Lucas finally gets a decent run injury wise and is improving in the seniors but he's one of the first "virtually" dropped each week. On the other hand everyone wants the young players to develop better by playing seniors

Lucas won't be dropped so forget about it.

AJ out will probably be the only change.

Don't know Kenny.

When you have a coach who get's almost the whole side on "clamp duty" and he has a tagger as his sub, I get the feeling that guy's who negate are just as likely to get a game as someone who creates.

If he goes out it might be for another tagger, but I don't think he'd go out for a Bell, Buckley etc. Maybe for a Cachia?

If you where running around in the magoos as an attacking midfielder you would might want to re-invent yourself.

Not sure what the fascination is with Ellard... would rather put games into Bell

This week should see just one change - Betts for Joseph

White, Lucas did enough to persist with... Simmo needs a blinder

AJ might go out and Betts might come in, but I don't think one will be replacing the other.

Ellard has a defensive mindset as well as a higher skill level as a start

Will undo the good work from last night if we drop this game.
Glad its at the MCG, the Crows usually destroy us at Etihad.
Not convinced that Betts will come back this week.
Only change might be;
In Ellard
Out Joseph

I remember Joseph basically won us the game against Adelaide about 2 years ago at Etihad with a tackle very late in the last quarter. Of course we'd coughed up a huge lead before that

I agree. We play far better on bigger grounds.

Based on what we're seeing against the Dogs, we should win comfortably if we play like we did last night.

The important thing is that we dictate the match. Too often the Crows push us around and are allowed to play their game. We need them to chase us.

Lucas does create a lot of discussion and I have shared my views previously.

Seeing him in person last night, he works bloody hard and his running to create an option is a strong point.

His physicality is a clear weakness though. Doesn't really put his body on the line and can't stick a tackle. That was also evident again last night.

Work on that and improve his disposal and he will be a more than handy player.

Don't see him getting dropped unless the cons outweigh the pros on a consistent basis.

Was it deliberate?
Was Goodes hurt?

I'll take any advantage we can get: MCG, Thomson out, Tippet gone, Petrenko flu

Ellard apparently good in the twos today (BOG?)
AJ out, Betts in
then it comes down to Curnow or Ellard for me and then it depends what you want. Ellard better skills and kicks goals, Curnow gets to more contests and provides some mongrel in tight....McLean holds his spot and I think it would be harsh to drop Curnow after last nights game.... So just Betts in for AJ and Curnow gets a chance to cement a spot.

Different types yes.. But there's only 18 on field positions, and as much as I like Lucas's speed, I get he feeling he won't provide a whole lot more in the medium/longer term that you can't get from a Buckley. In hindsight i reckon you could got what he brings (as first round pick) from a 3rd round FS... Still that doesn't mean he won't improve, and nor am I suggesting he's not contributing or that he should not be persisted with..

Lucas is contributing and is improving. Yes, he should be working on the physical side of his game with our strengths coaches/boxing etc, but dropping him should not be a n option. The kid is finally seeing a coach who believes in him. He's feeling good about himself, and as long as he's reflective and willing enough to work on his areas for improvement during the week (and then slowly show some evidence of change on the field), HE STAYS IN!

BR f$%^ed his development badly last year.
He did the same to Andrew Collins. I'm still hopeful Collins comes good. Collins best game last year was against Geel. What does BR do the following week? Make him a sub. What does he do the week after? Drop him. NFI.

What is wrong with keeping the same side and make players in the VFL knock the door down not once but three, four and five times until an opening occurs. Make them really earn the spot and then fight like hell to keep it. I don't understand the continuous revolving door menatlity, just for the sake of changes? And seriously, why would you drop Lucas?
