What's important to remember which discussing possible trades, is that Mick said in the podcast last week (paraphrasing) the club is trying to develop a list for longterm sustained success, not instant success.

Players like Jesse White etc IMO fall into the 'instant success' category. Which is why I don't see it transpiring.

To fit with the longterm success idea - I see us chasing young players who are deprived opportunity or homesick.

FWIW, not a single Carlton player features in the Under-23 All-Australian team

(not even in the "desperately unlucky" bit)

Yeah. A bit sad I guess.

That will change in the next couple of years when we start recruiting and turning over our list again.

Don't care for the awards nor the pats on the back. Just get us a team that wants to win.

Thank !@#$%& you have no say in our recruiting/trading RSM.

Jesse White has played 4 good games in his AFL career. To suggest we should sway him for a 22 year old Yarran is farcical IMO.
As for not needing Betts, lets see if Buckley can actually get a game before throwing away our most consistent forward of the past 5 years.

We've just dragged ourselves down to a pretty ordinary level suggesting to get rid of everyone for anything.

Most of those names suggested are borne from frustration rather than sense or knowledge.

White & Gumbleton?

Can't be right???? :?

What about Watson, Davies, Buckley, Bootsma, Mitchell etc?

Yarran, what about Yarran?

People don't understand how good our list is! :banghead:

I blame Mick.

Bump.

I posted this about a week ago. In light of the AFL website Under 23 All Australian team (no Carlton), thought it was worth another look...

Siegfried wrote:
I did a little exercise. I looked at the players at each club (except the two news clubs) to see what their young stocks were like, and to compare them to ours. I picked a random cut off of being 23 years of age as of today (7 Aug). That is, if they turned 24 yesterday, they didn't make the list. Close cut offs at Carlton were Kreuzer, Garlett and Laidler. There were plenty at other clubs, obviously.

I've put the list in club ladder order. I've picked out 5 who I think are or are among the best of each club (in red), then listed significant others. I know more about the kids at some clubs than others (interstate clubs I haven't seen play a lot), so you may have different (and more accurate) assessments of each club's kids, but that wasn't really the point of the exercise. It was more to get an idea of what each club has coming through, how it's going to be placed in 5 years, whether there are a core of kids to build a club around. Quite frankly, for us, it makes depressing reading. Every club above us, and many below, have significantly better kids on their list than we do. Not good when you're currently sitting 9th on the ladder...

I've been very impressed with Jamie Elliott at C/wood who is only 20....goes in hard; takes a mark; and is an opportunistic goalkicker at only 175cm.

Ditto

Goes to show that size does count.
The kid has a huge heart and a necer say die attitude.
Has obviously put in the hard yaards from a young age and goes in hard too.

We've got a few like that too...I just can't think of them now...oh yeah Ellard, but he's a bit older than Elliot.

We need quality kids.

If we can get 1st & 2nd picks for guys like Yarran, Hampson, Warnock, Lucas, Laidler, Garlett, Jamison, McLean I would jump at it.

We need 4-5 draft picks inside the top 25 if possible. Another 2-3 after that and a full group of new rookies.

If we can add 2-3 quality players under 23 even better through trade then great.

This is what we have to do because we haven't done anything for years.

Would love to be able to get 6 picks in the first 4 round rounds.

But it would probably end up like:

Livingston (4), Sporn (11), Wiggins (15), Campbell (31), O'Keeffe (46) & Beasy (61).

If we are seriously going to rebuild our list I wouldn't being going after Daisy Thomas.

We need quality kids.

Early draft picks essential.

If we do chase anyone from other clubs they have to be names like Dixon, Walker, Sinclair, Adams etc who are young and ready to step up.

Unfortunately that has been an issue. Not sure what other options we have?

Adelaide or Collingwood dont either.
But i know what you mean, not alot of good young kids at present on our list.

Agree. Very few mature age players make sense. I would like us to confront the fact it will take 3 drafts to turn the ship around. Keep hands off the mature age unless its an outstanding deal and pick kids. See what we get in 12 months and sprinkle experience in the following few years

THIS....

Plus we need the extra picks to get the 2-3. Our odds haven't been the greatest in the past :donk:

I reckon the first 3 names are right and a massive chance to go, Best value is Yarran. Hampson and Warnock won't go for much, a pick 40 or so?

Maybe we need to upgrade our picks and hope we make value with them? It would help to clear out some players as well.

Eg - Warnock and pick 40 for pick 15.

Some people or clubs never learn. Here's a question, were did the last lot of early draft picks get us?
I guess if you keep rebuilding, sooner or later you might just strike it lucky with a couple of gems.
