The most sensible thing I have hear come out of Carlton in over a decade.

Let's face it ... we are shithouse at trading ... our trading the last 5 years has been terrible. We pay overs ... way overs.

Grow up Carlton ... embrace the draft ... it has won premierships for Geelong, Hawthorn, Collingwood and Sydney.

We have paid out contracts to two sacked coaches in the last 6 years ... if we invested this type of money into our recruiting department we would be reaping far better rewards.

Hawthorn, Sydney and Collngwood have recruited via trade heavily for need to win premierships, so they have not exactly been patient. They have just chosen the right players.

Phyc, don't get frightened by this as I know some do when I back them up but - YOU'RE RIGHT!

Thats the obvious thing.. players leaving .. judd being reduced.. so somehow that automatically means we have alot of space.
But you guys arent privy to the inner workings of our contracting and how theyre arranged.
My info is we get Daisy and from there its a bunch of B n C grade contracts..

Say we wanted for arguments sake Dal Santo... impossible.. and hes a 450/550 k player..

Its not what you think.. and Eddie leaves...D Thomas comes in and thats that.....

if the right deal came along maybeeeeee we can squeeze something.. but this is it...!!!

We dont have a million in the salary cap with Eddie leaving and Judds salary re done..

But Psych.. glad you have Surrey in your corner not mine...

Why is it all about winning, sides, corners etc with you?

Theres a guy playing at the Hawks; think he won the Liston this year.

He's as hard as a cats head, but hasn't been able to crack into their midfield as yet.
He's the type of player i'd be chasing. Been there 3 years i think...could be looking for a change

Disagree ... they have traded only to put the pieces together.

Hawthorn ... their team was built around Hodge, Buddy, Roughead, Birchall and Mitchell

Collingwood ... their team was built around Pendlebury, Cloke, Swan, Shaw and Reid

Sydney ... their team is built around Goodes, Hanneberry, Bolton, McVeigh and O'keefe

We lack the balls, and he has a year to run on a contract with the Cats - but I would offer Shane Kersten seriously good coin to leave Kardinia Park. I'm talking $825k over 3 years. Yep...I'd do that for a kid that hasn't played a senior AFL game. As I said...we lack the balls. But if you want a full-forward capable of doing some things that Brendan Fevola did - there's your man.

You are right, we pay overs to get players in and get screwed by other clubs when our players leave.

 It's when they are pretty much there that they target players they need to turn themselves into Premiership contenders.

Our drafting has been horrible, this better change now....

Your maths must be out Synners!!!

I dont need to know your inside scoop to know you are also not privy to the list management / contract info!!!

We have cap room (and would have made room last year) and this year we also have contracts ending which we didnt have last year so there is definitely room to make broad strokes if the opportunity (ie. sought after players wish to move) arises.

If you disagree....fine, I dont want to know who tells you the story, just fill us in on who's taking all the cap? Coz your maths is wrong!!

The club never paid out Denis Pagan. Fraser Brown did. That's part of the reason why Ratts got appointed.

Kersten has three times the ability of Simpson too. Simpson was a very good mark. AFL standard mark. But was caught in that ugly not quite a ruckman height and not quite a forward. I saw Kersten first hand for the second time on Saturday and he had similar traits to Fevola. Great mark, excellent kick, fantastic forward pressure, very quick, loves to get involved. A better mark and kick than Stewart Crameri. The Cats are patient. They have a midfielder or two that would get a regular game with 17 other clubs playing in their VFL side too.

my maths isnt out .. because im not the one thats counting...silly!!!

youre going on newspaper reports arent you?
youre doing all your counting from tallying up what you think .. or guestimating what everyone is being paid..

So if my maths is out.. (i dont say i am even counting a nything.. but relaying what the situation is..).. YOU count the contract figures here ... NOW!!!... seeing you are counting... and i never said i did..

Come on then!!!... you can use Surrey and Psych to give you a hand...
