we can do a rebuild if we don't get ICKEd again with ridiculous decisions like trading up a pick 24 for a ruckman that was already in the system and had shown nothing at the expense of the large midfield talent pool available with that same pick.

Our club has no problem paying mega bucks to sacked coaches and mega bucks to over rated CEO's but can't find the coin to build a top recruiting team.

I want to see something tangible with Malthouse ... something of progress ... something different ... something brave ... Ratten turned Walker into a plus 50 goal 3rd forward and Yarran into a running back that was starting to resemble Andrew Mcleod.

Malthouse has flipped these players around and I can't see why ... maybe for his ego ??? ... doesn't want to copy Rattens team to escape scrutiny for no changes ???

Yarran often got badly exposed, I see it as a good move from Malthouse it's just that Yarran hasn't responded.
I do agree with Walker though.

Who badly exposed Yarran ???

Who kicked a bag on him ???

And if did ... how regular ... one would expect hiccups along the way.

Opposition coaches used to drag him back to the last line of defence because of their concern ... we never had a plan B to counteract that.

When the ball got loose he was good but one on one and his ability to stick to his man was not great. If he could improve those aspects then I'm all for it.

I actually think we miss Alan Richardson from the coaching panel.

I think we will learn that the guy who should of replaced Ratts was sitting under our noses.

One on One in the air ... not so great ... ball hit the ground ... he was great.

We miss that spark the run gave ... only needed others to peel off better ... those runs lit up Carlton supporters ... we kick the ball out of defence now ... the best teams run it out.

Stuff the Bummers......we're the ones bringing the game into disrepute with such insipid play. Absolutely no heart by any of them. The thing is these softc0cks don't know any better. This is the culture they've inherited and they think it's the norm.

A culture of not caring begun and fostered by the likes of Fevola, Fatnall, Stevens, Campo etc

A culture of downhill skiing, little tackling and wilting at the first sign of pressure. The sad thing is this doesn't just occur against the top clubs but the 5hittier clubs.

I was watching Open Mike when he had Dermott Brereton on and they were talking about the line in
the sand game.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Until we have our own such game against the big teams - we will always be walked over.

The other thing I don't understand is why MM doesn't make more changes on a weekly basis. Was this the year of examining the list? Well give them a go in the seniors for a few games to see how they perform at the top level.

And be aggressive at the trade table ffs.

feel exactly the same way, but I also feel with hindsight, we will see this as further damning evidence that our club is run by self-interested muppets

Wallsy's commentary on Carlton this year has been a long way from objective, he is still taking every chance to pot Malthouse due to his belief that Ratten should still be coaching the team.

Lost at selection. We were in no position to respond to any injury at all and our midfield, not a strength in recent weeks, was found wanting.

Not advocating Robinson's retention but to lose 2 mids and replace with 2 forward flankers and 1 defensive flanker really set the scenes. With murph down we had nothing from the middle.

Bell & Graham should have been in . Not saying this would have changed the outcome but those 4 inclusions really did set the scene for a slow forward line / meek midfield.

He raised these points;

1. Why are we playing 3 midfielders (Simmo, Walker & Gibbs) back when we are screaming for midfielders.
2. Why aren't Duigan and Laidler playing to release them.
3. Why did we not play Yarran back and let him play the game he showed he's best in.
4. Why not play Walker forward!
5. Why are we so defensive through the middle.

He just said a lot that we have, well atleast I have been saying.
Found it interesting indeed but Wallsy being an ex-legend coach & player wouldn't know anything.

Apart from Simmo the other two have rarely played midfield? When they have they have been not much better than the others as far as value to the team goes.

Don't get me wrong. I have no love for Malthouse but I don't think its individuals and positions that is the problem. Its the mix. Its the team or lack of it that is the problem. The balance is stuffed.

Did Walls mention the extra tall being brought in to a team that already lacked run? That was pretty much tanking.

Also the long kicking game plan when the players aren't suited to that style.

Gone from 16th for long kicks in 2012 to 2nd this year.

Doesn't he realise we don't have two beacon forwards.

What a disaster.

Club, You and I will probably never agree on some of these points and that's fair enough but the selections last week pointed to these 3 or atleast 2 of these guys going back into the middle. It didn't happen and confused the hell out of me.

He did mention that he believes we cannot play the 3 aboriginal boys forward together and he did mention that he felt Hendo should not be moved back again, we cannot depend on Waite and must find an alternative and that Rowe probably isn't the answer. He did mention something about Warnock and Kruez as well but I feel I could be just grand standing if I went into that. It was amazing listening to him actually. I would have hugged him if he was in front of me. Doubt I would have gone that far though....

Also, Gibbs started playing midfield at the start of this year and then went back and we haven't seen in there again. Not good enough considering how he started this year. Simmo has played back this year for the 1st time and for mine we have missed so much run and attack it isn't funny. Walker well he best is everywhere. He is a star and I don't care were he plays to be honest because he can play everywhere. I would like to see him play foward/midfield but am willing to default on him as long as we have enough run further up the ground. My point being we cannot have 3 taggers in the midfield running behind opposition players. We don't get enough of our own acendancy and it seems someone like Wallsy agrees.

We need more onballers with quality. Still need good ones behind the ball too IMO. Wasn't overly impressed with Gibbs onball early. We just don't win when he plays there. Only once this year against GWS.

Some big trades this year to bring in more midfield quality + the unleashing of Bell and Graham next season should help.

I do agree with you that 3 tall fwds (inc resting ruck) will be great if it works but it will take a lot of changes before it works. We need more leg power for 120mins. Every position other than the 6 talls should be able to move into hard running positions at any time to share the load.
