True but the Ross Lyon ultra defensive methodology hasnt won a premiership yet.
Geelong played an offensive corridor based game and they won 3 flags. Just because it works for one team doesnt neccesarily mean it work at another (As MM freely admits)
If we run more than 3 tags against the 14th placed team, its a disgrace.

It got the saints within a kick twice with inferior sides to there opponents

Inferior sides?
Go back and have a look at the amount of All Australian players running around for the Saints in those games.
No shortage of top shelf talent there.
Perhaps it was the stifling game style that contributed to their inferiority, not the personnel.

Let's give opportunities to our young players and give them the chance to demonstrate their abilities. No better week than this one.

I stand by fact Geelong and collingwood were much better sides in those years

No, you stand by your opinion.
That's a long way from it being fact.

The pies destroyed the saints that season as evidenced by the gf replay

And well the cats were a once in a generation side

Looks like clear skies for Saturday (though that can easily change beween now and then seeing as there's predicted rain on Sunday).

This ain't going to be easy!

I have a feeling Mick is happy with a settled side and I wouldn't expect he'll rush in Graham (or Menzel) when the season is still on the line. Robbo in for sure.

I also reckon he likes what he's seeing out of Watson, Jamison and McInnes down back (allowing for Henderson forward).

There's an argument to be made that Scotland should be the one to make way for Robinson. Scotland hasn't been a solid contributor since before the Bye. His last two weeks include a total of just 2 tackles, 3 clearances, 29 disposals of which 6 were clangers. His inside 50s are okay at 8, but his work in the back half of the ground isn't there with only 2 rebounds.

To me that suggests he's fading like a flower, and it might be a good idea to give him a spell and let Robinson take his place.

I'd be disappointed if Cachia made way. He is in form. Not only did he have an outstanding game against St Kilda, but in just 21% game time on Friday (about 20 minutes) he laid 5 tackles during the critical North Melbourne comeback. That was the fourth highest of any Carlton player, and equal 6th highest of anyone who played. On top of that, guess who is the highest tackler in the team for the season on an average per game (noting that he has played up to 5 games less than those around him). That's right, Jaryd Cachia. Followed closely by Curnow and Gibbs.

The guy is a determined machine, and we'd be loathe to remove him in my opinion.

Out: Scotland
In: Robinson

No, thats an opinion as well.
Hawthorn of the 80s were far superior IMHO.

You're not very good at this, are you?

Blues by 23 points.

Graham or/and Menzel should come into the side but who can tell what we will get this week from the super duper coach and the MC.

Thought something was missing the last 2 weeks....

Thought we'd hear more from you considering how much a) you loved bumping the first St Kilda game thread and b) how in the predictions thread you claimed that even as an optimist you couldn't see any way we could beat Nth due to - like St Kilda - how poorly we match up with them?

Well ... I have been traveling around overseas ... is that an excuse ... lol. Anyway the super duper coach did all he could to make us lose that match against North ... more good luck than good management. As far as St Kilda goes ... we did what we had to and just about what every other team has done except for that gigantic stuff up by our coach earlier in the year ... there now ... do you feel better.

If MM perserveres with Watson, Mcinnes and Jamo down back then I would love someone to sweep up after them. It seemed to me that last week, the roos pushed up and once the ball was over the top we were soundly beaten with Jamo and Watson out paced in the race back toward the goal....

With the competition closer than ever before you can argue that Geelong has done just as well. Can you imagine what damage that Geelong team would of done in the 80's??

Just saying....

I want to see Menzel in the side but with him, Yarran, Garlett & Betts we really are limited. Too many players that only play bit parts.

Between them they don't get the ball enough.

Really limits our options and rotations and a key reason we have led in games and lost.

We need 4 quarter players.

If only Yarran had the tank to be an integral part of the midfield rotation, you'd have room for a Menzel.

But I maintain that this is the time of year you want stability and your absolute best 22 out on the field. I think largely that's there right now with the exception an injured Waite and a returning Robinson.

If McInnes really does need that rest, is it possible to bring in Robinson for him?

Or does that upset the balance of the side too much? I'm really unfamiliar with Gold Coast's forward set up, so haven't got a clue if they're a tall or small set up.

Like to see:

B: Simpson Jamison Laidler
HB: Walker Watson Yarran

Foll: Kruezer Judd Cachia
C: Lucas Curnow Gibbs

HF: Garlett Henderson Duigan
F: Betts Rowe Murphy

Int: Tuohy McLean Carrazzo (Robinson)

Curnow & Cachia on Ablett & OMeara/Prestia
Duigan as a defensive HF on McKenzie and a bit of hardness. Breaks packs for smalls
Like to see Laidler back to assist Jamison & Watson
Yarran at HB and work
More mobile side in muggy, slippery conditions.
Touhy as part of midfield rotation and through fwd line. Conditions will suit.
Very possible Nathan Bock will be back for the Suns this week.

Graham and Laidler for Cachia and McInnes.

Robinson and Menzel close.
