Henderson needs to be our top priority.

We need to chase a top line defender to release him forward. I also think White & Jamison can hold down our defence as well. Watson and Mitchell may go but I would give McCarthy another season.

I would put Yarran, Kruezer, Hampson, Laidler, Robinson, Watson on the market to see if we can get anything that can help improve our list.

A key defender and some skilful great ball using mids are the priority.

Can't see us getting much for Laidler or Watson.
Yarran, Kruezer and Robbo wont be going anywhere.
Hampson is about it trade wise.

That was only symptomatic of our 'need' for talls. We really have to understand that needs are transitory. I can't help thinking that our single-mindedness actually prevents us from doing what we set out to do, let alone benefit in spite of ourselves. There is nothing wrong with Henderson in the back-line and possibly having Jack Darling in the forward-line. :sly:  I can live with possibly bombing out on Mitchell and McCarthy.

I actually agree with a 'best available' policy but there are different definitions as to what that is. I still think, however, that most of the problem lies outside of our first round selections. We react too quickly and miss or ignore opportunity. The guts of the draft gives us virtually nothing and that's indefensible. Our preseason draft/rookie record is very good but not exemplary and we rely on it too much.

Just re previous comments on introverts...noticed during MM's (justified) rant re the Garlett goal non-review that he stressed several times that the team was full of guys like Jeff that wouldn't argue for a review. Thought it was interesting.

I personally think we win with those deals.

I think we tend to overrate our blokes a little, I might be on my own on that one as well. We all think the list is good enough to be a top 4 team but it just does not deliver.
We are three weeks away from having to start again.

Talia and a 2nd rounder plus slight upgrade on our first pick, for Gibbs and Jamo?

In the short term it's a backwards step, in the long term it's a likely moderate win. Doesn't appeal to me.

Talia for Jamison would be a huge win.
Picks 4 for Gibbs is win
Pick 14-15 for Pick 20 probably evens it out.

Just a little. I always look forward to the end of year "trade (insert name of unwanted hack) for 2 first rounders" thread

Nah - Keep Gibbs.

He might be under-achieving but he certainly has stepped up a notch since MM came in. Skill is a little inconsistent but I reckon his intention is there more than i've ever seen it!

Him and Murphy can lead the midfield for another 5-6 years. But they need somebody else in there as Lucas isn't showing much at all.
Could Menzel go into the midfield?

Jamo is needed too. But he needs help. I'd be going after a consistent defender as that's what we really need.

He needs help because he's not a consistent defender. So I concur - we need a consistent defender. Jamo would be great on the third tall, but very forward lines have that guy anymore.

What I would like to happen:

I would start playing Watson. He is key. Henderson goes forward and we trade for a Gumbleton or Tarrant etc (better options then what we have). Waite can float around in his last 1 or 2 years.

Trade Warnock or Kreuzer, depending on the better deal and find another talented Mid through FA. We draft the best available key forward with our 1st pick and we have more balance in our team.

Bell and Curnow get upgraded and Cachia gets another year on rookie list.

Davies, Rowe, Joseph, Duigen, Ellard and Casboult get de listed. Casboult gets a crack on the rookie list but Collins, Okeefe and Dale do not.

Our key forwards become Waite, Henderson, a traded in player, our 1st draft pick and Mitchell. Hampson stays (for now) and is another option but more of a back up ruck. I also think we draft a young ruckman at some stage in the draft. Waite and Henderson give us good flexibility.

Our key defenders would be Jamison, Watson, Laidler, McInnes, White, and McCarthy. Henderson as well if needed. Perhaps our trade of Warnock or Kreuzer can include an experienced defender or we can pick up one in FA as well.

Easy to write but making trades and signing free agents is a very difficult task.

I don't think Bell has shown anything to be considered part of a Premiership squad.

Menzel and Graham will start to emerge + more midfield recruits in the coming drafts.

Unless he can demonstrate rapid improvement at AFL level and an ability to be flexible for the team, keep him on the rookie list.

I hope we haven't put a clause in his contract that entitles him to a senior spot next year. That would be poor form again by our List Management group.

Those ones are funny. My favourites are the deadly serious 'package up three turnips who we were going to delist anyway for 100 game player from another club'. Then you get people coming on and arguing that would be unders and we should be given a pick as well.

Why the hell would we want to delist Casboult. :screwy:
That is just insanity.
