We still have a lot we need to fix and some glaring deficiencies but to put the match in perspective we came in having not played in conditions like that for maybe two years against a side who played in similar conditions six days ago.

They jumped us in those conditions and we out scored them from the 23 minute mark until the end of the game.

We've got loads of things we need to work on and holes that need filling but there's some extra context to tonight's performance that seems to be getting overlooked.

Buckley is way off AFL standard...... saw him last weekend.

He needs to be playing and developing on the wing... he doesnt touch the ball.. and in AFL will be doing less than Garlett

Sure. I'm not saying Buckley is any good, just that if we need to rest a small forward then I have a perfect candidate.

I would actually say he is getting the best he can out of our list. 22pts our worse loss on a soggy SCG against the reigning Premier who came off a loss.

Menzel, Graham, McInnes, maybe Buckley are the future, but not fit enough yet. Hopefully McInnes is not too far away as he's our third tall moving forward.

22 points in those conditions is like a 7 goal loss. We had an ordinary team in though, make of that what you will

For what it's worth I was pleasantly surprised we had a dip in these conditions and against this side.

We did alot wrong but better than expected.

Wrong set up at selections had us behind the eight ball to start off with.

there is an easier way...

Yeah but we had Lucas and Casboult who effectively kicked it to them in the stands whenever they got the opportunity.

I agree. Our small forwards are clearly nowhere near as effective in the wet which is to be expected - they are one touch players who normally hit the ball at speed. Our quicker players like Armfield were nullified by the wet. Speed and agility would normally be our strength against Sydney.

We have been concentrating on hbfers...

I am with you on this one. We don't have midfield depth and I would have loved 2 more in tonight.
Id still play Bell. We have Carrazzo and Murphy and we have the guys Mick got over last preseason when he traded a ruck , a forward pocket and 2 hbfers.

I think it will be hilarious if we end up with no flankers in 5 years time, and 13 KPFs playing VFL.

Bullshit. Their last 2 goals came from rubbish umpiring decisions.

It was nothing like a 7 goal loss.

I watched the first quarter and then had to leave the house.
I was trying to guess the final margin before I got home and thought it would be the margin at quarter time and I wasn't far off.

I'll have to watch the replay to see how they went for the rest of the game but I am not happy.

I thought MM was going to roll the dice and sub Yarran before quarter time...

Just back from the match.Miserable conditions.
From the outset it was clear they were far cleaner in the conditions. Some of their picks ups
in the wet were outstanding. I had 2 non AFL supporters with me who both noticed the skill difference.
We certainly slipped over a lot more than they did. Had anyone noticed the wet conditions and changed boots accordingly?

Levi couldn't clunk a mark all match.Got to the ball ok just couldn't hold them. Ditto Kruz.
I don't recall a mark inside forward 50 till the 3rd quarter mark and goal by Armfield. I thought our forward structures were a disaster
in the first half. We got nothing out of our smalls when it appeared they were suited by the conditions.

I would hate to think what the scoreboard would have looked like without Hendo.
He was our best player along with Judd. I though Cachia was again good. Simmo tried hard.
Gibbs still makes to many errors for my liking. Maybe I mark him harshly but he should have gone up as the 3rd man in when he sat back and
watched Tippet out mark Jamo...Resulting in a goal. Also the game winning free against Hendo came from a rebounded Gibbs bomb into half forward when he had plenty of time to dispose of it correctly. Easy from the comfort of the O'Rielly stand in the wet conditions I know but both errors costly.
Im not a fan of White.
Im certainly not a fan of Lucas.I don't want to hate a Carlton player, but I despise this fellow. He is an out and out spud.

It always rains in Sydney when Carlton are playing.

Our forward line setup let us down tonight. We just don't setup well or play as a unit up there. It's frustrating.
