Blue-collar Carlton fails late in game...

http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/b ... 2oa9n.html

"...the Blues' were aggrieved by a 14-4 free kick against them in the second half, and by what they suspected as strategic interference by Hawthorn runners, insults piled upon injury, all adding to a sense of unequal numbers. As the umpires left the ground, a plastic bottle flew in their direction. More should and will be heard."

Can't fault our effort however the execution let us down - particularly in the 2nd half.
Saying that the Hawks made plenty of errors as well.
Not sure why we picked both Rowe and Casboult - we looked a little top heavy.
Bootsma will be a player however probably isn't ready yet against quality opposition.

If the runner thing is proven, the result should be overturned. It's cheating, pure and simple! It's not getting a competitive edge or sailing close to the wind, it's C-H-E-A-T-I-N-G! Even the commentators were confused and could see what the Carlton player was kicking to ...

wont be overturned but an interesting tactic if it was deliberate

will they go down the same path as runners in that they have to be in contrasting colours or decked out in the clubs colours on th night e.g. in the Hawks case more aligned to the urine colour as opposed to the turd colour the trainers were wearing last night??

Forget the umpiring, forget the Hawthorn doctors - we lost a close game once again, we weren't good enough.

Late in the third quarter the Hawks found another gear and we had no answer. Opportunities in front of goals cost once again, and overall skills and polish.

Also thought the Hawthorn fans at the game outdid themselves once again and made prized f-wits of themselves once again. I don't think they ever used to be that bad...last year's game at the G was the same story. Geez it would've been a good experience being a Swans supporter at the GF last year....

Simmos flying spoil to deny a sure goal is the single best act by a Carlton player I've seen in a long time.

I was an advocate of him being captain over Murphy or Carrazzo. Kind of wish he was made it.

I love Simmo as a player and he would have been a 'monty'as skipper f Judd didnt come to the club - but i reckon Simmo's days are close coming to an end, fantastic servant - some leg speed has gone, moved to back half now - one of my fave's of our modern era but I reckon could be even finished up by the end of 2014 (fingers crossed they aren't though)

Simmo is courage personified - just like two other greats who wore that smae number in Garry Crane and Bob Chitty??

Loved Malthouse's press conference after the game.

Its nice to see grumpy Mick make an appearance to make a point re the umpiring.

Happy to chip in if he gets a fine.

Not much to say our effort was once again excellent, just lacking a little composure and maybe some luck

yeah we will struggle to make the eight.

but true grit and belief is being fashioned into us.

we do need some fine tuning .. our problem is age....

we used to say be patient... be patient.... which was daff of course...

now we find ourselves too old in a very important part of the ground.

and that is why you cant waste any time.

We are 5% away from being a top team. Really annoying that we are in a winning position every time to then lose it. Concerned about our fitness. Casboult had no marks in the second half. Last week he was reamed in the ruck in the second half. Mitchell got away from Brock in the last qtr etc. I think we need to look at our fitness program.

....and Mitchell is the slowest player in their midfield.

Whilst there's no one better to replace Brock for now, I think his pace would be an achilles heel for us in a final.

I've been watching players just take off everytime Brock stands the mark, and I'm really sick of it but understand why we have to play him: he's better than our VFL midfielders Duigan (that's it!) and Carrots, Ellard injured Bell is a rookie....

Not mush in the cupboard guarantees Brock's pace can't be held against him.

Sure Brock has done well in games, but if we are to improve we have to reduce our weaknesses and the pace issue is a weakness we must eradicate because its an issue.

Oh yeah, Mitchell thanks Brock for making him look fast last night...black armband and all.

Didn't see a second of it. Do I bother to watch the replay?

If you're looking for a reason to get a new TV, then go for it. The umpiring during the period when the momentum was swinging towards them and the game was in the balance was bordering on outright cheating.

On a serious note though, it's definitely worth watching to see how we (at last!) stood up to their macho bullshit and had them on the back foot. At one stage we were so dominant that it looked like there was nothing they could do to stop our run - even that little sniping midget looked out of answers. Then he slipped Ray Chamberlain and that nude nut a Grey Nurse each at 1/2 time and the game was turned on it's head. 10 free kicks to them in a row!

I would actually like to watch that game again without the emotion and count all the dodgy decisions AND dodgy non-decisions that ended in a goal to them, or cost us a goal. I reckon there would have been about 4 decisions/non-decisions that cost us with goals to Hawthorn and about 3 decisions/non-decisions that prevented us from scoring what would have been an almost certain goal.

Such bullshit and it still pisses me off big time....

Hawthorn runners or doctors were wearing navy blue shirts and we decided to kick it to them on multiple occasions.

Just saw a replay of the Murphy incident, nothing in it, hodge had his eyes on the ball, was committed and went in as you would expect any good tough player to do.. Technically high contact should have resulted in a free but not intentional.. Just a good hard attack on the ball.

Incorrect. I disagree.

The replay only shows the last 2 seconds, not his intent 2-3 seconds before that.

Hodge broke his jaw and deliberately wanted to take Murphy out/get some high contact on him. Hodge charged with his shoulder high. That hit- just as much as the diabolical umpiring (the Simpson one for holding the ball in the 1st quarter took the case as the most terrible umpiring decision one could ever see) were the real reasons for Hawthorn's "victory". Hodge - plus his hit on Henderson - should get a minimum sentence of 5 weeks....but we both know he won't. I predict him getting off scot free.

Contrast Dangerfield's attack on Murphy last year - he went for the body - Dangerfield's body was stronger- they both initiated contact. No problems with that at all.

Also - Hawthorn is a short kicking team. To get out of trouble they kick 8-10 metres A LOT. The umpire always blows his whistle and considers it as a mark. They do it a lot near their forward line. Have the knowledge- umpires- to call play on. It is endorsing a form of cheating by allowing 10 metre marks. The minimum distance is 15 metres just in case they don't know.

Footy is just a bit too depressing for me right now, gonna give it a break for a while. Still, could be worse. I could be a soccer supporter where nearly every match is decided by penalty goals and the referee's whim.
