 senior appearances for Carlton after being picked up with selection umber 43 in the 2009 National Draft, while Luke Mitchell and Patrick McCarthy have each played one AFL game in the navy blue.

Carlton General Manager of Football Operations, Andrew McKay has thanked the players for their commitment and dedication during their time at Visy Park.

“Each of these eight boys have all made a valuable contribution to the Carlton Football Club and we thank them for that,” McKay said.

“In Jeremy’s meeting he expressed that he would like to look for an opportunity at another Club and we respect and support his decision to do so.”

“On behalf of everyone at the Club I sincerely thank the players for their service and wish them all the best for their future football and personal careers.”

He'll be fine with it. He still thinks he can play AFL footy and will put himself in the draft. If that doesn't work out - he'll play SANFL with JR next year.

We are better of cutting hard and delisting a few borderline cases, especially if they have injuries or have had 6 years on the list. Good luck to them if they play 50 games elsewhere. How many of those types have we recruited: bannister, chris johnson etc etc.
Cut, Cut, Cut I say

What are the rules with regards to cutting deeper at a later date?

I think the rules have changed with the last AFLPA agreement, so I'm not sure how it goes with further delistings. I think that might be it.

However I'm sure that we'll be trying to make some trades.

Buckley, Lucas, McInnes, Scotland, Duigan, Curnow, Cachia, White, Ellard still remain either out of contract or yet to be promoted.
