Reckon Bootsma and McInnes can't play in the same side and it's going to be an interesting issue to resolve over the next couple of years..

Bit early in their careers to say that. On what basis?

At this stage, both are quintessential third talls and not much else. For both to play at the same time, they both need another string to their bow. It's feasible that McInnes could become a second key defender in the Rance mould, or be able to play on the small forwards. Not quite as confident of seeing Bootsma play on the small forwards, so would have to see him either be able to successfully pinch hit forward or develop a tank to go into the midfield, perhaps as a wing man.

If it goes to shit like it did earlier today with Bootsma on Riewoldt, you run the risk of either sacrificing a working match up with McInnes, play Bootsma out of position up forward, or you use your sub earlier than you want to. For the time being, as neither are at a stage in their development to expect them to evolve into those roles I mentioned earlier, you probably can't play them both (for now), unless I've grossly underestimated the amount of teams who play more than one mid sized forward week in week out.

If you're getting at what I think you are getting at, I agree.

An entire rebuild isn't necessary though. There are lots of building blocks there as long as the development is done correctly, as long as Rogers continues on from 2012, as long as we don't trade the earth for a star to settle the nuffy fans, as long as MM is surrounded with better assistants, as long as the board got a clue.

Harley has shit for brains but he made a good point which seems to get lost so often by Carlton supporters - clubs are able to replenish their list and still challenge for the premiership AT THE SAME TIME.

Look at Geelong and Sydney.

I have always said that but you have to start from a reasonably solid base and not all clubs have that. For us, it depends on what you define as a (complete) rebuild. We most likely won't be winning a GF with Judd and Waite so you might as well refer to whatever transpires as a rebuild. No one is suggesting tanking so I don't know what point some posters are trying to make.

I also wouldn't give Rogers' 2012 the stamp of approval just yet and so far it's just an influx of two players. Even Hughes has probably had a year in which two first year players debuted. It's hardly earth shattering list building. You also have to work out where your priorities are. Are you in it for success or for show?

nice work Marcou. Had the no.34 on my jumper when I was a kid too

Won't waste any energy on the wasted chanes to make the finals this year. We're still a chance despite having "blown" about 4 chances to sew up a spot. It's all about the future now:

Gibbs. Been potting him for ages, BUT.......today when given a role of hunting the ball, he was superb. Mick will have taken note and surely Gibbs must be the hunted from now on. He was extremely creative and cool under pressure. On today's form he should be untouchable.

Thouhy had another great game and is a massive long bomb for goal :smoking: This bloke will be in our top 6 in no time the way he's going.

Mitch had a ripper game. Just keep bringing that and he'll stay on the list. Thought Knockers was really good - yes his taps don't always go to our guys, but we did win the clearances, and he gave a bit around the ground. He and Kreuz should be our two rucks, but Hammer's trade value is minimal, so maybe they will still offer one of the two if they're chasing the young Lug from GWS.

Murph a big improvement, not back to best but showed something. Levi gave a contest and again managed to hit the scoreboard. He gets the nod over Rowe at the moment, but maybe give Rowey one full pre season to improve his tank and strength - after all he did go through a sh#tload last year. He CAN take a grab and is a nice kick which Levi ain't.

Menzel is that goal kicking HFF that we've been mising since well.......Clape or can't recall who else ?????

Graham certainly didn't look out of place, his kicking wasn't always too good, but he seemed very nervous early. Certainly a ball magnet, and has a lot of the Paul "Molly" Meldrums about him

This win meant a lot to Mick, as you could see in the box. Don't write the old bloke off just yet

Captain's best game for some time.
Apart from his obvious talent love Menzel's willingness to tackle and have a crack. Kid could be anything.
Simpson ... what can you say? Superstar. And to think he was getting potted early in the season.
Bell needs good run at it. Gets caught too often but there could be something there.
Curnow flying & Army finding touch again.
Welcome back Robbo.
Jamo. Brock
And Gibbs influencing a game ...

We need to learn from this game. Malthouse and the players.
Our season is still alive and our players are good enough!! I can't say that enough.
We just need to believe and have the right structure, especially in the midfield.
Go Gibbsy!!!!

130 posts in 180 minutes.

Not all supporters live on the Internet posting about their hopes and fears and insecurities. The people who post here are the minority.

thought Graham acquitted himself really well.

Loved Menzel's attack

Those two grabs of Casboult show what might be.

Thank God for Michael Voss!

Would love to look at Cotchin's GPS figures. I don't reckon he put in today. I reckon Curnow could have played another half of footy.

Had a feeling Casboult would play ok after seeing him at training yesterday. Trained very, very well. Gotta persist with that forward line for the next couple of weeks.

I am glad we won BUT theres a few things that still bother me and it has been same promblem aa year.Opposition scoreing easy goals with there open fwd line,, how many times do we kick straight to opp,, bombing the ball to contest,, we never have players that lead directly to the kicker(always contest or over the top or angle),,the long bomb from fullback,,.I say again change the game plan watch hawthorn how they do it.SO bring on preseason .

In the context of whether he plays CHB or forward, rather than in the team at all.

Yet, some years back, Waite was abused on here from pillar to post for doing exactly the same thing.
