Bootsma will be ok - another 2-3 years.

Lucas I am not sure about - poor kicking action, poor decision maker - the former something which can't easily be fixed.

Bootsma's issue is obviously conditioning - I don't know how you can rule him out.

Bootsma might be a footballer, Lucas won't be

Poor selections, poor coaching in the first quarter/half

Maybe because I only saw the second half but I thought we smashed them for most of that time.

Lack a bit of polish, self belief and one or two of our boys made it looked like they were trying but didn't really.

I'm all for giving players a decent run to prove themselves... but surely the call has to be made on Lucas now

I watched the whole game and i also thought we were on top for most of the game after quarter time. Just a really bad 15 minutes in the first quarter cost us.
I am not too disappointed tonight, i didnt expect to win and i thought they had a real crack.

That's unfair, you're including the last 4 months of Ratts in that....we've gone forwards since late last year

Nice work instructing players on wet weather tactics at half time

And of course it takes a master coach to instruct the players to keep moving the ball forward.

Really? What if we make finals and win the first? That puts us level in Micks first season of Ratten's list learning a new style of play.

Look at ross lyon and the dockers.
How long has rossy been there? What were their results in his first year?
I know its cliche but its about the process. There are so many positive signs under mick already.
Let him put his stamp on the list, give him another preseason drilling the non-negotiables into them and we'll be away.

We are heading in the right direction. He is blooding players, seeing who's got what it takes, not playing favourites, not being the players mate. This man is the right choice.

Anyone who can't see where we're heading, which is in a positive direction, has rocks in their head

I think we played admirably tonight. Was very tough conditions and the swans got some easy goals in the first quarter that turned out to be the reason we lost. Apart from that I felt that we had the ball in our attacking half longer and probably looked the better side for longer. Shame we couldn't click into gear straight away but I guess we haven't played in those conditions for ages and coming off a bye sometimes means the players aren't sharp from the first siren

Didn't Ross Lyon take them to the finals in his first year? The fellow in Adelaide did well too. No talk of game plan with HInkly either.

I don't think we are having trouble with learning the plan more that the gameplan is not a great one. It isn't set up for scoring when in control of the game.

I'm going back to our 10 goal win against the Filth, before our injuries came.

We have a pretty short injury list now, though.

IF we do that, it'll be a different story. It's not looking all that likely at the moment, though.

Of course we've gone backwards
Watson should be getting games - shit
McCarthy should be getting games - "
Grigg should have been in best 18 - " even at Richmond, don't rate him at all
Warnock should be killing them - "
Hampson should be a freak like Nic Nat - "
Pick up Lucas over Fyffe - " recruiting
etc. etc.

The cupboard is bare. This is not a Malthouse issue. To all you Malthouse dislikers, my analogy is this.

History will show that Judd has been a wasted pick. Should have rebuilt with picks and salary cap money. I can be convinced (although not with great certainty) that we needed Judd at our lowest ebb and maybe he brought in more than just his on field ability.

It's the same with Malthouse. He may not get us a flag, but if he hardens us up as a football club and sorts out the shit from the good, maybe, just maybe, we'll be in a better spot in in 2-4 years time. Could this have been achieved or bettered with another coach? Dunno honestly.
For mine, how we didn't identify Lyon as a great coach is reprehensible?
Brittain was never given a chance.
Scott brothers, Hinkley etc are all failure of governence or due diligence

I am not a MM apologist. We have him. I believe he will make us a better side in his tenure.
