I thought Petrie could have got at least one for holding.
The deliberate OOB wouldn't get paid every week. There were others.

On the other hand, we also got a bad deal. Eddie's non-in the back in the square was a glaring example. The Zeibel one could easily have gone to us for diving in at the layer's legs and there were more. The Armfield one was a howler.

All in all the umpires had a shit night all round, deciding not to pay in the back for about 90% of the time.

They are weak gutted and didn't have the balls to pay the Petrie one when it would have taken them to within a kick.

Both teams were short changed by poor non-decisions.

Let them complain and we will too. Then we'll look at the scoreboard.

According to the Age North Melbourne lost to North Melbourne by a point. At least that's all I could make out. There may have been some Carlton players out there savagely kicking Ziebell's knee but that was about it. Oh and it was only a bad bounce that caused Norf to lose.

Forget the fact that had Judd not missed twice running into an open goal and Yarran/Armfield not missed gettable set shots we might have won by 30.

Really, we choked a bit with the finishing in the last quarter but it was actually pretty even in general play. North got plenty of favourable bounces leading up to that Harvey one, not to mention the north player trips over and rolls headfirst into Henderson's legs to earn a free kick in the last minute of the game.

Was loving watching Mick go apoplectic in the coaches box too!

Oh and @#$%&! off Thomas. How hard is it peel off your man and wait in the goal square for a handball?

Pros:

We won. We finally won a close game. Like last week we beat a team we've struggled against for a while.
Hendo.
Great to see Garlett, Betts and Yarran all play well.
Curnow and Lucas.
Terrific games from Watson and McInnes.
Simmo again.
Kruezer's marking.

Cons:

Midfield struggled. Judd and Gibbs were poor. Although I like how Gibbs has learnt to physically hurt opposition players.
Scotland looks on his last legs.
North missed a lot. But so did we. McLean, Armfield and Kreuzer all missed real sitters.
After a slashing start to the season, Walker and Armfield have dropped off over the last month.

Oh, and can we get a final tally on how many times the words "chicken wing" were mentioned tonight?

Geez not of our guys running through the middle broke through for 20 possies.

Simmo as a back pocket is delicious. Not only for his ability to provide rebound, but his ferocity at the contest, especially in the air, is second to none.

I wish Robbo used the the same courageous approach as Simmo, rather than his fearless but borderline suicidal attack on the ball.

Anyone see the ball bounce behind Harvey running into goal for the winner?

Great entertainment! Couldn't happen to a nicer bloke

- we invented Friday Night football.

Biggest bunch of self entitled bogans I have ever listened too.

This is your Grand Final and you couldn't get 40,000 to the game, you are the biggest bunch of irrelevant cock suckers this side of the Pecos.

So piss off and field a team in the VFL where even Port Melbourne and Williamstown would draw a bigger crowd then you bunch of flogs.

You'll love this one then.....

Nice one from Brad Scott. Says he didn't see Tuohy toe-poke Ziebell's leg injury, but.."Zach's probably lucky we're not playing in the 70s."

Pretty sure a 90kg Irish man could handle himself OK.

And Scott needs a new whinge, as he trotted this one out after the Harvey/Crowley affair.

Just had a frame by frame look at it.

Zeibel was trying to smother the kick and put his leg between the footy and Zac's kicking foot. Accident. In the second angle, you can see Zac ask Zeibel if he is OK.

Scott is a wanker reacting like that and should apologise (not that he will). Bit like JUliar's former Foreign Minister, "I haven't heard what she said but I agree with her."

WTF?

Good win... probably about the best we are going to do given the limitations of this list. I'm pretty happy with how they held on against a bogey side at Etihad. Zach and Hendo were excellent, but well done to McInnes and Watson for playing capably enough to allow Hendo to play forward.

The game just re-emphasized to me that the drafting and recruiting should be midfielders, midfielders, midfielders. Last night showed we can fashion a working forward line and a working defence. But until we can get a large rotation of players capable of playing midfield then we will continue to struggle against good sides.

But Brad Scott said if North won all the close games they would be equal with Geelong and Hawks. #unluckyscotty #bestteamoutoftheeighttitle

"There were chances squandered late, such as Brent Harvey overrunning a ball that didn't quite bounce up for him, 35 metres out, with less than a minute left. Had the ball bobbed Harvey's way, he might have scored the winning goal in a result that reeked of irony. "

Red time and cheap goals are going to kill Malthouse.

If he ever gets us to cut those out we're not that far away.

We give away 3-4 goals a week when we don't kill a contest in the goalsquare, midfielders not chasing their man into D50, poor tackles and silly free kicks

Good: We won a close, entertaining match where we were harder at it and more committed than the other team.

Kreuzer stood up and looked like a number 1.

Bad: We ain't challenging the top four anytime soon, let alone winning a flag.

Lindsay Thomas/Brad Scott take note, kicking joe the goose goals, then celebrating like its goal of the year does not make you an all australian forward. #flogoftheyear
