I'm happy for Judd to keep playing on a reduced wage.

I'm just happy for him to keep playing.

The money will sort itself out.

Think his value will increase as the season continues.

Not the dollar amount but the dollar value in question.

At the moment, there's already about 8-10 players out of contract and possibly to probably out the door. I don't think there's enough quality on offer to fast track the departure of the other 2-3 list cloggers saved by an extra year on contract which would be facilitated by Judd calling it stumps at the end of this year.

Would have been more inclined to see him go at the end of last year were his contract up then? (Would have been interesting to see what we would have done list management wise with a Judd sized hole in the salary cap) At this point, I'd keep him on, assuming we're no chance to sign Franklin, and would see pushing Waite out the door a year early a better exercise.

Juddy will play at least another 3 years, injuries permitting.

Talk of his decline has been greatly exaggerated on here. He will get better as the season goes on, and was also in our top 2 players the first 3 rounds.

I think some people see him as a symbol of the failed Ratten years, which is why people seem happy to see the back of him, which I find ridiculous. Its no longer all about Juddy, so no need to worry about a problem we no longer have.

Noone wants Judd to go.
But we do need to get realistic with the cash... and he does need to work harder BOTH ways

But if he does go.. and we get something better with the salary space... so be it... im not complaining!!!... id swap him for Kennedy right now...

And that is the realistic dynamic of footy im afraid....!!!

Would you reverese the swap and give back Judd and Armfield for Kennedy and Masten right now?

What about for Kennedy and Dangerfield or Rioli? We didn't have to take Masten Just because West Coast did.

Whichever way you look at it it should have only been the 2 draft picks for Judd, throwing in Kennedy was just way over the odds.

Unfortunately, that's the way things were done back then, it was over the odds but just the two picks would have been considered unders to West Coast and the 'critics'. 'Market value' was never the same as literal value as far as football was/is concerned. The biggest price to pay wasn't losing Kennedy but losing the impetus to stand on our own two feet and actually build a football side.

Picks 3, 20 and Josh Kennedy for Judd and Pick 45 was a bargain and always will be.

Don't forget Hawthorn got first round picks for Jonothan Hay and Nathan Thompson.

The Judd deal was and still is a good one for both clubs... us marginally in front imo

The fact that we haven't found anyone to replace Kennedy in the past five years is down to club drafting/trading/development incompetence

As for Judd's new contract... he's been very well looked after so far... he needs to give back a little now

Maybe marginally in front today but what has Kennedy achieved in 5 years?

Not much.

Over the 5 years weve had Judd he's been a Charlie winner ,AFL MVP, the face Of the club and a major factor in changing the culture. It's not even close.
Armfield is better than Notte and Masten as well.

Kennedy will be a good player for the next 5, but we didn't need a Kennedy we needed a Judd.
