At some point the standard of what is required must be lifted... we have been doing the bare minimum way too long.

Is this team happy to be drifting or does it want a hard edge???

Judd should just sign a contract... for him it shouldnt be about the dosh..the club has looked after him.... its should be about eternal glory
if he doesnt have his heart in it... he can go to Cramer street....with everybody else who doesnt want to follow high standards

Chase!!!... he had a shocker... but that doesnt mean you cant look interested when we dont have the ball... i have a real problem with that....!!!

Drop Judd.

That will smarten up the whole lot of them.

He just doesnt chase .....

Yeahhhhhh.

yeah MM alluded to this very point in his press conf on sat night, stating that regardless of seniority each player needs to have a defensive mindset and that includes more than just knowing who your opponent is

So Judd will be dropped?

I think you might be reading too much into MM pressed.

Synbads just looking for a new thread hijack vehicle. ;)

I didn't say that he would be dropped, i said that MM alluded to the fact that despite seniority within the team every player is expected to be accountable for their opponent in more ways than just knowing who their opponent is.

All I heard was MM saying specifically in regards to Judd is he loves it when he's near the ball because the opposition become Judd conscious. Typically more than one player goes to him, leaving others free.

All comes down to what message you want to hear I suppose.

I try not confuse Synbad blinkered blatherings with MM measured musings.

Be interesting to see how much we do tag this week.

Armfield to Dangerfield sounds right.

Maybe McLean on Thompson may be an option. Has the engine and body size and Thompson isnt that quick.

I think McLean is too small for Thomson.
I don't recall Brock being successful as a tagger either.

Thomson needs a Bell type body shadowing him and that would be good for Bell to learn where to go and find the ball....then when he tires sub him for speed.

I'd like to see Judd on Thomo.

With regards to Bell, he isn't as unfit as you think.

A half fit Bell can outrun the strong bodied but relatively slow Thomo. Thomo is an inside player. Bell is too but he has a very good engine and can run all day. Everyone puffs after a sprint, and that's what I suspect you saw at the NB's. Did you watch the whole game? His stats looked like he was in the mix more than the other 20 NB players.

Bell is a damn good running machine...look into it.
Now stop starting rumours that he isn't fit, or do you mean he isn't as fit as he was last year?
He did have an interupted preseason, but he wouldn't have got a game if he was underdone in the first place.

I thought he got dropped because of his defensive (or lack of) in the last quarter against the Tiges when his opponent kicked a couple to win it.

Ive seen Bell live a few times this year... including for the Bullants.

Thompson will grind him into dust... forget the 16 beeper he got whenever he got.
At times yesterday he went to parts of the ground where the ball wasnt going to go ust to stay away from the action.

Wasnt good.... the Collingwood game he was gone by half way through the third...

Can't say I read that into his game but he does run out of juice earlier than the ideal.

Certainly has some issues seeing out the whole game and that won't do his chances of a full game at AFL level any good.

Do you honestly think MM wouldn't drop Judd if he thought it was called for?

im not sure about sacred cows but you love a scape goat.

You've been targeting Judd for years, which has made hilarious reading as he's continued to play brilliantly.

I can't wait for him to retire and you say " see I told you he was no good"

I don't think Judd needs to be dropped. If we tighten it right up around the packs ,defend like a team and score on the counter then Judds muscle in the packs will be more than handy. Our gameplan against westcoast was similar to Sydneys last year and similar to a gamestyle opposition play against us in the past. Push back, crowd up space and counter quickly over the back. I think this style helps cover our attack minded players and allows us to play grunt players in tight and free up our faster and better ball users to play as defenders.

What is this meterage measurement Malthouse has been talking about in press conferences (not inviting a stats in presser rant or Ratts rant) ?

It would be interesting to know how it is measured and if its done individually or as team or both. Then it would be interesting to see where Judd sits with such a stat. It seems really important to Malthouse and his plan. If Judds results are terrible id say he would get dropped. I doubt his numbers would be too bad this season as he has been good attacking (assuming metres gained). I have seen him chase a bit also. Not so much against WC.

something to do with the amount of running they do during the game, susepct its a tangible way of measuring who is working hard enough to run back into defensive positions

It's impossible to truly assess a player's performance by watching a tv broadcast.

He did mention about metres for Hurn and Army keeping him to 80 in the first half but he made 300 in the whole game.

No idea Denim.
Is it possible that one has only so many minutes in him?

He looks 30 yet he's only still 21. Plenty of time to get things right before he really explodes.
Whichever way I think we've done pretty well for a rookie selection. Synbad?

I've always found that when I buy a sandwich for lunch, the lady making it really enjoys me asking for the same thing 40 times in the period I'm standing at the counter. Like all walks of life, she appreciates the repetition of the same request ad nauseum, even though asking for the sandwich once would have sufficed.

Enjoy every sandwich.
