This.

The idea of trading Gibbs was some hairbrain idea from David King on 360.
It wont happen.

Gibbs trading is absurd. Last year was his poorest season apart from his first, but apart from that he has been in our top 5 players. Right now he is probably top 3.

my thoughts,
1. tall forward
2. tall defender
3. mid or two
we have a few quality players coming through in the next year to two, these are
menzel, buckley, graham and andy mac.
GWS are going to want kreuzer or gibbs etc forget it and lets concentrate on fringe players ala swans.
trade warnock/hampson for taylor adams
target gumbleton, ben griffiths, shane kersten or josh walker
target mitch brown, tayte pears or steve may
target kieran harper, nick haynes or pat karnezis
look at dale thomas, see what he is after, costs us nothing, maybe no more than 550k.
plenty of options out there.
thanks to,
collins, davies, o'keeffe, dale, joseph and ellard.
next year critical year for rowe, mccarthy, mitchell, watson, duigan and white, boys need to step up, although mitchell should get a few games this year, maybe send casboult to CHB, needs to work on he's kicking or may find himself on the list also.
can curnow, cachia, bell, robinson and mclean all play in the same team??? prob not....do we look at trading one????
if we could land say,
gumbleton, mitch brown, taylor adams, thomas and kieran harper, reckon our list improves by 15/20%, then add in menzel, buckley, graham and andy mac and our list improves again......
use our first pick to pick the best available as always, and we can set ourselves for a tilt at the cup.
just my thoughts..

David King wasn't far off the mark today. The footy world now knows our place in the scheme of things.

That we try hard but lack the class to be top four side and need to make some big decisions on our list with more of a long term focus cos this side won't take us there.
Highlighted poor recruiting - especially with early picks - and put spotlight on players such as Yarran and Kreuzer. And Waite.
Wasn't rocket science but they are arguments that have been made by many here for some time.
Just seems the mainstream is realizing the same.
Made the point that Mick had some interesting decisions ahead of him.
Just think the footy world has been wondering how good we actually are and, 14 rounds in with Mick, it pretty much has us nailed.

If you had a compo pick and you chose not to activate it this year, with Adelaide and probably Essendon* missing, you'd be feeling a bit silly.

We miss the finals and we might get a decent pick. Would still like to focus on getting pick 10 off GWS though.

Use pick 10 on a Lennon or Salem type, then our next pick on Gardiner or Hourigan

..i suppose they'd have the cash, not sure he's all that neccessary.. ..and i reckon they'd not want to be adding big dollar long year contracts to their list, looking ahead to all their young gun's next contracts..

Yep, he's spot on. As the old cliche goes - short term pain for long term gain. We've spent too long trying to win a premiership from an overrated base of players. If people think things are bad now, it won't get any better if we keep up a protection policy.

I thought he said we have to offer a No 1 draft to get a No. 1 draft...and we need at KPF because what have we got when Waite's gone?....zilch....in terms of class...cupboard is bare.

I've heard King tell the audience how good we are ....this year.

But he's right about KPF situation.

The exercise was how to get Boyd and imo he gave away the shop.

Kreuzer for Boyd if it had to be...only coz we have Hammer and warnock to pick from and Casboult too.

Kreuzer seems to be the flavour of the week to trade out for the superstar Boyd.

How exactly do we think this will come about?
Swann said that Kreuzer is definitely staying at Carlton.
Kreuzer is contracted until 2015.
Kreuzer is very happy at Carlton and wants to remain a one club player.
Kreuzer has had his chance to go for extra dollars so why would he go now? To help Carlton secure Boyd?

So how exactly is the conversation going to go?

..Krooz is also the kind of player that MM loves, and he's on record saying as much and more, a few times now.. ..he's had a good look at both Hampson and Warnock, and both are fit enough to play seniors but aren't.. ..he won't trade out the ruck he believes in, and retain the rucks he doesn't 'rate'..

Could easily be taking an opportunity catch up with an old Carlton bloke while in Sydney last week.

Henderson.

Then we'd need a key defender. Reckon chase Mitch Brown from the Eagles. We know he's out of contract and know he wants to come home. One won't be getting gun key position players in the trade, clubs just don't give them up, so he might be worth a shot. Could fill a hole to allow Henderson to go forward. Casboult will make a good 2nd forward one day but needs more time to develop further.
