What about Cachia? Can he be kept on the rookie list?

Cachia ought to be kept as he could develop into a big bodied tagger
He and Curnow are the taggers moving forward

Am I right in thinking Malthouse said he made 12 changes after their premiership year?

Yes he did say that not long ago... some of the youngsters that Nafan is tossing over are due to Collingwood's turnover under Mick.

I'm glad we've finally woke up in regards to the state of our list... I welcome the changes to come

I'm only reservedly excited though because I'm not sure I trust our recruiters

We might as well keep Buckley for another couple years.
He is very quick and can find the goals.
Needs a couple more pre seasons and if we are losing the amigos...

He's already gone Menzel.

Really? :0
Jimmy wont be happy. Im putting trust in MM to do the right thing.
Time for big changes :)

Yep. I know a number of "good football" people that rate Buckley. Can't see it myself.

Like Yarran can do some really classy things but doesn't do enough to be a quality AFL footballer IMO.

This list turnover will take a minimum of 2 years (2013-2014), it'll only be 2015 that we'll begin to get this list more balanced if we recruit/trade right. There's simply not enough good mature players loose at the moment to fill all the holes or to develop young draftees. Cap space will also improve further next year you'd think. Patience is the key here. MM knows what he's doing and I believe him when he talks about 'no quick fix.' He'll get this club into dynasty mode but sadly he won't receive the accolades; his successor will walk into the job with the list on a silver platter a-la Scott at Geelong.

Making the finals by default and beating Richmond who are not much chop has made many delusional. Our list is average at best. Most footy people will tell you the game is won in the midfield with players that run hard nd with skill ...That hasn't changed in 100 years. Yet look what kind of list we have built ... We are years off it ... You don't build a quality midfield over night. Yet ratten and our recruiters had Judd and a couple of no. 1's and the thought that's all we need.

MM will do everything he can to clean up this mess ... And we he departs we will be much better off ... But again we are years off.

Look at our midfield:
Judd is 30 and not what he was
Carrazzo is finished
Brock is done
Murph needs quality around him to shine and doesn't work hard enough both ways like the elite
Gibbs will be top line but ratten wasted him all those years off the hbf even though he recruited squillions of them
The rest are rookies: bell will never be fit enough and no skill, curnow you need his type runs hard both ways but no skill
Cachia not up to it
Ellard ditto
Lucas ... A first round draft pick really? Not hard, no skill, lazy and doesn't work hard

Inc retirements and rookies I can see potentially 20-23 players leaving in the next two years

Ellard
Bell
Curnow
Cachia
Even Crrazzo lol

Says it all really

Mick is right our midfield is poor

Watto must play 1's to have a better gauge. Seems to perform better at the higher level & even though the jury is still out but if the coaches can work out his deficiencies then his reading of the play & foot skills (who knows, maybe a swing man as well) are worth persisting with.

Rowe should be on that list, don't understand why he was signed up for next year.

Just in case he got poached :donk:

If we're willing to part with 2 of our rucks then keeping Rowe as a backup isn't all that far fetched...

If Paton is on the table from GWS then we must have a red hot go.

There is a lot of discussion now that our season is effectively over on the list for 2013.

Along with the coach I believe that this is the MOST vital issue to address.

IMO we have some real talent on our list. We have some match winners and some class.

My issue is the depth and injuries have really shown us up in the area. However, I also believe we aren't far off and as such this years trade period will be absolutely crucial.

This is what I would be looking at:

1. Put the three ruckman on the market and hope to get a really great offer on one. e.g. Hampson to GC for Caddy or Warnock to GWS for Greene?
2. Really cut our list of average players in the system for a while. Bower, Russell, Thornton, White, Kerr, Heyne, Carter etc.
3. Free agency is now in. Can we get a big bodied mid to help us NOW!
4. Trades. We don't have much apart from the ruckman as detailed above or an early pick. Can we get some good young talent to add?
5. Should be a strong draft. 3-4 good kids added to the list. Please do not go with the speculative third rounder again. I like Rowe and Duigan but why did we not use a late or rookie pick? Poor IMO.
6. Mature aged. Now becoming more vital. Is there a Barlow, Magner, Zorko out there? Im sure there is.

This October/November could well determine a top 4 spot in 2013.

*Above was my original post to start this topic in July 2012. Not much has changed??? :?

Hardly any revelations that warrant a "told you so" in there psych.
Where's the killer blow?

We know we're going to go in hard. We knew that 4 months ago which is a good starting point. Let's hope we've already laid the necessary ground work.

Will be interesting as to who are named in the first list cull. I'd suggest Davies, Joseph, Dale, Collins, Mitchell and possibly Duigan may be very nervous right now.

Harks, it's not I told you so it's more of nothing much has changed.

My biggest criticism is the lack of turnover of players over the past few years. We have recruited poorly BUT we haven't made tough decisions on players that should of been made over the past few years.

but u want s okeefe to stay???

O'Keefe should stay. The games for the NB's at the end of this year he was averaging over 20 possessions. The injury issue this year was not tissue related but an infection following out of season surgery. With at least 8 changes we can afford to include Curnow, Bell and O'Keefe on the list. That still gives us 5 picks in the draft.
