Can't believe all you people saying Squibbs played a great game. He is one of the laziest, gutless, over-rated players ever to pull on a navy jumper. Doesn't run hard the other way, rarely puts his body on the line, and every time he should sacrifice his position or possession for the greater good he does the selfish thing. His inability to chase and pressure allowed them 2 coast to coast goals tonight. He should be our biggest trade bait at the end of the year.

Yep. Can think of two instances tonight where Gibbs gave up goals as he didn't do the team thing, or made it someone elses' problem (getting run down and the hospital handpass to Murphy without even giving him support either).

Have stayed out the debate, as can see the importance in both but tonight the points went to midfield. Easily.

Name Freo's above average tall forwards that won the game for them tonight......

Is this a football competition between 18 AFL clubs or is it all about trying to sort out what Carlton can turn a blind eye to? Does the wind change on our most recent loss?

Not turning a blind eye to any types of players. Just yet to see an example of a top side with a poor midfield, but I've seen a few with only slighty above average tall forwards.

Reality is we could do with everything except for Ruckman, HBFlankers and taggers.

The use of Gibbs concerns me. Not just tonight. I still think a player of his skill should be the one hunted and not the hunter. He did a pretty good job on Maine but why should his effectiveness be measured by the effectiveness of his man?
When can he be allowed to be the one making the play and breaking free to do his thing? Was he recruited at #1 to be a tagger?
He was picked to play midfield but he has never been payed there. It isn't as blatant a mistake as picking Livo as a CHF and then trying to make him a FB but it's still a waste of a talent IMO.

Put Gibbs where the footy is and let him run amok. If he can't do it, his prodigious talents will just never come to the surface.

I despair at out midfield. Tonight's display just highlights a problem we have had all year and will take forward unless we have a change of personnel
Judd is almost shot. Still gets a few touches but they aren't as effective as they were and his defensive work is pretty ordinary. Stays
Murphy is about half the player he was two seasons ago. Has to stay but shouldn't be captain.
Robbo isn't fast enough to think through a situation and tends to blast the ball anywhere. Possible out.
Curnow is a gut runner but doesn't hurt the opposition enough when he gets the footy. Possible out.
Cachia ditto. Still early days for him so I would keep him in.
Carazzo used to get his lazy 25-30 a week and shut down someone as well but he doesn't do it any more. Stays but isn't getting any younger.

The season is shot and even if we manage to play finals through some miracle, we would exit in the first week.

I would like to try Bell, Armfield and Touhy in the midfield rotations and put maybe Bootsma in to replace Touhy down back. Or someone else. I would give Scotland a farewell game and thank him for his services and tell him to retire or play in the twos. He will probably go at the end of the year anyway. Try a couple of newbys who are playing well in the twos up forward or in the midfield rotations.

The debate between Rowe/Casboult/Hampson/Warnock has to be decided and implemented. Tonight showed that we need someone better than Rowe up front. I prefer Casboult.

Garlett is the best of the small forwards. Let Eddie go before Garlett. I am a Yarran fan and think he will turn out OK.

A disappointing last quarter tonight. Lets try something new to carry us forward to the end of the year and into next.

That's the issue isn't it....can't see us even going close with Hendo and one of Rowe/Casboult. Need another above average tall forward to partner Henderson.

Beaten by a better side. Thought we played ok for 3 quarters and ran out of legs in the last.
Made some silly mistakes that cost goals.
Simmo was good again as was Touhy.
Yarran had a shocker as did Betts, wonder if the contract talks has ruined his season.

Agree gents...agree. Rowe was ok in the ruck s a back up...we just got monster everywhere else. Any chance we can support each other, shepherd, bump ...Crowley for starters.... And a few other 1%ers?..... No....okay...maybe next year.

Funny, I was thinking about Watts, watching the Giants Dees match tha afternoon. Not sure he would add anything more than what we already have

Back to reality. Last 3 weeks confirm we are, at best, middle tier. No way we will or deserve to make finals this year!! Ageing midfield, poor return from small fwds, and smashed in the contested ball and clearances.

Players' books were officially stamped tonight.

Fair enough but there seems to be those who think simply getting rid of all the dead wood and recruiting midfielders until the supply is completely exhausted is shrewd recruiting.

Yep, it just defies belief.

This was a massive game and we lacked everything from discipline through to skill at critical times and just rolled over.

What is more sobering is the reality that other clubs will see players like Yarran as potential bargains during trade week.

All bad.

I agree with that as well, which in turn means with Henderson out the backline we also need to find at least one more key defender..... :fight:

In the end to go all the way, we'll need them all.

carrazzo is done

robbo is trade bait

Carrots is done possibly......didn't we sign him to the end of 2015? Was this another list management error?

Not to mention the fact that not every midfielder we splurge on between now and whenever is guaranteed to make our midfield any better than it needs to be. We need to be a lot subtler than that.
