Unless I'm missing something Josh, why would Collingwood go for a 5th rounder rather than a compo pick? In any event, I strongly suspect the AFL wouldn't allow it....

so Collingwood give us a free compo pick? Dunno

If Betts leaves which it appears he will, and collingwood are planning on picking up another free agent, thus losing their compo pick for Thomas, we could potentially reach an agreement which would beneficial to both clubs. That is, if the clubs could put their hatred for each other to the side for a moment.

We could give them say a 3rd or 4th round pick for Thomas, which would be better than getting nothing (as would be the case if they pick up another F/A) and we would retain our compo pick Betts, most likely a 2nd rounder.

End result =
Collingwood gain a 3rd or 4th round pick
Carlton upgrade 3rd or 4th round pick to a 2nd round pick

Win / win for both clubs

It doesn't work. It'd have to be our 1st round not our 5th if it was to be a trade. FA compo would be the same as our 1st round for them anyway (actually they'll have 2 picks before us now as we stand with FA & our 1st rounder).

Yep...I'd do that for a kid that hasn't played a senior AFL game. As I said...we lack the balls. But if you want a full-forward capable of doing some things that Brendan Fevola did - there's your man.

..and what would geelong want off us..?..

Well sorry mate I don't spend all day every day trawling footy forums. The last few posts were asking why collingwood would give up daisy for a late pick and gift us a compo pick, just a scenario where it would suit both clubs

I'd like to see the following list changes prior to 2014:

Trades:
GWS: Yarran (sublime, then very ordinary) and Hammer (useless IMO but could be a good ruck at GWS)
Carl: Pick 1 - Boyd
This way Yarran doesn't really hurt us for a while cos he's playing for GWS!

Rich: Our first/second pick
Carl: Martin

Someone: Lucas (can't stand him, just so soft)
Carl: A decent/depth KPF

Free Agency:
Get Thomas through free agency
Lose Betts (I would actually hate to see this but think it will happen) through free agency but watch Menzel and Buckley take another step.

Retirements:
Scotland - I love him, but I think it's time

Delist:
Seniors: Mclean (has smarts but just too slow), Joseph, Davies, McCarthy, Laidler, Duigan, one of Rowe/Mitchell (one stays for depth)
Rookies: Dale, O'Keeffe, Collins

Best 22:
B: Touhy, Jamo, Hendo
CB: Simmo, Watson, Walker
M: Gibbs, Martin, Carazzo
CF: Garlett, Waite, Thomas
F: Buckley, Boyd, Menzel
R: Kreuzer, Murphy, Judd
I: Warnock, Curnow, Graham, (Armfield)

This side has a good mix of talls, midfield grunt, good running backs and sneaky forwards and between two and three taggers (Curnow, Carazzo and possibly Army but could use him for speed ala Chris Yarran to mix it up).

Back up:
Mid: Robbo, Ellard, Bell, Temay, Cachia
B: McInnes, White, Bootsma,
F/R: Casboult, one of Rowe/Mitchell, the player we get for Lucas?

Draft:
Eight players to draft. A new ruckman project, three mids, 2KPP, 1 mid fwd, 1 mid back + Rookies

THOUGHTS?

Each to their own but he is not a player I'd want in a key final match

You made it past us getting Pick 1 for Yarran and Hampson?

I stopped reading at Yarran and Hampson for pick 1. But then I started reading again to find out how we could get dangerfield for Marcus Davies, O'meara for Aaron Joseph and Jeremy Cameron for Frazer Dale

Boyd is a must. We dont have any decent forward except for a fit Waite, which is not reliable. Gotta give to get. Ain't gonna get pick one for nothing. And I'd be happy to be proven wrong re Brock but just isn't the quality we need IMO

On the AFL website, Luke Darcy has written that he doesnt think that Betts, Yarran and Garlett will be at Carlton next year.
Surely the 3 amigos wont be gone in one year, surely.
