I'm still of the opinion the rules and different interpretations are making it difficult to umpire a game of football. It makes it hard for supporters to understand as well.

Rules Committee and Umpiring Department are to blame.

One thing we can say though is the way the game is now umpired is worse than it has ever been.

Look. In my view it was a good win. No it wasn't pretty but the players stood up against a team that we have had trouble beating for the best part of a decade.

I liked having Rowe & Hendo up forward. Rowe is better than Casboult because he uses his body well and can actually put the ball through the sticks.

I especially liked the fact that our guys didn't shy away when the St Kilda players tried to turn it into a bitch-slapping contest. Most of the boys flew the flag in the argy bargy and to me that is a sign that Malthouse is trying to bring them out of their shells. Even Gibbs took a player out in the contest which was great to see.

Best game from Simmo in a long time, and Juddy was also fantastic.

+1^

As for most of the other contributions on this thread, don't think I've seen more misery laden, black-hat, glass half empty posts. Ok, it wasn't pretty, but we did will ourselves to win. Saints aren't great, but we haven't beaten them much at all over the last 8 years or so. Still some issues with the culture of this group, their confidence is not great (but would at least not be dented further), and yes, song was very ordinary, but there were some positives.

Now for the roos next week. Go Blues!

Have to say though, the carrying on of some of our supporters, particularly cheersquad, is a disgrace. There's always that one bloke shown on TV from the cheersquad, no matter the opposition, carrying on like a f-wit. Dead-set @#$%^ with obviously not much going on upstairs. Just enjoy the footy FFS or get out.

Did the AFL/Stk/Seven Commentary think Milne who is charged with 4 counts of rape, and was already very unpopular, not get booed FFS even Malthouse called him "a rapist"?
The missing thing for me is I still can't believe he played, the Community deserves better from the game, and struggle to see how he became the victim.

Hard to assess Watson's game.

Didn't really take a key forward all night, spent most of the night on Ahmed Saad. That goal one of the Saints boys kicked running into an open goal while Watson jogged lazily behind him was one of the most embarrassing things you'll see all year from Carlton.

On the other, he's clearly a very good decision maker, and an elite user of the footy by foot. Don't think he missed a target all night, and for a team that struggles so often with turnovers in the back half, may be useful.

Think he did enough to justify his spot against North's tall forward line this week, but not enough to avoid reserving judgment till then.

If I'm keeping one of him, Mitchell or McCarthy at the end of the year, I know who I'd pick.

Who? Watto? That was armitage that burnt him off for a goal. Watto was never going to catch him but should've at least made it look a little less obvious by not giving up straight away.
Both his and McInnes' disposal from the back half was excellent.

Hmm, the same Saad who didn't play?

May have been Milera :$

Irrespective, played on someone far smaller than KP height.

Watto wasn't very good unfortunately. There was one chase that led to a saints goal where it looked like he was jogging on the spot. It was actually comical in its absurdity.

He has some pluses but far too many crosses. Can't see him being on the list next year.

Ditto Kane Lucas.

The issue is how much are their flaws going to hurt the team into the future Vs what they offer

Much the same as most blokes who've played a season or so of footy I guss.

Watson has played less than 15 games and Lucas just over 30. I think they are marked very harshly.

The critics may prove to be correct, but at least give them an honest crack at it and show some understanding if they fail a few tests here and there.

For example, Lucas, who still has a long way to go, has improved a lot this year on the back of the faith Malthouse has shown him. He may never be any more than a good ordinary player, but there's no shame in that.

Of course they are inexperienced but can you see Watson's agility/pace improving enough to allow him to play on mobile leading forwards? Can you see Lucas' kicking being reliable in finals pressure; he already struggles with it when there is little pressure.

Lucas' kicking is ahead of Carrazzo at the same age. Needs a summer of being harassed and made into an angrier player (maybe not possible) and to be judged solely on the number of effective tackles. That must be his major goal next year. Won't be traded. Work with him...and yes he drives me bananas as well JFTR

He is an unusual one .

Those times he looks to be moving like treacle seem to come after repeat efforts .

He didn't seem to bad on the initial leads.

14 disposals, 4 marks, 33 hitouts, 1 goal (from a mark and set shot, not a gimme), 3 clearances, 3 tackles.

What else do you want from the guy... 24 possessions and a run down the wing?

thought his ruckwork was shithouse myself, regardless of those stats

Went to the game against my better judgement, but buoyed by the win despite crap opposition who actually had the better of us statistically for much of the night.

Simmo's best game for the year. Intensity and flair and risk from him not seen for a while

Rowe > Casboult. Gets more of it, looks like a footballer, marks at least as well, and can kick.

Judd looked like the Captain again last night. I think he's deliberately taken a back seat this year so as not to undermine Murph, and its been to the detriment of the team.

Just can't see how Watson fits in to a good side moving forward. He is just too slow, certainly can't cover a lead, cant exert pressure, struggles to spoil, lacks any oomph, and was regularly out marked and outplayed by a bloke Tom Lee who I'd never heard of. Well, apart from his video.

Don't think Murph should be playing right now, helmet or not. He's not right. Seeing that nuff nuff Clint Jones accelerate away from him into an open goal and on another occasion give up the chase was quite striking.

Hendo forward or back. I'm still torn, although with Waite out it's a no brainer. BKB what do you think?

All this bullshit about booing Stephen milne. Does anyone in the media realise that he's been booed for years anyway?
