Don't do an Eddie McChins Don.

Lets put ourselves in a position to be sick of interstate finals first.

Wouldn't dream of it. It's just that the scenarios never work in our favour in September.

We don't control the scenarios when we finish 8th (9th)

We go in with no pressure and no outside expectations knowing we beat them 9/10 times!

Well...there's the Grand Final.

But considering the year we've had I'd probably cop that.

Just realised that in 1999 I watched the game in Hong Kong (and did a hammy playing kick to kick afterwards on a rugby field).

Weird thing is I haven't been to Hong Kong since but I'm flying there on the 16th...

I suddenly feel all blueman-ish (without the hallucinogens).

Even if we don't win today, it's still glorious to wake up knowing Essendon* and Collingwood are gone

Can we win? Of course, it depends on which Carlton turns up.

I am concerned with the balance of the line up. Too tall for me and that nearly cost us last week.

It cost Sydney last night.

Never underestimate how important the rotation of your runners are in today's football.

We have played our best football this year with one ruckman plus a Casboult/Rowe in support and an extra runner.

Personally I hope we go in with Kruezer/Casboult & Henderson up forward. Defence of Waite, Jamison & Walker on Edwards.

I wouldn't mind Duigan as sub either.

It was so obvious worth Sydney last night, particularly having both ruckmen around the ball so often. We are 1 tall too many and probably 2 injured players too many - about the same as the Swans...

watabout the magpies and their tall structures?
reid cloke and okeefe up forward....

lol

you dont need too many talls up forward ... especially if they dont catch the ball and kick straight..
youre much better off with an army of fast mobile midfieders who can mark and kick as wel as pressurize

casboult is blahhhhh.. on his day hes ok.. the rest of the time youre hoping.
judd doesnt run 2 ways .. and doesnt hurt u on the scoreboard...

Load up on talls means u r tempted with the hail mary going forward

I'm still hoping for a couple of late changes.

For the reasons Synbad just gave about talls, I don't like having three talls who don't provide pressure around the ground and through the forwardline. With Warnock, Kreuzer and Casbault, we have to play two of them forward to maintain our rotations. Its too much.

Also have my doubts over playing Judd, Scotland and McLean. Unless Scotland and McLean really were rested last week then there has to be doubt over their ability to play 4 quarters of pressure AFL Finals.

We can plan to have one of them as a sub and one be subbed off, but if we have an injury in the first 5mins of the game, that plan goes out the window.

best way of playing the game is having a reliable forward or two..
and a swarm going on around the park... BOTH WAYS!!!

see freos hands and faces at whoever has the ball... and port did the same
enormous group pressure..freo and port very good at getting numbers back...
juddy and our blokes dont do that wel...

its a flower team defensive and attacking effort

its the swarm.. and retain the ball when you have it
stop kicking it to a contest ... collingwood got bent over doing that last night..

we better have learnt..!!!

play the swarm...!!..L ike last week!!

the ony change i would have made is Lucas in for Casboult..

We dont need to tag Ellis, just stop kicking to him....and Chaplin.
Last nights game clearly demonstrates again that if you let the opposition continually mark your kicks, you'll lose.
Lets see how he goes chasing a forward up the ground and chasing him back into space. Play the game to our strengths!
Forget the kicking down the line bullshit or kicking into the defendable pocket. We need overlap running, peeling off into the corridor and the courage to hit up our forwards in the corridor or on the fatside.

When we've played that footy, we outplay Richmond. When we play safe, predictable footy, they pick us off (as do most teams) and smash us on the transition.

Oh and the best way of making mileage without losing the ball is use the running game like in the NFL to move the ball forrward.
You can play the passing game... but its thwart with danger.. and interceptions.. or they use the runing backs etc...
The trick is to keep those downs ticking over...

handball and run...
and if you have a teammate on you need to find him....
That means no static players in the side..

an emphasis on recruiting should also be guys that can mark under pressure.... our blokes as geerally crap above ther heads...

constant movement.. short sharp leads .. and a heap of running and swarming

i thought we did that very well last week in the second half.
collingwood did in patches but generally they bombed the ball to their talls
i also was interested in the spoils to advantage defenders were doing all weekend
defenders spoiling down to defensive crumbers ....

Loving it!!!

agreed!!!

Lets get them ut of position and run the ball at them.. when that happens teams and defences shit themselves.

But we need a team defensive effort too...

Cant just do it one way...

freo were impressive yesterday

biggest thing I noticed was the way they stand up in a contest while dishing off quality ball by either hand or foot. Finals footy.

this is why Judd has been such a great finals player. However, if he is not fit then don't play him. Need others to stand up.

Tuohy looks like a finals player to me. Hopefully, he can have a big impact today.
