This was the strong mail early in the year and then he went and signed a 1 year extension

has the capitulation and injury changed his mind.. again?

time to go digging

Wonder if we're any under obligation to promote Bell to the senior list at the end of the year as per negotiations last year.

Sheahan also said last week Yarran wouldn't play for the rest of year. He's clueless.

Bell was nominated before the Sydney game as elevated rookie (using the midyear rule) as he was named emergency. The next day he broke his jaw in the VFL vs Casey. Saturday was his third game back from injury. Should be a chance for selection this week.

Ellard BOG in the NB.
Bell in the best several weeks running now.
Casboult ditto.
Robbo played well.
Lucas too.

I think Casboult is safe because he is a much better mark and ruck than Rowe and will play footy for us as the ruck fwd. Rowe has been crap in the air for three weeks now and Casboult took 13 marks, 7 contested this week. Bell should stay IMO on a 1 year contract. Ellard is tricky. He is probably behind McLean and there really isn't a spot for him with Cachia and Curnow both doing their jobs. I think he will be a casualty. I think Robbo is in trouble because he has had a few sprays from Mick and they didn't seem to make a difference.
Lucas will be OK.

If I was Judd I would too.
Simply not enough reasons to play on.
Already wealthy, future set, young family, getting sore, team on the decline....nah, think I'll give it a miss lads.

....and sails off, into the sunset.

If he does he is soft.

According to Verbs, anyway.

Soft, accomplished and wealthy. I could live with myself.

Would free up a little room in the coffers for a bit of Daisy action.

Getting Dale Thomas would do wonders for Murphy's leadership.

Ellard is out of contract but is highly thought of around the club. Mick is a fan.
Bell is onto the senior list next year as per the advice out of CFC. Think he has a two year contract but could be wrong.
Casboult is contracted and required. Won't be moving anywhere.

Lucas is out of contract and have not heard of anything yet suggesting that we're desperate to maintain him.
Robinson is still in contract but could be a causality this year should we get the right deal.
Cachia can stay as a rookie so no-brainer keeping him on.
Curnow is an interesting one though. Has served maximum time on the rookie list and will need to be upgraded. What to do?

Opinion only:
First to be de-listed will be Davies, Mitchell, Joseph, Duigan, Collins and Dale. No currency in any of those players unfortunately.
Out of contract and would need to be looked at: McCarthy, Laidler, Buckley and White. O'Keeffe will be tough to keep as an upgrade would have to be effected.
Retirement: Scotland and possibly Judd.

That doesn't even take up currency-worthy players we may slate for trading. Going to be a big off-season, isn't it?

If the AFL is steadfast in wanting to cap the interchange, then that will change the sort of players you can carry on your list.

Agree especially re Casboult.

We all have such short memories.
I remember the game against the drug cheats earlier this year. He was awesome till he ran out of steam at the end ( he wasn't on his own).
Reckon it's purely a fittness issue. His upside over Rowe is massive. Which is why i'm flabbergasted Rowe got an extra 2 years.

Nothing against the guy...but what were they thinking :screwy: :screwy: :screwy:

Thought it was 3yr extension, this year on the rookie list and upgraded next year onto the senior list (traded elsewhere).

Judd can play another 3 years easy if we can re invent him.

Need to look at other options ... half forward, half back.

Way too young to retire ... way too much to offer.

..re: judd - yes he has slowed a touch, but i still think he [and looking at our list] is still our best option for hard working inside mid.. ..and by a fair margin as well.. .... ..i know MM isn't a fan of leaving all the hard grind to one or two players, and is a big pusher of shared workload.. ..but our list is where it is at the moment.. ..if we wanna be strong inside the stoppage we need Judd racking up the minutes inside.. ..or [looking longterm] we blood the next batch of mids inside, and take the short term pain to develop those that can get close to Judd's inside work..

These players should be our focus over the trade period:

1. Jesse White (power forward, big body we need)
2. Scott Gumbleton (after White, the next best option)
3. Jack Watts (could be reinvigorated under MM as a forward)
4. Dale Thomas (see Watts)
5. Tait Pears (Will support Jamo, as Watson under question and McIness/White undersized)

I would offer to trade:

1. Yarran (swap to White)
2. Betts (don't need him as we have Buckley)
3. Lucas (could get something good)
4. Hampson (he and 206 could be traded to a number of clubs)
5. Warnock (see Hampson)
6. Curnow (have many player like him - McLean/Cachia/Ellard/Carrots)
7. Robinson (could get something, lack of polish an issue)

I would delist:

1. Laidler (MM does not rate)
2. Duigan (see Laidler)
3. McCarthy (times up)
4. Mitchell (times up)
5. Davies (times up)
6. Casboult (can't have AFL players who cannot kick)
7. Joseph (times up)
8. Collins (R)
9. O’Keefe (R)
10. Dale (R)

I would retire:

1. Scotland
2. Waite

Thank @#$%&! you have no say in our recruiting/trading RSM.

Jesse White has played 4 good games in his AFL career. To suggest we should sway him for a 22 year old Yarran is farcical IMO.
As for not needing Betts, lets see if Buckley can actually get a game before throwing away our most consistent forward of the past 5 years.

@ RSM.

Like the theory even if I don't agree with the names.

I was keen for White last year as he has a lot of potential and we could of got him cheap. Probably around 4th round. Now he will cost a lot more. If we could get him around a third round yes, if not its a tough call and I think you will find he will go to Fremantle.

4 of your 5 picks are talls. The issue is with signing Rowe & Watson we will really start to get top heavy and I believe our biggest issue is genuine midfielders.

Betts is gone and Waite will play on. Not sure Curnow would be worth anything.

Laidler will either be traded or stay. Not someone you'd delist.

If we can get one genuine tall defender or forward (not a wrap for Gumbleton or Pears) and 2-3 quality mids supported by good young draft picks (all mids) I will be happy.

I am more and more confident we are getting the development structures in place to get the best our of our players.
