Lets try and restrict this conversation to Malthouse and what he has done to/with the current list.

We could go round and round for hours (and indeed we already have on Ratten). We will always disagree on this point ... so lets move on.

IMO he has damaged the playing list.I am happy to argue with my assessment of where the players are right now as I described earlier.

Ratten is gone ... its the Tricky Micky Malthouse show ... for better or worse.

He hasnt damaged the list yet - but I'm tipping after our last game this season he will cut a swathe through it.

Dumb thread. The playing group like the coach, the staff like the coach, the board likes the coach, the coteries like the coach, the coach likes coaching and I like the coach. Those that don't either expected a quick fix or believed the silly PR stunt this club carries on with every year by saying where on the ladder it's going to finish.

I just hope that people won't whinge and moan when the coach removes the likes Laidler, Hampson, Mitchell, Scotland, Davies, Duigan, Collins and Joseph. No point crying over dead wood. That'd be about $1million bucks saved right there.

Most of the young kids who matter have improved, the ones that haven't weren't upto it last year either

Watson huge improvement
Hendo huge improvement
Lucas solid up lift
Garlett much better
Kruz much better

Robo backwards but it was inevitable this would happen with his poor skills

Yarran no change he was horrible last year except for first few rounds

The reason we have struggled this year is simple

Murphy injured
Judd ageing
Carazzo ageing and injured

Those three in 2011 masked all our issues

Wave a magic wand and return those 3 to 2011 form and we would easily be in the 8

Bullcrap - a good team (like say a Geelong or Sydney) would have quality depth of midfielders who could come in to play these roles and not miss a beat.

Dont blame our lack of success this year because 3 players were injured.

Wave a magic wand by all means - but wave it to have a proper depth of mid-fielders in our list.

Correct ratten and co had no depth as such as I said those 3 masked our issues

Ratten and co should be convicted of gross list mis management

Thank Christ mm is here to fix it

If u think we would of done anything in 2011 without those three you are kidding yourself

Which players like him?

The ones that he criticize publically?
The ones he constantly blames for his short coming of a game plan?
The ones that might be delisted or traded?
The ones that play a decent attacking game that they actually have a chance of winning?
The ones he has given opportunity to?
The ones he drops after one half of a game?
The ones he plays out of position?
The ones he has sucked the confidence out of?
Or the ones that he just plainly says aren’t good enough?

That’s right the master is building character?

No doubt MM has made a big fat mess of things ... but we are stuck with him unfortunately.

Bottom line is we could have Ratts, MM, Lyon and Tirdy as coaches until the Prez, board, recruitment team and list management issues are sorted we will continue to go round the merry go round.

We need a make over, real quick or we will become just like the Demons, plugging holes on a sinking ship, quick fixes, sack the coach, bring in Daisy, nothing matters until we sort out the top end. Fish rots from the ......

Synbad is correct.

No use delaying the inevitable... rather have this season than fool ourselves with another first week finals exit

Let's do it right this time... no more hb flankers, no more giving up good picks for hacks, no more players that can't kick

Where did i mention Duigan?

So you disagree with my points and approve of Micks methods.

The way he criticizes his players in public?
The way he went about picking the captain?
His game plan?
His defensive tags and lack of flair and run that the team is playing?

I didn’t excuse Ratten and I’m sure not going to excuse an egomaniac that is hell bent of making a mockery of his players.

I notice that another jobs for our mates coach has been sacked, no experience , no apprenticeship, [REDACTED] up their list. Bne lions supporters are glad to get rid of him . And he is one of their own although the players are performing.
Get a brain or do not comment on football matters, Go and play chess or dominoes or even candy crush, better still stick to ludo.
No idea.
And the coaches that have done an apprenticeship under an experience coach are performing, some above expectation.

Yes I have noticed your posts you’re a Micky supporter.
Too bad that might be blinding your perception of our game plan and his obsolete manner.

People need to seriously get over Ratten.

He had 5 years (including Judd in his prime between 2008-2011 and a two time Coleman medalist at FF for the first 2 years) and the best he could do was 5th. He left us with a list that is physically and mentally soft, with little key position or other genuine talent coming through

Mick came in THINKING he knew where the list was at, and HOPING he could turn things around.
He know KNOWS EXACTLY where we re at and will act accordingly.

Some people might ve been happy to keep floating along between 5tjh-8th, making token finals appearances most years, but I wasn't. Ratten couldn't take us that next step, and that's why he was let go.
Whether Sticks and co hired Mick for instant success is irrelevant. Deep in our hearts, we all knew our list was never good enough to win a flag.I'm happy to take a step back this year, have the list assessed by a proven successful coach, and do what needs to be done to get success.

I wasn't a huge Ratten fan but he was ousted at the first hurdle and never given the chance to take the next step.

Five years as a rookie coach and taking the team of young and mentally weak players to three finals series from where he received that team was a pass mark, not great but be deserved another year and to be treated with more understanding and cohesion.

Malthouse has coached for close to thirty years, if you stay long enough in the same place and turn over players and assistants you are bound to come close to success. Malthouse did SFA at Collingwood since 2003 so let’s not over romanticize his ability.

Malthouse is a master of taking ideas off his assistants and taking credit. Before the change over Collingwood was just average and in the last twoyears of his contract things happened.

Was it him or Buckley and the others?

By the looks of it Malthouse needs innovative and fresh assistants he can siphon from, instead he’s got Green (as a midfield coach), Barker as a (forward coach) and Capuano as (development coach).

How are we going in those departments and have we seen any improvement in those areas this year?

Make up your own minds or excuses.

Lost the prelim in 2007 to the Cats by less than a goal (and IMHO, would've beaten PA in the GF) but let's not have facts cloud the argument
