I agree Syd. It is a bit of a gamble if he's not better than 80%, but a gamble worth having. If we can be within a couple of goals by half time, they'd be in a tad of trouble.

Our only chance is if we throw out the play book and make a comeback similar to the one last week. Risk after risk coming off.

If it comes down to systems and which team has theirs in order we don't stand a chance.

Go and suck lemons....you've been negative all year....how can you enjoy watching footy? etc etc....

I soooooooooooooo hope you & I are wrong....

(& said they've lightened off since)

MM basically admitted on 360 tonight that the primary focus of the MC is picking a side to best nullify the oppositions strengths.

That was highly alarming to me to be honest.

We clearly don't have the right balance between defence and offence. Furthermore, our 'process' and defensive capabilities are no better than average.

Focus on defence all you like but you must have consideration for the playing personnel's capability to execute. In addition, you would want to be a very good defensive side if that is the primary focus. We are not.

No wonder we have been average thus far this year.

All that being said, release the shackles and smash the Tiges. We can be heavily defensive the week after.

Malthouse is playing funny buggers with their heads already.

He'll drum up the defensive side of our game plan as much as the media does or doesn't want to hear it. He's obviously not gonna come out and talk about where he thinks their weaknesses are.

That's what he will be hoping to exploit.

Talk about their strengths. And give nothing away.

We will not play injured players- Juddy, Chook and Scotto. No sentiment.
They will- Newman (How could you not etc etc) Jack- Greatest full forward ever etc etc

That is why we will win

All indications point to that being the case.

Hopefully it is still not enough and they got their calcs wrong but to me it looks like 2011. Them being us and us being the dons.

We are better than them head to head all things being equal but they got themselves into a spot where they could plan ahead and if that meant dropping a game (that last one against us) then so be it. If you re-watch that game you see they can hardly run, they had a horribly unbalanced side in and had no small players in their front half capable of holding the ball in.

It is not going to be easy for the Blue boys this week. Hoping for a miracle.

Are they that good?
We could have easily pinched round 1.
our new gameplan last 2 quarters then changed to the old and almost won.
We.made them look invincible a few weeks ago ... then the tables turned
I have no idea just excited for finals

Hendo isn't fit. I just can't see us winning the contested ball. Tigers by 23 points

We have too many players that had no pre-season or missed too many games during the year or are carrying injuries into the game. It catches up with you in September. And Malthouse conceded on Fox tonight that we don't have a settled side. I'd go further and say we don't have a settled game style.

It hurts me to say it, but the Tigers have got their shit together more than we have this year. I'm not saying I rate them as a premiership threat. I'm saying that Hardwick has been building his side over a number of years. They are good enough to win an Elimination Final against a side that battled to register 11 wins and can't work out how it wants to play. We staggered over the finishing line to make the finals, while they have always looked like making it this year.

I draw some comfort from the fact they are likely to get smashed the following week by a genuine top 4 side and that we should be a better team next year after another off season of renovations....

I pray that I'm wrong, but I think it will get ugly on Sunday. Tigers by plenty, sadly :banghead:

Looking at that game footage again, Simpson saved the match by colliding with Broadbent as he kicked, forcing the ball to go left and hit the post.

I hadn't seen the footage of that final piece of play from that angle, not sure if Simpson got to Broadbent, but he certainly applied some pressure and Broadbent would have known he was there abouts, it was a magnificent defensive pressure act by Simpson.
