we have beaten the swans, but not the hawks, not for ages.

I would get excited again if we do beat the hawks.
I'd get back real belief in this season for us.

My money is on the little jewish kid in that scenario. :grin:

But I do think we'll go ok in the game.

Real test of character this week. Still think we can win it.

My line up:

B: Simpson Jamison White
HB: Walker Rowe Yarran

Foll: Warnock Judd Murphy
C: Tuohy Curnow Gibbs

HF: Garlett Henderson Armfield
F: Betts Waite Lucas

Int: Casboult Cachia Bell McLean

At Etihad need run, run, run. Sides are playing smaller and are looking to launch attack from defence.

Would like Warnock for Kruezer if fit. Rowe to defence on Hale/Bailey. Jamo on Buddy. Has earned his spot in defence.

Henderson up forward with Waite will give real options.

Yarran needs to settle at HB and work and run. Can go forward if needed. Armfield a defensive role on Mitchell or Hodge.

Tuohy & Gibbs to take turns playing the Scotland role as the +1

Rowe doesn't have the speed or tank to keep up with buddy.

Yep, And the Hawks and Buddy would know know this and would run him ragged deliberately for the first quarter.

Hawthorn are already preparing for life without Buddy, he gets about half the ball directed to him compared to last year.
Roughead is the danger man for us this week.

Agree Warnock should come in, but not sure how those 3 changes make us necessarily quicker?

Hawthorn coming off a bye and games against Melbourne, GWS and Gold Coast.
Been awhile since they've had a tough game.
I reckon we could take them.

Same 22.

They have another 3-4 easy ones before geelong

I always try to be glass 'half full' and I'm not about to change this week!

Reckon we can give them a shove, based on:

- Hawks coming off the bye;
- My faith in Cachia and Curnow to hold their better mids;
- Not many teams win 10 straight - maybe they're due a loss?
- They are not 'unbeatable' - FFS, Tiges got them on an 'off day' last year and won by 72 points!;
- We ran Cats to 16 points at Etihad earlier in the year. Reckon we can be just as competitive against this lot; and
- Our form has been respectable and we had many good players the other night.

I would leave the team unchanged for this week, Lucas as sub. Yarran and Eddie will be better for the run last week. Tom Bell's attack on the ball could be handy this week, but who does he replace? Maybe Robbo?

Sure, we like to shit can the Bomber flower around here, but their form was very solid going into our game the other night. Losing to the Swans at the SCG is no disgrace (they were brilliant v Crows very next game, 77 pt win away @ AAMI) and their prior 29 point defeat of Tigers looks better given what the Tiges did to the WCE in their next game. Their win away v Freo also looking pretty good now, too. They're not flag material, but a fair chance for top 4.

Really looking forward to this game, there's hope!

The first quarter is the key against Hawthorn.

They have only lost one first quarter all season; they still went on to win that game.

In first quarters they are 45.31 for and 15.36 against; a percentage of 239, the best in the comp

Generally they're up by at least three goals at qtr time and the game is pretty much done. Limit them in the first quarter otherwise it's all over.

What's the point of Bell in Robinson out? Bell looked well off the pace against GWS. Robinson's been good most of the year. Bell's no harder at it than Robinson.

(Don't like any of those changes much, but that one really seems odd).

Ring a ding-ding-ding.

Bell in for me. A player who doesn't mind turning his body and giving a good old hip and shoulder (legal of course as he wouldn't lift his feet off the ground). Runs through a pack- not around it.

Toughness is needed against Hawthorn. Not wallflowers. Hawthorn are too tough and streets ahead of Carlton even with Bell in and Bootsma, but players with a bit of grunt and courage are needed. Both fit the bill.

In: Bootsma and Bell
Out:

I think this is a match Hawthorn will want a make a statement in after seeing what the Swans did against Adelaide. They know Sydney are back in town. Forget about Carlton wanting to make a statement - Hawthorn want to make a statement. Hawthorn now have to up the ante to respond. The Swans- what a team. That 2nd quarter against Adelaide was 110% pressure football all the time. Hannebery pick number 30 in the draft. wow ow wee! how on earth?
