Just popping in to update on Mr Sulky Pants

He threw nappy rash cream across the office and was called a "petty tosser" by his TL

He then regrouped and started in about how Judd was a filthy salary cap cheat.. blah blah blah, we've all heard it before

I replied that he could think what he likes, but at least our Brownlow Medallist didnt kick a mans head in so badly he is now permanently disabled.

He hasnt responded to that one

We got a bit rattled in the second when they threw an extra behind the ball and that is a bit of a worry for me. Teams that push back and then explode forward when they get the ball seem to bother us. Have done for a couple of years now. When i see us get on top of that tactic i will be very confident.
I think the pies dont have the pace to pull of that stunt for longer than 15 mins but teams like north , hawks and st kilda might be a concern.

Great point.
The kangas have done it to us probably 5 years in a row.

Agree with all of the above, but it generally has only worked at Etihad where we have struggled to find that space up forward.

That is true. Last year the crows almost got us, the dogs did us , North also got close and the Saints at the MCG in the last round too but we were not really all there that night. Training loads and bigger picture might have helped the saints. They are better than most at the flooding side of the tactic but are also dangerous on the counter

The two injuries to the pies might have stiffled the tactic working the other night.

I think we can overcome it against most teams but that flood and counter attack tactic is something that works well against our gameplan. I am sure Ratts is aware of it but like all good coaches believes in our gameplan and if we perform it at its peak we will overcome all counter tactics.

*bump*

Just wanted to highlight how all of the experts on here have changed in just over a year - we now have a shit list and need to rebuild apparantly. Interesting, apolgies to Scott12000 for highlighting his post but I thought it was the most relevant:

Quote:
What can be said that hasn't already been said? We had a 22 man effort tonight for (verrrry close to) four quarters. Some of, if not the very best footy the Club has produced in a decade, regardless of the opponent. Big stage, everything to gain, all eyes on us and we made a very big statement. Tackling intensity, pressure efforts and one percenters right to the final siren, smooth transitions, no nonsense professional footy delivered with frightening precision. The Filth never had an answer and never looked capable of it.

Felt like the Twilight Zone tonight - we just did the '11 Collingwood on Collingwood, and a new dawn is rising. It's only early yes, but if we maintain this level of skill, speed and team cohesion, we're a certainty for top 4, possibly top 2. From there, this gameplay could see us pull an '08 Hawks and take a flag a year early. Our intensity and whole-team work rate tonight will hold up to any challenger. There's something special brewing down at Visy. I know it and you've known it for years, but now...now we really are coming. Commentary tonight said it best - a group of talented players, all around the same age and all peaking together - this is the premiership team we've spent a decade building, and the time's now. The window is open. After so many years in the wilderness, I don't really know how to feel...I'm waiting for the rug to be pulled out, for me to wake up and realise it's all a dream. I'm beyond impressed and bursting with pride right now and feeling the love big time...really feel like we're witnessing history in the making. Our top tier players are either elite or on the verge of eliteness, our second-tier are standing up and being counted, all our cheap buys are blooming into golden nuggets, villains are becoming heroes...and with more players to return, what's not to like?

It's times like these I'm thankful my Dad (and most of my family) was born in Carlton and I was indoctrinated into the fold. Real thankful.

Did I mention we f**ing smashed the Pies?! Unbelievable on paper, unbelievable on the field. What a great night! This one's going straight to the pool room. Football pornography, thank you Blue boys!

Yes, while acknowledging our effort on Friday was not acceptable, it's kind of funny that 24 hours prior many were saying Collingwood was crap and needed a clean out. All of a sudden they're world beaters because they beat the team 9thn on ladder coming off 3 straight losses.

A week is a long time in football.

Next week we'll still have a few holes on our list, but hopefully we'll see a marked improvement in effort and application to the cause of winning.

Truth being both clubs are going south... but one club has more chance of bouncing back than the other...

"we're a certainty for top 4, maybe top 2" was what was written, now I think the same poster is saying give MM time.

Drunk is no excuse

So was he right then, wrong now, or neither?

Who knows. At the end of the day we're just supporters bashing away at a keyboard. We over rate wins, we over react to losses.

None of us are accountable for our opinions of which all are made with minimal information and by the majority from afar.

I've made some ripping predictions that have long since disappeared into the world wide oblivion. I've also made plenty of howlers that I'm happy to remain burried.

At the moment we've got a group saying "give it 12 months". We have another saying "Bring it now".

In the end its a circular argument with no immediate ending....

partly fair enough, my main gripe is that MM seems to be getting away with shit coaching on the back of our list supposedly being poor and that we need a total rebuild.

A week's a long time in football, a year's 52 times longer...nah, 104 times.

Certainly at the time I was pretty pumped as we all were. My proclaimation was prefaced by an 'if' - if we keep this level of intensity etc, we're a certainty for top 4.

Have they kept that level of intensity? Have they demonstrated the sort of form they showed in that particular game? Not only have they not shown it to that level this season, they pretty much never showed it again last season.

As for my position on the current state of affairs KK, I am saying give MM time. At least one preseason where he has a better ability to turnover the list his way, and a preseason to now attempt to build the fitness base that's needed to execute his gameplan. I honestly think he underestimated the list's inability to execute his gameplan skilfully, and the fitness deficiencies to sustain it for 4 quarters.

Furthermore, the comments MM made earlier in the year pertaining to flag contenders also was prefaced by a lot of ifs (including stars and planets aligning) and still said 'may' have the makings of a premiership side. Now it's being made out as though he said we were dead set certs.

We do pump up wins and go into meltdowns over losses here, this week a prime example. If the "fight" comes back this week and stays for the remainder of the season and results in all wins, what will the general consensus be then? Impossible to know. All I know is at times we looked fantastic with Ratts' gameplan (Collingwood, 2nd Essendope game) and shocking in others (Essendope 1st game, Port, St Kilda, Suns). Same with MM so far, but he's had half a season, with someone else's list and a new gameplan. He's learning as he goes, and will make the changes at seasons' end to give his plan the best chance at succeeding in his opinion, the same way Ratts did for 5 years.

I believed we had what it took early last season, but it was a false dawn as we've all seen. It was naive to think we could do it without a KPF, and I've always maintained our midfield depth is our Achilles heel.

I revise my statement: If we find some intensity, fight, fitness base and skill sustainable for four quarters each week every week; IF we clear out our surplus and trade/draft to meet our big list deficiencies; and if we gain some strong leadership on/off the field, we SHOULD have the potential to make top 4 next season.

Kind of reads like you justified your stance last year and then changed your mind? Doesn't matter, hope you found it amusing and sad at the same time?
