I'm off but with one last thought for you then.
It's up to the coach and his merry men to change a culture, right? Trading players out is not the one & only solution.
Dropping the players to the VFL for a standard not followed is a good start. I have not seen MM do this yet! For mine this is setting the standard to be followed by all! Trading the right players in however does set a standard and also having the right leaders is critical. Again are our leaders the right men and if not, why then didn't MM change it?

I think part of the leadership strategy for the team as a whole, is to give them the power to choose their leaders, and the responsibility to make hard decisions to replace their choice's at years end if need be.

How many years have we been doing this and how is it working.
MM had his opportunity to stamp his authority and "culture" if you like but failed at this very task. I like our playing group but most are not leaders. Hence our issues. None stand up and demand to be followed. Same ol same ol leaders under the new coach.
Personally I would have gone for Jamison as the main man but I'm not a premiership coach.

Can't see any sane reason for trading Simpson. The guy has even learnt a new position for the better of the team, played well once adjusted to it and is certaintly not one the blokes taking a backward step when the pressure raises. Just something for you to grand stand about Sailor man and to be honest I've had enough of your sh1t again.....good night.

In terms of salary, you're essentially trading Simmo for Mark LeCras.

"sane" indeed.
Lecras is restricted so he won't come cheap and i think a portion of Simpson's salary is now outside the cap so I seriously doubt it would be a like for like swap in terms of salary. Not sure we should be investing big money in someone like Lecras anyway with Menzel waiting.

If I recall Surrey, Mick wanted Jamo to nominate again for the leadership group. He was his choice as Captain as far as I know.

Where'd you recall that one from! Remember - MM was gun-ho on Nick Duigan....then he made the mistake of selecting him to play against Richmond. To his credit - Nick is performing a good leadership role with the affiliate.

MM mentioned it in a presser, I don't remember what station or if it was before or after Murf was selected.

Words to the effect of " I had hoped Michael Jamison might nominate for skipper" .

Or perhaps words to the effect of 'I had hoped MicHael Jamison might nominate for the leadership group'....?

Maybe MM could explain where in the history of our sport have introverted defenders made good Captains? Because Carlton doesn't need another 'lead by example, not by voice Captain'.

He may have said leadership group.

Maybe he was looking for a Darren Glass type.

Maybe. We don't have one of those at Carlton.

I'm hearing St Kilda are into Hendo, offering him 500K pa for 4 years.

He's been fantastic this year & only going to get better.

I think at this stage Carlton would pay Hendo whatever he wants, within reason. Not worried about him leaving.

Would be the topping off I would need. Doubt it would happen but these days with us anything is possible.

This year was always about a fresh eyes assessing where the list was at, and how much turnover was required to get the right bodies and minds in place who would have the trust of the coach.

I think he'll learn more from the defeats than he will the wins, so (unfortunately) the players have given him a good chance to work it out. I think the changes will be limited only by the ability of the club to replace those who he would like to flick.

that debacle of a draft with Watson et al will be first cab off the rank, and like a few have mentioned here, on a very select group should be considered untouchable. we've all got used to a fairly stable playing group over the last few years, I have a feeling that's going to change dramatically this summer. And so it should.

I hope to god we get a new young coach in (please let's try again for Ling, or maybe Bolton) who is vocal, but we always desperately need an extrovert from a successful club to come in and give some voice along with the example. I'm not sure how Daisy sits on that scale, but at least he knows what's Mick's after and would provide that example.

Knew i'd heard it somewhere. Maybe he didn't say he wanted him, but he certainly thought he might be suitable.

MICHAEL Jamison's leadership credentials are considered as strong as anyone's, but his decision not to stand for the Carlton captaincy was made so he could focus on football and remain injury-free.

In an interview on Monday night on Fox Footy's On the Couch, Blues coach Mick Malthouse said he was surprised the defender had not nominated for the top job, which eventually was bestowed upon star midfielder Marc Murphy.

..i think that you do need to offer a good player to make a trade work out.. ..unfrotunately i don't think we have that much quality [none to spare really], and what we have we need to retain..
