Good post dannyboy.
My opinion.
Fev, stay unless the trade offer is over the odds in Carlton's favour (in other words stay).
Lance, well this one is complicated, what is fair market value? An easy way to gauge it is if other clubs are offering $X to get him his real market value is $X-something because the other club is trying to pay a premium to snaffle him. The most important thing is Carlton not offer him anything close to $X and wait for trade week to see what happens. If he goes for a decent trade I will not be too upset, if he stays on a reasonable contract (whatever a very good flanker is paid these days) no problems.
Campo, he gave us 6 very good years of football, unfortunately for our club he signed a long term contract just after playing his best football. In the last five years his pace seems to have been dropping off year after year. Good receivers tened to take the ball at pace either level with the contested situation or slightly in front of it and then use their pace to break a line and deliver the ball. Camporeale used to do this in his prime, but now he has lost so much pace that he does not even attempt to break the lines anymore and now mostly takes the ball well behind the contested situation and then backpedals before kicking, the pre-2001 campo would be 40 metres up the ground delivering the ball.
Sad to see a once great footballer reduced to this. Pagan has tried several things with him over the last couple of years, tagger, wing and half back flanker. At the moment he is too slow to play as a receiver in the middle, too slow to keep up with nippy half forward flankers and too slow to keep up with pacy half back flanker who would run off him.
Yes we got burnt with his contract a mixture of bad luck and bad management. It would be a bit sad to see campo keep going in a game that has motored past him over the last few years. Time to retire from AFL alltogether.
Lappin, great servant, but now feels he is owed something by the club. You probably are Matty but the club is now hopefully different now than it used to be and unless he accepts 2 years, another trade, take whatever is on offer really.
Will be interesting to see what actually happens over the next week.
Oh, and on a lighter note an article from the bladder,
