Yes.
Limited pre-season. Busted cheekbone which he only missed 1 game with.
Some people forget this guy was the most valuable player in the AFL less than 2 years ago according to the coaches.
Murph cant afford a limited pre-season. He's not quick (over 3 seconds for 20 metre sprint from memory). He needs the miles in his legs to break away from taggers which he hasnt been able to get.
Plenty of upside yet.

Should be 'some' not 'we'.

Murph is a class act. Should he be captain? Maybe not, but he is a clever footballer. He could use some help with his game as could many currently on AFL lists.

IMO criticism of Murphy is just un-educated and Richmond-like.

Love Murph  .

Maybe a bit tough on him. But the fact is he is our captain, and with that comes expectation and criticism.

Yesterday it was again Simpson doing the revving up and Judd lifting the team. He rightfully should be continually challenged to rise up in voice and actions when the team needs it. The Port game should be the rule, not the exception.

Boak, Selwood and Cotchin all have less experience behind them, yet they are undeniably the leaders of their teams. Hopefully next year Murph is the one to take this team by the balls and lift them no matter how much it hurts.

On Sunday I watched Trent Cotchin mark the ball inside the F50 in the opening couple of minutes of the 4th quarter of a close final, only to give the ball off to someone in a worse position. And while they may have scored from the following passage of play, it was only accidentally because Robbo's a moron.

Murphy's body combined with a lack of support as Judd has declined may have hampered him this year, but at least he gets it. Get him fit and get the right support around him (Gibbs is a great start) and he'll deliver I reckon.

I have been defending him all year

I remember that and thought it was a bit odd. He should have had a crack at the big sticks.

Back to Murph, I think we/they/everyone has been critical of Murph and while we can debate the merits of that criticism the pleasing thing is he is improving. Perhaps not as quickly as we might like, but certainly his last couple of weeks have been pretty good.

For Murph and his mates it's nice to see we're able to string together some pretty impressive patches of play this late into the season. Just wish we were more consistent, but hopefully that will come with more confidence.

X3. I've always had a man-crush on Smurph.
