I think we can all agree that off-season for the Carlton Football Club is going to be a very interesting, possibly exciting time.

My thoughts:

1. Tall forward
2. Tall defender
3. Mid or two

We have a few quality players coming through in the next year to two, these are Menzel, Buckley, Graham and Andy Mac.

Concur, although a tall forward of quality will not come about easily so maybe the back man can send Henderson forward.

Frawley, Thomas and another young mid, say Adams and we'd have done very, very well.
I know even that won't come about easily but three players of this ilk and we're miles in front.

Just don't want us acquiring any player that doesn't immediately fit into our best team. No risk taking

Forget Gumbleton. We did a medical assessment last year and he is stuffed.
Remember, this is the group who ticked off Brock McLean so if we think he's rooted, he's definitely rooted!

When you put it that way, yeah consider Gumbleton.

Is he missing now because of injury or because they're too top heavy with Daniher/ Bellchambers in?

Before or after the program started? He might be fixed now.

I gave up on our list after the Hawthorn game. This year is a learning experience of the list, even though we will make finals.

Obviously need a semi-major list change, but it was always going to happen after Mick's first year.

We need 2 picks in the top 10 and preferably the #1 pick of GWS if they finish last - how do we do it ???

No we don't. How many top 10 picks are playing for the swans?

Need good inside 50 delivery - get Daisy.

Need someone to help Waite out up forward who can kick? Get Frawley and put Hendo forward.

See if there are some TALENTED/HARD homesick guys at GWS, Gold coast, Brisbane etc (docherty, polec, taylor adams are some high draft picks who have put off re-signing at their clubs)

Delist the deadwood (if we don't want them, sure as hell no other team will trade for them) - Davies, Duigan, Collins and Joseph

Draft class of 2010 - Watson, Mitchell & McCarthy. Decide whether to persist or delist and cut our losess.

Trade a ruck to GWS (out of warnock and hammer) for a good pick to get some earlier picks in draft and hope like hell our new recruiting people are any good.

my main strategy as a start would be:

- target Thomas and Frawley;
- trade Kreuzer or Warnock;
- trade Garlett (not Yarran);
- get as many games into players like Menzel, Graham, Bootsma & Bell (also Mitchell?);
- keep all draft picks with a focus on hard bodied midfielders and kicking skills;
- reduce reliance on negative roles and tactics (ie Curnow & Armfield);
- transition to a team to contend over 3 - 5 years (don't bottom out);
- release the list cloggers (we know who they are);
- put Henderson forward; and
- change the president (too ambitous I know).

Obviously, won't pan out like this so alternative plans are crucial

Ok, we need two picks in the low 50s, then. :?

We aren't the Swans, we are not in the same position as they are (or even were) and they haven't been successful enough for long enough to be the 'be all and end all' of AFL benchmarks. If we went exclusively 'swansesque' at this stage it woulds do more harm than good.

GWS' pick 11 is key. (If we miss finals)

Assuming it involves a packagr trade for one of our rucks, puts us in a position to address the lopsided ness of our list, draft the best defender in the draft and simultaneously be flexible with whether we lop the entire 2010 draft crop at once.

I'd prefer more top line mids with early picks.

List doesn't need to be totally rebuilt.

People need to realise you can replenish the list and still have a tilt at the flag at the same time!

Geelong are the example.

Delist:
Watson
Rowe
Davies
Duigan
White
Joseph
O'Keefe
Dale
Collins

Possibly delist:
Mitchell
McCarthy
Curnow

Cannot keep all of Kreuzer/Hampson/Warnock. I still believe that if Warnock or Hampson got majority time in the ruck they would flourish; the list structure makes it impossible at Carlton. There are numerous examples of rucks being traded and then flourishing when they get lots of ruck time.

Watson doesn't have the athleticism to make it - look at all the decent key defenders; Nathan Brown, McPharlin, Trengove, Carlisle, Richards, Reid, Taylor - they have the required athleticism. Queries on Mitchell's ability to get separation too as well as ever having the confidence in his shoulders. Not sure both Rowe and Mitchell can be kept on the list...probably have to keep one as some insurance.

Keep and play Laidler.

Keep all the guns unless there is a very favourable deal on the table.

There is a surplus of inside tagging/ballwinning poorly skilled midfielders - Cachia, Bell, Curnow, Carrazzo - Carrazzo has sufficiently altered his game to stay. Then it's out of Bell/Curnow/Cachia. Bell has more upside.

I'm sure I've forgotten someone.
