Too many players almost pick up the ball, almost get it to a teammate, kick half volleys, handball to teammates feet or half step behind, kick so teammate has to stop or run a few steps the other way rather than running onto the ball at full pace.
we simply cant have so many players who don't have the skills to get the ball and give it off under pressure.

we've beaten one side from Victoria this year.

Well bluegirl, i left at 3/4 time for the first time in my life. Stood on the train station for 25 minutes with all the other Carlton supporters ( and some happy Storm ones).
I am over it.

I know the match day thread copping a battering, and is seen as a place to vent rather than provide discussion on the game.......but the fact that so many gave up on the side when we were still up 42-40 says a lot about this group.

Woeful. Simply woeful.

Given the lead we had, lets call it a 100 point defeat.

I doubt we can recover from that.

No finals, no messiah, just season over.

Will this be the loss that makes us? Will we be talking about this loss as the one that galvanised the group? Or will this lot simply slide into oblivion?

Cripes, I thought we were inching our way forward, but tonight shows that we are simply not good enough, on every line. Thin and brittle. No stomach for the fight.

Bloody disappointing. I'm going to watch the cycling and the cricket now....

Can't help but think things need to change at the top before we are a force. Sticks needs to go ASAP. Second......we need to get murph back to being just a player. Terrible captain. Just terrible. Hughes has to go. Even if some clown thinks he has done a good job. He is in his 10th year in the role!!!!! Andy McKay....not convinced.

Now back at home and have calmed down a bit as well as warmed up. Jeez, it was cold.

Very disappointed as we started well with centre clearances and results, but after about the 20min mark of Q1 we got smashed in the clearances. After that, Collingwood's pressure in their forward line must have kept the ball on their half of the ground at least 70% of the game. No wonder we only had five scoring shots in Q2/Q3.

The most disappointing thing for me though was the performance of some of the players who either were not switched on or couldn't will themselves or wanted to will themselves into the game.

Gibbs - one of those games were he just gives the impression he's not interested
Yarran - apart from some junk time stuff, didnt contribute
Robbo - in a hole deeper than Tasmania, bugger all effect
Simmo - ineffective
Eddie - kicked one lucky goal, that's it
Jeffie - first two kicks in first few mins were great, went missing completely after that
Cachia - did some things but was shown up as too slow on several occasions
Levi - not enough
Army - struggled to have any impact
Curnow - no impact
2E - moments, but not enough

Walks, Murph, Jamo, Carrots were ok

Kreuze tried hard but was ineffective in the ruck.

Best IMO were Lucas, Judd, Hendo, Brock (although faded a bit)

There are some serious issues above the head with this lot I reckon, its just not clicking atm. Maybe nost are worried about who is going to get cleaned out later this year!!

Our tackling was poor. Our balls skills were v poor by comparison, fumbling, lack of clean disposal, balls slipping through hands. Collingwood were much better in this department, far cleaner ball skills.

No obvious answers for me other than serious rebuilding.

Remember the loss that made the Cats? It was against us at PP. I remember Karl Norman dominating at CHB. We are a diff club to Geelong in so many ways. Long long road ahead.

So who coach it tonight ?
Can only coach what's put in front of you. The problem of so many bad years and tanking for picks is the culture goes out the window. Hence when the going gets tough players go missing. Can take years and years to get around.

Hopefully we've found the right bloke to sort that out even if it means players turnover and a few years. He did with the Pies. Went from 16th to 15th to a GF two years later.

Look at the way we play.
We play a brand of football that is to save a game more so than to win it by overly tagging and our line of attack.
Our attack is based on a pure hit and miss method of erratic and fortunate goals.
We haven’t got a system of making space for a leading forward and creating space for each other or setting up the best angle for accurate shooting.
Our set shots haven’t been addressed by judging the run up of players.
We don’t defend on the outside of stoppages so when we lose the ball we are caught flat footed.
Our midfielders more than most are just rushed on their extracting without purpose and don’t work to create a worthwhile possession.
All this cannot be blamed on the previous coach.
Before anyone says its Rattens list well Port had a different coach last year with the same list.
Adelaide was much the same the year before.
There comes a time when we stop passing the buck and expect some answers from the head coach, seeing he’s in charge now.

Appeared as though the team gave up when Waite got injured.

The killer was conceding 3 goals to Collingwood in first quarter red time.

Instead of going in at qtr time 28 points up, Carlton went in 15 or 16 up. After Reid kicked the goal on the bell, they were up and about. Even though Carlton had kicked 7 they trudged off to the qtr time huddle.

Not sure Casboult deserves the criticism - when Waite went off everyone knew where the ball would be directed. The other thing is he and Kreuzer got no rest; if they weren't rucking they were forward.

Once Waite went down the lack of a kickout strategy became more evident; just struggle to get it to the wing let alone get it inside 50.

Everyone knew the ball would be directed at Cloke a lot yet rarely did a mid drop in front of him; Simpson did on occasion.

But it all comes back to the last five minutes of the first quarter.

A complete rebuild is NOT necessary; Geelong have shown you can still play finals and replenish the list. Why is it so hard to understand? The data is there and clear; a rebuild is NOT necessary. Some tough decisions yes but not a rebuild. Unfortunately it will take a little longer to repair the damage done by Hughes and Ratten but it seems Rogers is determined to 'spread the load' and not put all our eggs in one basket.

The concern is Sticks/Swann/Malthouse will want to put all our eggs in one basket and throw everything at Daisy or someone else. The club needs to stop thinking throwing the chequebook at players/administrators/coaches is the panacea. The supporters need to understand it too!

Results indicate there has been little improvement compared to last year - the same people who threw squillions to sack the previous coaching staff and get MM are still there.

It leaves me feeling very pessimistic about the future - why won't the administrators ever @#$%&! learn?

yes, perhaps I was a little generous with the ok comment, he tried, but really didn't have that much impact. Got caught a few times
