I'm leaning towards trading both Hammer and Warnock.
Pick up a journeyman for nothing as backup to Kreuzer and use Casboult in support.
Trade for picks, draft rucks on the rookie list.
In general our strategy should be to hang onto our picks and target free agents.
This is pretty sensible IMO.
Firstly, you look at the rucks floating around and there are plenty who can hold up an end if needs be. We have a glut of rucks, noneof which is super good but all of which can do it if necessary. Unfortunately, one of them cost us a 31 Pick.
Secondly, trading for picks gives us access to kids.
Free agency has changed the landscape. Goddard was the first big signng but there will be plenty more and we wll one day be on the losing end but all is not doom and gloom. Get one or two free agents, we keep our picks. Lose a free agent and we get a pick. It should be a win-win. Geelong certainly hasn't suffered from the Ablett deal which was virtual free agency. Melbourne? Well that isn't the AFL's fault.
Daisy is an option to fit in the aging midfield but we need another KPP. Doesn't matter which end becausde we can use Hendo at either end.
Bell will come on and Cachis is showing promise.
This year we should delist anybody who has been fit all year and hasn't played multiple games with the exception of development players like Buckley and the other draftees from last year. Mitchell still is developing. Keep him. McCarthy seems to be a lost cause. Watson seems to have gone backwards or isn't in MM's calculations. Davies I like but he is one dimensional. O'Keefe will never get on the park. Duigan and Laidler don't seem to be in MM's plans. I like Hampson but would be OK with him going. I am not a fan of Warnock so that goes without saying.
Trade? I believe everybody should be on the table if the deal is right for us. That includes Gibbs, Hendo, Casboult, Eddie, Yarran. EVERYBODY. But we have to drive it and it has to happen. None of your offering up someone for trade and it not coming off so next year they just leave because they are unwanted.
We are only two or three players short of being in the mix. One key back, one class midfielder and one tall forward. It's possible we have the forward and the midfielder on the list already in Casboult, Mitchell and Touhy, Bell, Menzel, Cachia but the key back is the problem. We are one tall short down there and I don't think Bootsma or McKinness or White or Laidler is tall enough. It would be great if McCarthy could get up but if there is such a thing as injury prone, he and O'Keefe are it.
