The thing that impressed me about the match was actually the aftermatch.Yes,the almost non reaction of coach Mick Malthouse.Shit he is a serious man. This is a guy who is not easily impressed. While Mick no doubt was happy to win it was qqquite visable that he not only expects more but will demand it.I like the fact that Mick doesnt get carried away.He knows it is a long and tough season and there is a heap of work to do before we cut it with the powers of the comp.................as Mick so famously once said "the Ox is slow, but the earth is patient".I remember laughing at the time, but not any more. The guy is here for the long haul, not a few fleating moments of glory.

Woosha not a good loser it appears. His comments later about if they had kicked 20 goals 10 behinds then it would have been a good win. Yeh, well if Carlton had kicked 22 goals 7 behinds then we would have had an even better win. If those stupid umpires 2 years ago had given us a fair go in that final then we would have played in the Prelim final.
Stupid statement by him.

I reckon we were reamed more badly last night than in that final.

Also in the second quarter Kennedy dived straight into Lucas's legs - no free kick. Identical to one Murphy got paid against him a few weeks ago.

If you're going to have a bloody stupid rule at least be consistent with it.

That rule will be wound up as the season goes on and they realise it conflicts with the rules they introduced to protect the head.

You can hardly keep rewarding the Selwoods of this league for initiating contact to their own head and then penalise them for the same action if they happen to hit their opponants legs.

Actually, what am I saying. They can just keep up with the one rule for some, another rule for others policy.

Winning ugly is a helluva lot better than losing honourably.

After watching the replay today, very impressed with our team focused approach. Absolute team effort with blokes playing their roles and working hard for their team mates. Something we haven't done well consistently for a long time.

I wasn't confident at 3 qtr time. Seeing us shut it down and grind away to get the win was great to see.

Getting the job done without the usual suspects having great games also another good sign.

Here's hoping we string a lot of wins together going forward. Would be an absolute waste to lose this week.

It's always great to see our WA boys stick it up the locals too. Jazz, Jeffy, Army etc always get a stiffy playing at Subi

I missed out on getting tickets to this game but I might print out a picture of Yazz and stick it up on my wall at work :-)

Was a good win tonight. It reminded me of our win over Fremantle last year.

Same. Geez we play Subi well.

BT was an absolute flower in that 3rd qtr, as was the umpire who missed Kennedy's throw to Le Cras for a goal.

Warnock was super. He has been labelled soft by many on here but he uses his body properly in ruck contests. Quality ruckman.

Yarran terrific. Recruited to give us mid sized X factor forward & we got it in spades tonight. Keep him there!!

Most pleasing aspect for me was keeping West Coast goalless in the final qtr. Some of our boys (Carrazzo) looked buggered in the last 10 min but we just grinded out the win which will be great for our self belief. Light week on the track this week I would say.

Suck shit to West Coast & their supporters & I hope the WA Blues stick it to them this week
Oh & Kennedy & Masten didn't do much.

Same goose wearing number 4 who pinged Lucas 5 minutes earlier for the same thing.

I don't agree with the thread title. The umpiring was very good last night. I thought they were stiffed a few as were we, but overall - one of the better umpired games I've seen this year.

Am I the only one around here who thought Kade Simpson had a good game?

I thought he was better, did he played in back pocket or HBF tonight?

Simmo obviously still not in top form but I loved some of his desperation when the game was on the line. Really threw himself at the contest a few times. He'll be right. He'll play himself back in to form. A few easier wins with some free outside ball would be great for his confidence

If Simmo plays with that kind of heart.. he will be back in form real soon....

But id keep him in the backline
Agile.. good overhead and a good penetrating kick when in the groove

A liability on the last line when he's not.

You need a BP who can make tackles stick.

He's done some very ordinary things in the first 4 rounds on the last line...dropping plenty of marks, ordinary handballs which dont make the distance, kicks not hitting targets, weak tackling, bad shooting for goal (except that last goal...but that was when he was forward.

He's past his best and has to learn to play within himself. He can't do the things he use to do to break lines. He lost 1/2 a yard last year and seems to have lost another 1/2 yard this year.

I don't think its form...maybe it is a bit (hopefully)...I think he can still play an integral part in our 22...his desire and desperation are Simmoesque, but he needs to play with less risk than he's been use to....IMO.

I would play his as the sub.He Could make an impact late but certainly he no longer can contest for 4 quarters.

Couple of ordinary decisions against us Doc but all in all I thought we got a better go off the umps last night than the previous 3 games. Only 4 frees the difference at the end. I say thats a win for us.

whatever the free kick count was, there were far too many inconsistent decisions, as there always are in Perth. holding the ball/ incorrect disposal was an absolute joke last night. Eagles players were given an eternity to dispose of the ball. and charged into tackles head first. :banghead:

And here I was thinking it was only Tommi who wears a frickin' eye patch. The umpiring was good. And even when it's average, it'll never singularly determine a game of footy. The sooner you accept this - the better you will be.

Then there are the times we get our rub of the green....

i reckon every weekend.. every clubs supporters blog on a bout how they were crucified by umpires.. thats all 18 teams

Probably took 2 or 3 hits but umpiring isnt easy

Whilst Warnock may not be an imposing marking target around the ground, I think he cops it a bit harshly for 'offering nothing more than being a good tap ruckman'. His ability to bend down and get ground level balls, his composure hand balling and kicking (and usually finding a target) makes him valuable enough to hold down No.1 ruck. Many times last night he gathered a ground ball and created his own time and space to dispose of it well. I would be looking to trade out one of Hampson or Kruezer at years end.. Who ever gets the biggest nibble.

I have noticed that Lucas is a bit of a ball watcher and last night was no exception.
He needs to learn to put pressure on the man and go for the ball when its his turn.

I am in no doubt now that we must persevere with this kid because he's showing signs of improvement every week.

I love the speed he has to run out of defense or creating space.

He'll be a beauty by the end of the year at this rate...IMO

Good analysis - agree with all of it, although I'm only hopeful about the last bit!

We'd never trade krueze!
He is yet to show us what he has.
He is practically a 6ft7 hard running tackling mid.
Too valuable unless it was a swap for a star key forward

Good analysis - agree with all of it, although I'm not sure about the ball watching bit. Come to think of it, the pressure bit too. Also, the perseverance, improvement and the speed and run. Also, the creating space bit.
