What a joke. The fact his arm/elbow rose a split second after the impact would suggest that he wasn't going for the ball at all. There is no way he could have picked the ball up. The intent was contact, and hard contact at that.

Now the precedent has been set.... just run though packs shoulder charging.

Luke Hodge, Hawthorn, has been charged with a level one engaging in rough conduct offence (125 demerit points, one-match sanction) for engaging in rough conduct against Lachlan Henderson, Carlton, during the second quarter of the round 12 match between Hawthorn and Carlton, played at Etihad Stadium on Friday June 14, 2013.

In summary, he can accept a reprimand and 93.75 points towards his future record with an early plea.

Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from the Carlton Football Club, the incident was assessed as negligent conduct (one point), low impact (one point) and high contact (two points). This is a total of four activation points, resulting in a classification of a level one offence, drawing 125 demerit points and a one-match sanction. He has no existing good or bad record. An early plea reduces the sanction by 25 per cent to a reprimand and 93.75 points towards his future record.

Other incidents assessed:
Contact between Hawthorn’s Luke Hodge and Carlton's Marc Murphy from the second quarter of Friday’s match was assessed. It was the view of the panel that Hodge had no realistic alternative way to contest the ball. No further action was taken.

Contact between Hawthorn's Jaryd Roughead and Carlton's Kade Simpson from the second quarter of Friday’s match was assessed. Simpson handballs to teammate Brock McLean as Roughead is running towards him. As the Carlton player disposes of the ball, Roughead braces for contact. After speaking to the umpire closest to the contact, viewing all available footage and receiving a medical report from the Carlton Football Club, it was the view of the panel that there was no significant high contact made. No further action was taken.

Joke. I'm over the admin of this f***ing game. Hodge should have gone for the Henderson hit. End of Story.
How Betts was suspended for 3 is beyond me even more now.

Roughead's bump on Blues midfielder Kade Simpson was scrutinised by the MRP, but it was decided that "no significant high contact was made".

Not only does the criteria change from jumper to jumper it seems it also changes from player to player within the same jumper.

I heard Hodge passed it on to Malthouse. After THAT press conference Hodge was home free. Just the beginning too.
The afl will prefer to see players in Ambulances and mothers crying than the show Malthouse put on the other night.

Not only were we screwed by the umpires but also the MRP. .I am so pissed off
only consolation about Fridays game would have been that both the Sniper (Hodge) and Alfred E Newman (Roughhead) would be suspended and that hasnt happened. No justice in footy

Terrible decisions by the MRP, especially the Henderson one. Still, we do want Hawthorn to smash West Coast Friday night so not all bad.

I agree. So much of it is about perception. And reputation. I reckon the bigger blokes generally get a tougher run as well. Even Buddy has got suspended on occasions when he shouldn't have.

Still not convinced Waite actually made contact. And he got a week.

Henderson one surprised me. He must've have got a clean record discount too as I thought he might've got 2 weeks brought back to 1 with an early plea.

Sadly the Murphy one was obvious. Simply two blokes red hot at a contest. If he got suspended for that they'd have rightly been a general outcry from everyone but us, and fair enough too.

The Murphy outcome was easily foreseeable. Though wouldn’t of been surprised me if he got weeks as is the nature of the MRP Chook Lotto.

The Hendo one baffles me a bit.

My only solace is they face WCE this week and strangely enough we need the Hawks to beat them. That is what I’m using for my own piece of mind any way.

I hate losing any game but I tell ya these last two losses have hurt like hell. Haven’t got over either of them and not only have they broken my heart they are eating away at my soul too.
