Medical department have the last word on players getting on the ground, not coaches. But don't let facts get in the way of a hanging...

Brought him back not once but TWICE ! early. Ratten had half the list playing injured though. Yarran with turf toe, Murphy rushed back from a shoulder reconstruction, tried playing Hendo until the bloke needed groin surgery, Carazzo rushed back, Kreuzer playing despite getting knee drained after every game.

I'm not one to defend Ratten - far from it - but that's what happens when you only get 1-2 year contracts and you're left to think that your coaching day-to-day (rather than long term) for your future.

IF we dont get daisy(fingers cross let coll pay medical bills)and say our ff eddie betts leaves what compensation pick do we get.Over the years off poor drafting we have done better with our late picks than early ones.

Hasn't Murf played injured for most if the year including getting his knee drained.

You could hear Judd's knee squeaking against Richmond till he got the half time needle.

Tell me all you know about dislocated kneecaps.

The others are just what every player/team/coach go through every year. Even Mick... even this year.

assuming betts goes, what is the rumored difference in pay and length of contract we are giving him compared to Adelaide and kangas? seems to me it wouldn't be that much different!!

Yeah, back when Shane O'Sullivan was boss, not any more.

Ox and whathisname on Sen both saying their sources say Diasy will definitely be at Carlton next year

Now, if this happens, and if Betts walks, does gettin Daisy mean we no longer get any compensation for losin Betts? Is that how it works?

Yeh, how does that work?

This free agency thing is so confusing.

Does anyone know if we still get a compo pick?

I think we miss the comp pick but I'm not sure. I mean you lose one you get one so they cancel each other out.

But if that is the rule what happens if the player you lose and the one you gain are differently ranked say you gain a average player but lose a star? Surely you'd get some sort of comp, maybe a second rounder??

Look this will be good.

Dale was considered by many two years ago to be among the best few players in the AFL. I think it was Lyon who said he was the best. Club would never pay $600k plus over multiple years if the medicos think his ankles were a significant worry. So we have to assume we are getting a good player. He's an upgrade on Betts bec he can play fwd AND midfield whereas Betts can't

So there's one mid

Use our first pick to get another

Trade Yarran for another. He would have currency.

Then trade Hampson and our second rounder to get another

That's how you get 4 good mids

The Hampson deal would be the toughest one to pull off. But a second rounder is a fair bloody sweetener. Maybe a GC or GWS would give us an earlier pick , say they give us their second rounder so we effectively upgrade our second rounder courtesy of Hammer, and this we use on a mid.

Unless they've changed it from last year, compensation is calculated on any NET loss. So players lost are balanced out against players gained, and any possible compo based on that.

So...Betts out might give end of first round pick (say, no idea what it would be). Betts out, average Joe in - might get end of second round. Betts out, Thomas, in, almost certainly no pick.
