Uh ... well ... I was on stage in a Wellington theatre, blissfully unaware of footy, Carlton and decent kebabs

And Jonah Lomu was having a fantastic year [in case anyone was interested]

The tragedy of it all......

Two days before the game a friend's mother died, so I was committed to consoling the poor soul. We ended up watching the game with a few other people and every time I roared with delight at the Carlton goal avalanche I felt like I was breaking wind during the funeral. I wasn't very popular that day, not very popular at all.

Cest la vie.

I missed the game...

I was in a coma with malaria in Malawi at the time.

By the time I came out of hospital it was late October. I went to Harare to recover (probably not my choice these days) and was having a snooze one evening where we were staying when my girlfriend came running into the bedroom to tell me the replay was on tv.

I got so excited watching it I almost ended up back in hospital... :?

top thread.

i was 12 yrs old, glued to the TV, at my folks place back in Batemans Bay.

first year playing and following the footy, after dad took me to two blues games that year (adel and rich). been hooked on footy every since.

i remember watching the game, with mum ironing in the back ground, and was pretty excited to see he son yelling at the telly.

dad is probably the worst supporter i have seen, so he doesn't watch the games, he just does shit down in his shed. knocking up stuff, fixing stuff up around the house, and walking in from time to time, mutter and cursing.

if he did stop and watch for a second there would be a turn over or a free against us and he's storm back out of the room. :)

i remember as soon as the telecast finished i was straight out the front to kick the footy with myself pretending i was Peter Dean.

i also remember being reduced to tears about 11 and half months later as i got score update of the game against the lions, while at my grand dads 70'th brithday celebrations, and him consoling me about it.

then in 99 i remember my fair weather blue mate running for his life after we started going down in the 99 GF, after he said " calm down, it's only a game", and i threw the VCR at him. lol

those were the days

Love Batemans Bay.

I have to agree this is a great post. The '95 season, apart from a two week period, was something special, and the GF win topped it all off perfectly. How time flies.

what a great day that was.

Spend the moring firing up with a few cold beers, then on to the bourban for the game. Watched it with a mate who barracked for the Cats, had to skull after every beer !

plastered by 6, passed out on lawn by 6.30. Being driven around with all Carlton gear on (Jumper, Scarfe, Beanie) and A flag hung out the window by 7.30 !

Then spent sunday watching the game again !

I watched it with a mate and was that engrossed in the game that I only managed to drink two Bourbons for the entire match. I made up for it afterward.

After the disappointment of going to the 93 GF, going to the 95 GF was the best.

Remember getting to the ground about 1:30pm and there was no one around, no crowds outside, thought this was strange, got inside and the crowd were already in.

Got to the seat and there were allot of familiar faces, it was just like sitting in the social club.
I only missed going to 1 game that year (VFL park against the saints, pissing down rain) so I had never seen Carlton lose and knew before hand, this was ours, was never worried about the result.

Had to rush home after the game to go out down to St Kilda for a birthday dinner (he was a Carlton supporter too). I was singing the Navy Blues while everybody else was singing happy birthday.

Finally got back to OO about 11pm and couldn't get into the SC, and while standing outside, somebody taps me on the shoulder and says "Excuse me", it was big Jack..... After that went home and ....... the girlfriend. :-D

I was working that day, but had set up 2 VCRs to record the GF, , so that I got the ch 7 pics, but the Roy and HG commentary (The Festival of the Boot - The search for Satan's Prod buried at the Crossroads).

From 2pm onwards, I would make runs out of the store to check on the score.

Needless to say, That day was a very happy one, even though I was working in a shit store.

Best thing is, my State Manager at the time was a mad Essendon* supporter, and I had previously bet him that not only would we shit it in on the day, but that Diesel would be Norm Smith medallist. I got to give him heaps, especially after the shit he gave me in 93.

Seems so long ago, yet so recent...

Not wrong....

PS: Don't let her see this!

Fortunately, she only hangs around the Talking Stuff board, so any sledging I do here is fairly safe

As you should, great clubman.

Watched the game at home...my Dad's mate Doug who's a Richmond supporter drove down from Yarram to watch the game and supported the Blues all the way for us....great day :-D

Pissweak excuse!
You're not a REAL supporter, are you?

I did'nt decide to go until about 11.00am.
My father in law offered me his MCC membership so I had to accept. 8)

We played a little drinking game where I had to skull a glass of beer after each Geelong goal and he had to skull after each Carlton goal.

Needless to say the lad was a mess before half time.

Two of my mates played the same game at my house. Different substance though. The one on the Blues was trashed big time. Then they somehow managed to go gokarting

It did occur to me later that they could have cut the hospital stay significantly if they'd had a live feed into my room when I was out to it. It either would have roused me from la la land or sent me there permanently I reckon.

Either way it might have freed up a bed. :-D
