Tuohy has been kicking a goal a game the past few weeks, last night he got two.

Malthouse has given him a bit of licence to push forward, Ratten on the other hand would allow Tuohy to dragged and tied down deep in defence. Malthouse allows players to use their strengths, soon Tuohy will start to run and carry a lot more.

There was even one point late in the last quarter where Watson pushed forward and was lurking near Walker at around 55 metres out, Watson only half heartedly asked for the ball, but at least Watson was in a position to cause some damage with his kick.

Ratten stifled flair and creativity out of all his non-favourite players, his philosophy was "give it to the champ"

Ratten didn't set out to stifle flair and Tuohy had to learn to defend as well as attack, as was the case with Yarran.

Probably did us a favour long term and it was great to see Yarran with 8 tackles last night. 8 real tackles.

Better to be on the winning side than the losing side. North fans are annoying.

Mids have too large a gap b/w the good & the bad performances. Last night was the ugly!

Dip my lid to Kreuzer who had a major impact on the result. Also to Watson who put in a very credible performance.

Hendo & Simmo were excellent again.

Nice to see 3 Amigos taking strong marks in the fwd line as well.

Get the feeling the team is frustrating the hell out of MM.....he will erupt soon...look out the volcanic fallout!

If lucas plays like that I am wrong about him. He took contested marks and must have had 6 tackles
Kruezer is a middle weight boxing heavy heavy weight. Huge effort and won the second half but he isn't a centre bounce ruck man.

One thing Mick has to work on is giving our players a method of locking the game down.
In the last, North was crowding our forward line, leaving their F50 open and haveing players run on to the ball kicked forward. We were left with Watson and Jamo back, giving us no chance.

Needed to have someone like Walker playing loose, someone who can chase and cut off leads.
If North man him up, bring someone else back to cover them, get their forward line as crowded as possible.
As it was we were sitting ducks.

Jamo did OK on Petrie one on one but his fumbling and poor disposal costs goals.

Yep, that's the issue. I actually don't agree with Doc that he's a bad player. I don't think he's a bad player. I think he's an ordinary player, an average player who's totally overrated by most Carlton supporters. He's this decade's Thornton. In a good team, he'd be third tall or a depth KPD. But we seem to build our defence around him because we think we somehow unearthed a hidden champion that no-one else saw. And yes, our defence isn't yet set up properly so that he gets the assistance he should. However, that's not our big problem. The big problem is his fumbling, poor decision making, and poor execution under pressure.

he is clearly better than Thornton

I think you are being a bit harsh

2 weeks ago this mob beat the Tigers by 10 goals at this ground. Yes we are not a top 4 side, but this was a very good solid win against a good side in a desperate game.

We had a lot of good players down and were able to guts it out. It beats the heck out of losing!

Very true SA blue, we need to keep having these types of wins, it builds character and that is what has been missing, anything you have to fight for has more meaning than something that comes easy, many people myself included have said that we are soft and mentally brittle, well for the last two weeks we haven't been, I know people will say but it was against shit sides, that doesn't matter it is all about willingness to get the job done in whatever way is required, you can't always win by ten goals and play party trick football, sometimes you just have to grind away.

I hope the players are starting to understand that a hard fought win is sometimes worth more than a ten goal cruise, and continue to develop the faith that they have started to show in each other in the last two weeks.

If he ever gets us to cut those out we're not that far away.

We give away 3-4 goals a week when we don't kill a contest in the goalsquare, midfielders not chasing their man into D50, poor tackles and silly free kicks

Spot on.

Highly frustrating to say the least.

that would be two weeks in a row then ? Sugar haters have gone quiet.....he's on the upward spiral. Watto has a way to go, but again he didn't miss many targets and those torps are HUGE. He's definitely one of those guys who will never tear it up in the ressies but if played in the seniors will improve.

Mil I admit to being one of those so called sugar haters, but having said that I thought he played one of his best game for the club, and that happened because he was prepared to work hard and commit himself totally instead of wanting to be a soft outside runner who only wants to do the flashy stuff, which incidentally he hadn't been that flash at.

Young Watson played a very good game last night and yes he made mistakes and at times looked slow, but most of the time he committed himself to the contest and was prepared to cop and give physical actions, he took a saving mark in the last quarter and given time in the seniors may turn into a solid AFL player, I don't think he will ever be a superstar but he showed a bit last night.

What a glorious morning.

Very little sleep but ran a PB in my 6km run this morning.

Now having a coffee in my Carlton mug reading the paper and TC.

Sure beats the Saturday mornings after our previous 4 Friday nights.

That game was a much much harder game than the saints game.

Still think we should have by 24+

Had a lot of players down last night including a fair few of our big names in the midfield and still won. To me that is a good sign of sharing the load. It's not all about C Judd anymore. I think he's entitled to an off game after what he's delivered to this club. On Jamo, I think he's been found out since Hendo has been moved forward.

This is your Grand Final and you couldn't get 40,000 to the game, you are the biggest bunch of irrelevant cock suckers this side of the Pecos.

So piss off and field a team in the VFL where even Port Melbourne and Williamstown would draw a bigger crowd then you bunch of flogs.

Nice one from Brad Scott. Says he didn't see Tuohy toe-poke Ziebell's leg injury, but.."Zach's probably lucky we're not playing in the 70s."

Pretty sure a 90kg Irish man could handle himself OK.

And Scott needs a new whinge, as he trotted this one out after the Harvey/Crowley affair.

Brad Scott might want to grab hold of his brother and drop in on Nick Reiwolt and ask him if they did any long term damage to his shoulder.

Brad you and you brother were sniping little turds with limited ability, I suggest you pack the hypocrisy away and shut the @#$%&! up

Yeah, and if his Auntybhad Balls she would be is uncle, can we get Visy to arrange to send a semi load of tissues down to Arden street.

Contribution of our midfield rotation players last night...
Marc Murphy 18
Andrew Carrazzo 18
Ed Curnow 18
Bryce Gibbs 11
Brock McLean 12
Chris Judd 17
Jaryd Cachia (sub) 3

Dennis Armfield 12
Heath Scotland 13
Kane Lucas 12

How on earth did we manage to win this game with a total possession output of 290 (our worst of this season?). The answer is efficiency... cant rely on this every week though.
Simpson and Walker topped our stats with 28 & 23 respectively from the half back line.

We need to fix our midfield structure... Teaching them defensive roles is well and good, but Judd isn't regularly dominating games anymore and some are being exposed.

+1
Lucas's best game for the club in terms of physical commitment and skill execution.
Great mark by Watson in the last - that might be the turning point for him.
Yazz's 2nd, 3rd & 4th efforts noticeably better.
