Now which are our top liners and which are having career best form and which type are needed to win games?

More importantly were are our important attacking players played and for what purpose?

Looking back over your post you do make some valid queries on the game plan. Only thing I can say is if we are kicking to contested situations then this arguably is because our players are not running hard enough to get into space – have you seen Sydney play lately? Esp Hannerbery – see how hard he runs? We don’t have anyone who runs this hard – Yarran is the diametric opposite to Hanneberry.
Also, you query the fact we attack through the wings and then it is easy to open us up on the other side. Fair point but I think if you attack through the corridor you can get opened up on either side, which is more dangerous. It’s a commonly accepted rule of football that if you go up the corridor you take a chance and if it doesn’t come off you get crucified on the way back, opened up like a can of sardine.
There’s only so many ways to attack, it’s not rocket science, but if your players don’t run hard both ways you are screwed
Mick keeps saying the players need to work harder for longer to match the good sides and I haven’t seen anything this year to say he is wrong.

Playing kids doesn’t mean you are out to lose games.
You need the kids to get extended time so they get used to the tempo of the game and you don’t inject then all at once but you need to give them a few games on the trot as I mentioned before.

You need your best players to attack and provide run in midfield attacking roles not all tagging and defensive roles that is the reason why we kick to a contest and we haven’t got running mids.

We also don’t go deep enough and break down at half forward because of this reason so we are caught out of position on the turn over and the corridor is opened (which is the quickest avenue to goal) and the defence is put under extreme pressure. This is the reason we get scored against so easily, or we go deep in pockets which doesn’t assist our goal scoring efficiency.

Take a look at our players they are devoid of an attacking flare. They are predictable and hardly ever attack through the middle which makes your ball movement so much faster. Attacking in this manner gives you a higher chance of catching the defence out of position giving you the advantage and an open forward line with attacking options.

It gives you greater flexibility in where and how you lead and stretching the opposition in your options. The direction you bring the ball in not only gives you better options to attack but gives you a straighter direction to the goal mouth which gives you a higher chance of scoring a goal, and we all know the problems we have had in this department.

Malthouse is too defensive and by this doesn’t give us a chance to win. Yes we will beat average sides but we need to put the pressure on the better sides if we are to improve and climb the ladder.
Defence is certainly an important aspect of our game but if you don’t score and inflict score board pressure you won’t beat the better teams and the way we are set up at the moment we are making it harder for ourselves.

I'd challenge you by throwing in Lucas and Garlett and Walker.

I'd also argue Curnow has had a "career best" year.

The unfortunate thing is the Tuohys, Lucas, Garletts and Curnows are not the match winning top line talent (though arguably Lucas should be). Walker is, and he *has* made a difference.

Because the Murphys, Carrazzos, Gibbs', Kreuzers (except for maybe the last 2-3 weeks), Betts, Yarrans and others have either not been there or not produced when they have been there, it's an indictment on where things are at.

Who are you..... and what have you done with Gary Ayers??

A Collingwood fan of mine, who is a fanatic by the way, and whose football knowledge is second to none, says we are in good hands. He made a good point that if ninth is bottoming out, then it is not that bad – I mean look at the ladder, we are in the middle, and this is most likely us bottoming out.
If we emerge from this with a list the coach knows has the mettle, and we pick up some more talent and fill some gaps, then with an extra off season bedding in the game (possibly tweaked, as Mick has always shown he is big enough to make changes … or Mick doubters would you rather he be inflexible?), and bedding in the cultural mind set, then surely the only way forward is up
If we are worse than ninth this time next year then I will be the first one to say we have problems

Hi Sugar,

I hope you're right about 9th being our bottom.

Personally, I'm very worried about 2014 and beyond.

Currently I consider North, Adelaide, West Coast and Brisbane likely to finish above us next year, with Gold Coast and even the Bulldogs possibilities.

The North rumour has been circulating for a couple of months on BF.
10 players is a big cleanout, wont happen though.

Will happen...go to the list. It really isn't that hard to delete 10.

Reckon that's just the senior list too.

Throw in at least 2, probably 3 from the rookie list as well.

Yep, you could be right.

We can try to get rid of ten but who would want 10 of them?

That's the dilemma.

Delist 5. Trade another 5. Probably have to be bigger names that most on the list above.

Betts, Yaz, Jamo, Robo, Hampson, Laidler, Warnock and Duigan would have value. Get a new mix of players together a build a team capable of taking us to the top.

Can't see us winning too many more games this year with this sort of news going around though.

I think RoK will be kept. Appeared to be in Mick's plans over Pre-season until injury struck. He isn't on much money and is a mature body with great foot skills.

Interesting last point club and one that really got up my goat when MM announced to all and sundry what he was going to do with the our playing group. We flower never learn and have no idea how to get value for our players.
