Just thought i should be the first to mention too that we've actually beaten someone above us on the ladder.

When was the last time we did that?

Considering our midfield today consisted mostly of Cachia, Judd, Bell, Brock, Armfield and Curnow I think we did fantastic. Murphy played a cameo forward role and with no Eddie and Yaz running through there, combined with our best clearance players (Carrots and Gibbs) not playing, you can see we're starting to get some depth through the middle.

MM said he was going to run players through the middle and that's what he's doing. It's only 8 rounds in and it's a bit hit and miss, but you can already see the general direction he's going in. The development of Bell, Cachia ect. into AFL standard midfielders seems to be progressing nicely.

Surprised not many others picked up on this...

I noticed. Commentators mentioned them on Bell.

I often joke about Big Nick asking Betts for his shorts back.

I think King Kong Bundy lent his to Bell.

Glad someone else thought the same, if Hampson kicked 0.4 people would be questioning him.

Can't play 2 rucks let alone 3.

..Krooz isn't going to be a perm KPF, cos he's more a resting ruck at fwd, instead of taking a bench spot.. .. ..the difference is that Krooz looked more dominate in the marking contests, and he moves.. .hampson is too stagnant in the fwd line, and is only good leading in a straight line at the ball.. ..and even with that, he's often got his timing wrong.. .... ..and was never great below his knee's, but he's looked very unco down low this season..

..out of the 3 rucks, krooz is the only one with some agro to his game.. ..he's the sort of player that needs to be played for what he brings to the team ethos/attitude, as well as his individual game ability..

Wouldn't have a clue what it is to be honest.

He was pansted by McEvoy last week and we got done.
Either way, there's more to playing ruck than just winning hitouts.
He adds nothing around the ground.....hence my one man down comment

thats just my opinion and i'll stick with it until he starts becoming a presence outside of the centre circle.

Warnock is a replica of Harry Madden he will get better and better

Not a great game and should have buried them with efficient shots for goal but a couple of observations

great to see a carlton team with cachia bootsma menzel and bell in it - good to see them being preferred to joseph - nice touch that bell and bootsma kicked goals in first quarter

a good win in a sense given yarran betts gibbs and carrazzo not playing and murphy playing largely as a forward

good to see waite come back and not do something silly

what a great season Jeffy is having

Jamison is also have a fine season restricting shulze to 2 goals and lets face it the ordinary free kick that resulted in his second goal was lamentable - thought Hendo was good also
good to win for murph walker and scotland
I think kreuz and warnock can work - kreuz needs to work on goal kicking -warnock needs to get more involved round the ground and present better forward

Why is it that when teams like the Scum and Collingwood win when they have players out, the media make such a big deal about it, but we had 4 of our 10 best out yesterday and its hardly been mentioned.

P.S. What the hells happened to Kreuzer's kicking for goal ? He used to be such a dead eye d1ck in front of the big sticks in his first few years in the AFL.

Sorry but I disagree. Cachia doesn't bring anything special to the group that Ellard or Curnow doesn't give. I watched him closely today. Works hard etc but isn't clean and is struggling with the lack of space afforded at VFL or SANFL level.

My question is would any of these players at a minimum be challenging for a spot at Geelong? IMO not even close and until we can develop a list to that standard we aren't a threat.

Horlin-Smith's getting a game for them, so those boys probably wouldn't have a problem.

What Cachia (after 3 games) offers over Curnow is that he can actually use the football. What he offers over Ellard is size.
10 tackles yesterday in his third game. Reckon he was in our bests

PA transition from back through corridor was impressive; certainly found us out repeatedly and we need to address.

Hasn't been any change from last year; we lose the ball in our forward line and don't see it again until the opposition kick a point or they kick a goal and it's bounced again in the middle.

Disappointing Laidler can't get in - he was one of the best intercept marks in the game; he would allow Carlton to transition forward to a more open 50.

I agree with those who point out that we are missing key players and that due to this any win is a good win.

I don't get all the negativity on TC this season. I see a lot of progress even so the win/loss should be in the positive by now. MM is right when he says that it is all about the process. If we want a team that is consistently entrenched in the upper echelons of the table we need to find the right structures and be patient for a while.

+1

Thought the addition of Cachia, Bootsma and Bell was great.
Cant wait to see Menzel get a bit more time on the ground.

We are miles ahead of where we were in 2012.

Will take a while for it all to gel.

Another big chance to take the next step this week against Brisbane.

Yep. I'm very comfortable where we are at. The weekend was another step forward. We are developing a solid game style and MM is finding out a lot about our list.

Add Gibbs, Yarran, Carrazzo & Betts to that line up and it looks pretty good.

The key now is developing players 20-40 on our list and getting more skill and depth. Guys like Menzel, Graham, Bootsma, Lucas, McInnes, Buckley, Casboult, Bell need to keep getting games and experience into them as they are the players that will take us to the next level. They will have ups and downs but the sooner we get 30-40 games into them the better.

With possibly 8-10 changes at years end I hope we are building the next great side.

Umpiring was truly inexplicable. I don't know if I understand the rules anymore that's how bad it has become!

I hear you, I have been playing/watching this game for 40 years and sometimes I feel like someone who has never seen the game before, and I am not just talking about Carlton games, they have made the rules so open to interpretation that it is almost impossible to know what is or isn't a free kick these days.

They have [REDACTED] the game with all of the meddling around of the rules and made it far more complicated than it needs to be, the umpiring has been difficult to understand all year.

I'm comfortable - but Mick also has to adhere to 'the process'. Does anyone remember that goal we gave up against Richmond in Round 1 where we took someone off the ground and their direct Richmond opponent scored? Same thing happened yesterday. We took young Menzel off - his opponent Andrew Moore sprinted forward, demanded the ball, kicked the goal. Good teams don't make those mistakes and AFL teams shouldn't be making the same dumb mistakes when they first identified it 8 weeks prior. We've still got a ways to go.

Quite right Dan, I think we all need to lower our expectations this year if we finish in the 8, terrific, if not no big deal.

This season has development written all over it.
